The IBJJF held the 2015 Melboune International Open this weekend, in Australia.

Nova União’s William Dias was the standout with a double gold campaign in the gi, after he won the medium-heavy and the open class divisions.

O faixa-preta Daniel “Jacaré” Almeida conquistou quatro medalhas de ouro no Melbourne Open de Jiu-Jitsu, no último fim de semana, nas disputas com e sem kimono. Confira o que ele aprendeu:

GRACIEMAG: Primeiramente, que lições você aprendeu ao vencer o torneio da IBJJF na Austrália?

DANIEL ALMEIDA: Eu converso muito com meu treinador, o Bruno Bastos, mesmo ele morando nos EUA e eu na Austrália. Eu falo quase todo dia com ele e o mesmo me pediu para jogar um pouco mais na antecipação, para frente sempre, pois o Jiu-Jitsu de hoje em dia está muito ofensivo.

Você não teve oponentes na categoria, mas brilhou no absoluto. Como foram as vitórias sobre o Lucas Santana (Legacy)?

Na disputa sem kimono eu tentei não deixar ele solto por ser mais leve. Tentei chegar na meia-guarda e botar as costas dele no chão, e devagar fazer o velho katagatame, que toda a nossa galera do MMA da Nova União faz. Já de kimono, eu fiz uma posição que aplico há muito tempo, tentando passar a meia guarda e obrigando o meu adversário a virar de quatro apoios. Com isso, faço um estrangulamento cruzado nas costas. Consegui finalizar o Lucas assim. O detalhe do estrangulamento é sempre a primeira pegada, esta tem que estar bem encaixada e a outra apenas vêm para dar mais pressão. Se fizer a primeira pegada bem o resto é mole.

Daniel, outra virtude sua no torneio foram as passagens de guarda. Qual é o detalhe para passar bem?

O quadril é tudo. Acho que meu quadril é muito pesado e isso ajuda um pouco, mas tem que sempre tentar posicionar o quadril no lugar certo e pesar bem. Tento sempre ganhar passo a passo, não perdendo nenhuma pegada, para não dar espaço para o adversário repor a guarda. Lembre-se: o quadril é chave para passar bem.

The second edition of the event in Australia had the day 2 dedicated to Gi competition.

In the Gi competition, the highlights were world champion black belt Michelle Nicolini competing in the female division and winning the lightweight division.

In the male division, Daniel Almeida was the adult lightweight and black belt open class champion.

He faced Lucas Santana in both finals.

In the teams competition, the results were:

The Melbourne No-Gi Open took place this Friday (29) and Saturday (30).

In the No-Gi competition, the highlights were world champion black belt Michelle Nicolini competing in the female division and winning the lightweight division.

The black belt medium-heavyweight Gustavo Campos (Guetho Jiu-Jitsu) was the big name of the Melbourne Open, held this Saturday in Australia.

Guto has undergone two giants in the boomerang land, and was delighted with another absolute gold, as he was European champion in 2010. “If in the weight category I had no fights, in the absolute I was the champion. There were two fights and two submissions. The opponents were a bit heavier than me, the first was 100kg and the second 120!,” Guto commented, before he thanked the support of Thiago Braga and his students who were there. “Atos and Guetho forever!”, celebrated. Guto beat Michael Wilson (Peter de Been) in the absolute finals.

O faixa-preta meio-pesado Gustavo Campos (Guetho Jiu-Jitsu) foi o grande destaque no absoluto do Melbourne Open, realizado neste sábado na Austrália.

Guto passou por dois gigantes na terra do bumerangue, e estava amarradão com mais um ouro absoluto, ele que foi campeão europeu em 2010. “Se na categoria de peso não tive luta, no absoluto em Melbourne fui campeão. Foram duas lutas e duas finalizações. Os adversários eram um pouco mais pesados que eu, o primeiro tinha 100kg e o segundo 120kg!”, comentou Guto, que venceu na final o local Michael Wilson (Peter de Been). O campeão agradeceu ainda o apoio de Thiago Braga e seus alunos por lá. “Atos e Guetho sempre!”, vibrou por fim.
