For the second year in a row, GMA member Renato Tavares entered his Team to compete at the Miami Open Intenational.

Like last year, the week before the tournament many of his students from different states and countries came down to train for the Miami Open.

“This year we had a big boost, Vitor Toledo from Atos came and trained with us for 8 days before the big event,” tell us Renato.

Schools from Kentucky, Oklahoma, Kansas, Maryland and couple guys form Panama came to compete and moved the Renato Tavares BJJ Team from 19 to 37 competitors and the results were Awesome!  We came home with 30 medals: 9 Golds, 10 Silvers and 11 Bronzes.

ATTVB’s Melissa Bentley received 1st in white belt last year and this year she fought 6 times and got 1st in her division and 2nd in Absolute.

On the Black Belt light, Renato Tavares won the 3rd title in Miami Open and Triton’s Piet Wilhelm got 3rd which gained more points for the RTBJJ Association.

Aumakua’s Fred Ramie hurt his triceps in the beginning of his first match but he pushed forward and won his first match, after won the semi finals by submission and lost by one point his final match, showed a lot heart.

KCBJJ’s Jason Bircher did his second tournament as a Black Belt and won the Black Belt feather Master and Derby City MMA’s Nicholas Albin got second in Heavy Adult.

This was a great weekend for the association and Renato is already looking forward to 2012:“Now the team is going to take the gi out and train hard the nogi Worlds in California.”

The GMA members kept their routine of triumph at IBJJF tournaments this Saturday, in Miami.

Once again, our academies dominated the teams’ competition.

Rillion Gracie led the Gracie Elite Team at the top of the podium, followed by Romero Cavalcanti’s Alliance and Roberto Cyborg and Pablo Popovitch’s Avengers.

Individualy, our members also had a great Saturday, as the list below shows.

O fim de semana foi rico em bom Jiu-Jitsu na Flórida, por conta do Miami Open 2011, realizado no último sábado. O torneio aberto da IBJJF coroou como bicampeão absoluto Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu, nosso GMA no estado americano.

Por equipes, o professor Rilion Gracie foi quem riu no fim. Sua equipe, a Gracie Elite, beliscou mais uma vez o primeiro lugar, com Alliance em segundo e os Avengers, de Cyborg, em terceiro.

Florida got treated to a weekend rich in Jiu-Jitsu last Saturday, when the Miami Open 2011 rolled into town. The IBJJF open tournament crowned our Florida-based GMA Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu the champion for the second time in a row.

In the team contest, Professor Rilion Gracie would laugh last, though. His Gracie Elite team topped the podium once again, with Alliance in second and Cyborg’s Avengers in third.

The winner of this year’s Rio Open, Ivaniel Oliveira is all set to take on the Miami International Open this coming October 22.

“I’m well prepared for this fight marathon. I’d like to thank Cristian and Ângelo Carioca, Master Cesar Guimarães and Leonardo Ligeirinho for all the support,” says roosterweight known for giving current world champion Bruno Malfacine a run for his money when they meet.

Campeão do Rio Open neste ano, Ivaniel Oliveira parte rumo ao Miami International Open, evento da IBJJF que acontece no dia 22 de outubro.

“Estou bem para essa maratona de lutas. Agradeço aos mestres Cristiano e Ângelo carioca, ao mestre Cesar Guimarães e ao Leonardo ligeirinho por todo o apoio”, comenta o peso galo, que já travou duras batalhas contra o atual campeão mundial Bruno Malfacine.

Last weekend, California State University Dominguez Hills hosted the American Nationals, where some of the most talented competitors in the USA took to the mats for Gi and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu contests and Caio Terra was again crowned absolute champion, in the gi. (Check out the  official IBJJF results here.)

The Jiu-Jitsu road show doesn’t stop there, and next up are the October 1 No-Gi Pan in New York and the London Open in London on the same day. It’s worth remembering that the 1st of October is Helio Gracie’s birthday, so doing some gi-clad combat is a great way to pay tribute to the late Grandmaster.

If you haven’t signed up to compete tomorrow, the next major event on the calendar is the October 22 Miami Open. But you’d better hurry, as tomorrow is the deadline to pay the early-registration, reduced rate.

No último fim de semana, a universidade californiana estadual Dominguez Hills recebeu alguns dos mais talentosos competidores dos EUA para o American Nationals, de kimono e sem kimono, que coroou Caio Terra mais uma vez como campeão absoluto, com kimono. (Confira os resultados oficiais da IBJJF clicando aqui.)

O circo do Jiu-Jitsu não para, e será armado agora em Nova York, no Pan Sem Kimono do dia 1 de outubro, e no mesmo dia em Londres, para o primeiro London Open. Dia 1 de outubro, vale lembrar, é o dia de nascimento de Helio Gracie, então vestir o kimono é uma baita homenagem ao grande mestre.

Se você não se inscreveu para lutar amanhã, a próxima parada é o Miami Open, dia 22 de outubro. Mas é bom agilizar e não dar bobeira, pois como a IBJJF lembra, o prazo para registrar-se com desconto termina neste sábado.

17 de setembro é um dia chave para os atletas que querem participar de algumas das principais competições da IBJJF em solo americano.

Este sábado é o último dia de inscrições para o Nacional Americano de Jiu-Jitsu, que acontece nos dias 24 e 25, na California State University Dominguez Hills, em Carson. Vale lembrar que também é disputado, simultâneamente, o Nacional Sem Kimono. Saiba mais clicando aqui.

E para a galera que se prepara para a temporada de competições sem kimono, é o último dia com desconto para se inscrever no Pan No Gi. A competição será disputada em Nova York, no Nat Holman Gymnasium, no dia 1º de outubro. Para saber mais, clique aqui.

September 17 is a key day for athletes who want to participate in some of the main IBJJF competitions on American soil.

This Saturday is the last day to sign up for the American National Jiu-Jitsu Championship, to take place on the 24th and 25th at California State University Dominguez Hills, in Carson, California. It’s worth noting that the National No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu Tournament takes place simultaneously. Find out more by clicking here.

And for the gang getting ready for the upcoming No-Gi season, the last day to sign up for less for the No-Gi Pan is today. The competition is set to take place in New York at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on October 1. Find out more, here.
