Joe Warren (12v, 4d) pode até ser o “Homem mais malvado do planeta”, como o apelidam, mas contra o Jiu-Jitsu ninguém pode. Na disputa do cinturão dos galos, o faixa-preta Marcos “Loro” Galvão (17v, 6d, 1e) provou seu valor ontem, no Bellator 135, em Thackerville, Oklahoma, e finalizou o confere no segundo assalto, com uma chave de joelho que fez o malvado berrar.

A disputa foi um reencontro após luta controversa, realizada em 2011, no Bellator 41, quando Warren venceu por decisão dividida. Desta vez, não houve dúvidas sobre quem foi melhor.

Galvão começou sendo quedado no primeiro assalto, mas no segundo, aos 45 segundos, encaixou o golpe que fez Warren gritar de dor. Prontamente, o juiz John McCarthy interrompeu, indicando a vitória do amazonense por desistência verbal.

No coevento da noite, LC Davis fez grande luta com o experiente japonês Hideo Tokoro, e venceu por decisão dividida após troca insana de golpes em pé e boa movimentação no solo. No peso meio-pesado, o ex-UFC Francis Carmont venceu o brasileiro Guilherme Viana por decisão. Guilherme quase virou a luta e pegou o pescoço de Carmont, mas não conseguiu o xeque-mate.

Filho do homem, Ryan Couture (10v, 3d) finalizou rapidamente Dakota Cochrane, no sempre famigerado mata-leão.

Bellator 89 went down in Charlotte, N.C. last night, and the biggest moment in the cage was the bantamweight title fight that capped off the evening.

Nova União teammates Dudu Dantas and Marcos Lôro locked horns with the divisional belt at stake. Showing good movement, Dudu saw the better of the action in the first round, landing jabs and low kicks. In the second round, the Dantas unleashed a high kick that dazed Lôro, before finishing with an uppercut and hammerfists to hang on to his Bellator belt.

Concerned with his friend, Dantas didn’t spend long celebrating before checking to see how Lôro was.

“I’m happy and sad at the same time, but that’s the way our sport goes,” he said following the knockout-win. “I’m the champion and had to defend my title.”

The highlight of the rest of the card was the first round of the middleweight GP. Former TUF contestant Dan Cramer outdid Brian Rogers by unanimous decision and goes through to take on Brett Cooper, who made it past France’s Norman Paraisy with a unanimous decision win of his own.

In the other bracket, Doug Marshall knocked out Sweden’s Andreas Spang, and in the next phase of the GP will take on Sultan Alieve, who beat Mikkel Parlo by unanimous decision.

O Bellator 89 rolou nessa quinta-feira, dia 15 de fevereiro, em Charlotte, nos Estados Unidos, e o grande momento no cercado cinza foi o duelo pelo cinturão do peso-galo. Os companheiros de Nova União Dudu Dantas e Marcos Lôro se digladiaram pelo título. Com boa movimentação, Dudu foi melhor no primeiro assalto, depois de acertar alguns jabs e chutes baixos. Já na segunda etapa, o pupilo de André Pederneiras foi com tudo e soltou um chute alto, que deixou Lôro grogue, na sequência um gancho sacramentou a manutenção da cinta dourada do Bellator.

Preocupado como amigo, Dudu quase nem comemorou e foi verificar como estava Marcos Lôro.”Estou feliz e triste ao mesmo tempo, mas é o nosso esporte. Sou o campeão e tive que defender meu título”, disse emocionado o dono do cinturão.

This Friday in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Dudu Dantas captured the Bellator bantamweight belt while showing the skills that earned him his black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. Facing Zach Makovsky, he landed an omoplata, took back mount, got knee on belly and mounted, following up with a fight-ending arm triangle choke 3:26 minutes into the second round.

O faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Dudu Dantas faturou nesta sexta-feira, em Atlantic City, Estados Unidos, o cinturão dos galos do Bellator. O atleta da Nova União encarou Zach Makovsky e desde o começo do combate usou os chutes para acertar o americano, que contra-atacava com boas quedas. No chão, o brasileiro pôs em prática todas as suas habilidades no Jiu-Jitsu. Aplicou uma chave omoplata, pegou as costas, botou o joelho na barriga e montou, para depois encaixar um katagatame aos 3min26s do segundo round e se tornar o novo campeão da categoria.

Outros brasileiros no Bellator 65 foram Marcos Loro e Luís Betão, que venceram Ed West e Alexis Villa respectivamente, ambos por decisão unânime dos jurados. Com os resultados os brazucas avançaram no GP dos galos.

Nas preliminares, o cearense Ailton Barbosa foi derrotado pelo ex-UFC Kris McCray por decisão dividida e Plínio Cruz foi nocauteado por Duane Bastress no segundo assalto.

Já Daniel Straus venceu Mike Corey por decisão unânime dos jurados e será o adversário de Marlon Sandro, na final do GP dos penas.

Brazilians Marcos “Lôro” Galvão, Luis “Betão” Nogueira, Alexandre Popó Bezerra and Rodrigo “Ratinho” Lima will go up against American Ed West and Travis Marx, Cuba’s Alexis Vila and Japan’s Masakatsu Ueda to find out who will be the next to get a shot at the Bellator bantamweight title, by winning the 135-pound GP. Set to kick off in May, the tournament will pay out 100 big ones, besides a shot at the current champion.

Zach Makovsky is the currently the man to beat, however, 2011 GP winner Dudu Dantas will get his due title fight at a date yet to be determined. Should Dantas win, he will defend his crown against the winner of the upcoming GP.

O Bellator, que vem cheio de gás em 2012, anunciou mais um GP para o próximo ano.

No peso galo, os brasileiros Marcos “Loro” Galvão, Luis “Betão” Nogueira, Alexandre Popó Bezera e Rodrigo “Ratinho” Lima brigam contra os americanos Ed West e Travis Marx, o cubano Alexis Davis e o japonês Masakatsu Ueda pelo título. O torneio está programado para ter inicio em maio, e quem vencer recebe 100 mil verdinhas, além de ter a chance de enfrentar o campeão da categoria.

Atualmente, Zach Makovsky detém o cinturão, mas vai colocá-lo em jogo (ainda sem data marcada) contra Dudu Dantas, que venceu o GP nesta temporada.

In a lively semifinal encounter, Eduardo Dantas, one of the biggest revelations of Brazilian domestic MMA, outdid Ed West this Saturday in Arizona, securing a berth in Bellator’s bantamweight GP final. Dantas made a strong start to the action, landing a knockdown in the opening round, but the American recovered his balance and carried on till the final bell. After the final bell, Dantas was awarded the split decision.

“I couldn’t get my game to flow. I felt like something was holding me back, but my warrior spirit spoke louder,” he said after the fight.

In the other semifinal, Marcos “Lôro” Galvão pushed the pace over the three rounds, forcing Cuba’s Alexis Vila to back pedal the whole time. When the cards came back once time was up, though, Villa was awarded the split decision and spot in the final.

In other action, Travis Wiuff overcame Christian M’Pumbo by unanimous decision, and former UFC fighter Efrain Escudero needed just two minutes to put away Cesar Avila with a guillotine choke.

Now the third Brazilian on Saturday’s card, Ricardo Tirloni, entered his match with Steve Gable determined. After an evenly-matched first round, the Tirloni clinched up against the fencing, got the takedown, mounted, and got back-mount for a second-round rear-naked choke finish.

Em luta movimentada, Eduardo Dantas, uma das grandes revelações do MMA no Brasil, venceu Ed West, neste sábado, no Arizona e carimbou o passaporte à final do GP dos pesos galos do Bellator. Dudu começou melhor e chegou a aplicar um knockdown na primeira parcial, mas o americano se recuperou e equilibrou o duelo. No final, as papeletas decretaram á vitória de Dudu por decisão dividida.

“Não achei meu jogo, senti algo que me deixou preso, mas meu espírito de guerreiro falou mais alto.” disse ao final do combate

Na outra chave, Marcos Loro foi mais contundente nos três rounds, obrigando o cubano Alexis Vila caminhar para trás, mas no anuncio oficial, para surpresa do brasileiro e da platéia, Villa foi declarado vencedor por decisão dividida.

Nas outras lutas da edição 55 o veterano, Travis Wiuff superou Christian M’Pumbu por decisão unânime e o ex-UFC Efrain Escudero só precisou de dois minutos para encaixar uma guilhotina em Cesar Avila e encerrar a peleja.

Já Ricardo Tirloni entrou determinado no cercado cinza e impôs seu jogo contra Steve Gable. Depois de uma primeira etapa equilibrada, o brasileiro encurralou nas grades, derrubou, montou, bateu e pegou as costas para finalizar com uma mata-leão no segundo assalto.

The weekend was a victory-celebration-filled one for team Nova União. Marcos “Lôro” Galvão and Eduardo Dantas won their respective fights at the 51st installment of Bellator this Saturday night, securing berths in the American promotion’s bantamweight GP.

The two will return to the cage on October 22, when “Lôro” will square off with the undeated Alexis Vila and Dudu Dantas takes on Ed West.

Keeping with the theme of dubious judges’ decisions stirred up by Thursday’s under-65-kg division final at the World Pro in Abu Dhabi (read both sides here and here), similar protests arose regarding the Marcos “Lôro” Galvão-Joe Warren superfight at the Bellator 41 show held last night in Yuma, Arizona. The general consensus on message boards and blogs from pundits and fans alike is that the Brazilian won the first two rounds and the third went to the Greco-Roman wrestling world champion – but in the end it was the Team Quest representative whose hand was raised. However, while the 30-year-old veteran from team Nova União says he is outraged at the treatment he received at the hands of the judges, he is also taking the setback as added motivation for his second-coming in the big leagues since exiting Shooto and the WEC two years ago.

“I was robbed!” said the Nova União fighter over the Nextel radio the day after being handed the controversial decision. “I beat him up in rounds one and two. He won the third, but there’s no way he took rounds one and two,” he said, accepting that the fight wasn’t a complete washout to his opponent, before launching into the substance of his complaint.

Lôro is no stranger to decisions, but what he says bugs him about this one is incoherence in the criteria with which the fight was scored: “I won that fight any way you look at it; but if they thought he (Warren) won, then he could only have won on takedowns, because that’s the only thing he managed to do,” he explained. “But in the first round I beat him in everything, especially takedowns. So how could one of them give him all three rounds?” referring to Chuck Wolf’s scorecard, reading 30-27 for Warren. But however indignant the Jiu-Jitsu and MMA teacher at Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro’s New York academy said he was, as soon as his grievances had been voiced, the anger was swiftly turned into cheerful optimism.

“Now I feel even more motivated to train. I know I fought well in that fight; I fought the 145-lb GP champion and should have won. The Bellator guys said I fought well, so now I want to be in the 135-lb GP so I can beat Joe Warren again, but this time I’ll finish him off,” he said, adding, “I said I was going to shock everyone before the fight. Now I’m really going to shock them. I’m going to win it all.”

There was plenty of action on display in the black cage that was stage to the 41st Bellator event, in Yuma, Arizona, this Saturday.

The featherweight GP semifinals featured an all-Brazilian bout between Patrício “Pitbull” Freire and Wilson Reis – a rematch of the 2010 semifinal won by the former via unanimous decision. The fight seemed destined to end in the same fashion when Pitbull launch an onslaught of strikes that put out Reis’s lights 3:29 into the third round. Now Patrício faces Daniel Straus in the GP final, for a grand total of 100 thousand dollars in prize money from the tournament and a shot at current champion Joe Warren’s belt.

“I’m the kind of fighter who likes being complete, I’ll fight in whatever situation they put me in,” said Pitbull.

Ring of Combat champion Marcos “Lôro” Galvão was another Brazilian with a Jiu-Jitsu background in action, facing Bellator featherweight GP champion Joe Warren at a catch-weight fight meant to prepare Warren for an eventual go at the bantaweight GP, too. After three hard-fought rounds, the judges handed the win to the Bellator champion, in what has come to be seen as a controversial decision.
