Alexandre Dantas, o Café, voltou e não voltou às competições de Jiu-Jitsu.

O faixa-preta da Gracie Barra, que no início do século brilhou nos mais diversos campeonatos, faturou mais um troféu no evento que organiza anualmente em Miguel Pereira.

Bateu a saudade, ele vestiu o kimono e venceu o absoluto. Mas ainda não foi suficiente para animá-lo a lutar na temporada 2012.

“Fiz três lutas e ganhei as três por pontos, sem levar nenhuma vantagem. Foi muito bom competir após um longo período parado, a adrenalina de competição é eletrizante”, disse Café ao GRACIEMAG.com, ele que chegou a fazer duas lutas no UFC, em 2000 e 2003, quando perdeu para Yuki Kondo e Gan McGee.

“Continuo treinando de kimono, mas como um eterno hobbie. Não pretendo competir em 2012, hoje meu tempo está muito concorrido – tenho de dar aulas, advogar, terminar meu doutorado em relações internacionais pelo IUPERJ e ainda ser um bom pai e marido”, ensina. “Para ser campeão dos campeões, além da técnica refinada, é preciso se dedicar ‘full time’ à luta”.

A Copa Café 2012 reuniu mais de 200 atletas segundo os organizadores, de academias como a Kioto, Sparta, Gracie Barra Miguel Pereira, Game Fight, Gracie Ipanema, Brasa, Gracie Barra, Kasulo, Gracie Humaitá e Nova União, com lutadores da branca a preta.

Na faixa-azul, o campeão absoluto foi Igor Esteves Pessoa (Gracie Ipanema). Na marrom, o rei do aberto foi Alexandre “Gigante” (Game Fight), e na preta absoluto leve quem levou foi Jean “Buiú” (Gracie Barra Miguel Pereira)/

Alexandre “Café” Dantas returned and didn’t return to competition Jiu-Jitsu.

The Gracie Barra black belt, who early in the century shone bright in numerous different champions, added another trophy to his mantel by winning an annual event held in the town of Miguel Pereira.

He got that itch to don his gi, and he did so and won the absolute. But that still didn’t excite him enough to want to compete in 2012.

“I had three matches and won all three on points, without a single advantage point scored against me. It was really great to compete after having been away for so long; the adrenaline of competition is exhilarating,” Café told GRACIEMAG.com. Dantas has two UFC fights under his belt, losing to Yuki Kondo and Gan McGee in 2000 and 2003, respectively.

“I’m still training in my gi, but as an eternal hobby. I don’t intend to compete in 2012; there days it’s really competitive – I have to teach class, work as a lawyer, finish my doctorate in international relations, and still be a good father and husband,” he says. “To be a champion of champions, besides having refined technique you have to dedicate yourself to it full time.”

Copa Café 2012 gather over 200 athletes, according to the promoters, from academies like Kioto, Sparta, Gracie Barra Miguel Pereira, Game Fight, Gracie Ipanema, Brasa, Gracie Barra, Kasulo, Gracie Humaitá and Nova União, with fighters from white to black belt.

At blue belt, Igor Esteves Pessoa (Gracie Ipanema) won the absolute. At brown, Alexandre “Gigante” (Game Fight) reigned supreme at open weight. And at black belt, Jean “Buiú” (Gracie Barra Miguel Pereira) was the absolute winner.

One of toughest black belts around at the start of the century – and also one of the winningest –, Alexandre “Café” Dantas is back.

He promises to show off his slick Jiu-Jitsu on the coming 12th, when he’ll try his hand both as a promoter and an athlete – disputing at weight and open weight.

The Gracie Barra black belt calls on one and all to attend the Copa Café de Jiu-Jitsu 2010 tournament in Miguel Pereira, Rio de Janeiro, on the coming 12th of December. The Cup has been held annually in the state of Rio since 2004.
