Melvin Manhoef enfrenta Mamed Khalidov no dia 8 de junho, no KSW 23, que será realizado na Polônia. Este duelo é muito esperado pelos fãs de MMA, que conhecem o estilo agressivo dos dois atletas. Esta será a estreia de Manhoef no evento, mas o peso médio  já passou por organizações como Strikeforce, Dream, One FC, além de campeonatos de kickboxing. Nos quase 18 anos de carreira, o surinameso naturalizado holandês cravou a marca de 25 nocautes em 39 lutas, entre eles, sobre nomes como Mark Hunt, Evangelista Cyborg e Kasushi Sakuraba.

Finalmente Mamed Khalidov e Melvin Manhoef se enfrentarão. Os pesos médios deveriam ter lutado em dezembro de 2012, mas uma lesão na perna esquerda afastou o atleta surinameso naturalizado holandês. Na ocasião ele foi substituído pelo ex-UFC Kendall Grove e o polonês Khalidov finalizou o combate com uma chave de calcanhar no segundo round, aumentando sua sequência invicta de vitórias para seis.

O duelo entre Khalidov e Manhoef é muito esperado pelos fãs de MMA, que conhecem o estilo agressivo dos atletas. O primeiro tem 14 finalizações e 11 nocautes no currículo de 32 lutas, já seu adversário  tem uma das mãos mais pesadas já vistas e levou à lona nomes como Mark Hunt, Evangelista Cyborg e Kasushi Sakuraba.

Melvin tem 36 anos e já passou por eventos como Strikeforce, Dream, One FC, além de campeonatos de kickboxing. Esta será a estreia dele no KSW. O atleta é empresariado pelo brasileiro Jorge Joinha Guimarães e Ed Soares da Black House e eles acreditam que logo o talento estará no UFC.

Europe’s biggest MMA promotion KSW is geared up for another super exciting show on May 21st in Ergo Arena, Gdansk, Poland. The KSW 16 event will feature two world class main event bouts, a sold out crowd of more than fourteen hundred avid MMA fans and spectacular production.

In the most anticipated battle of the night, in his toughest test to date, former five-time World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski will face the true mixed martial arts veteran James Thompson. After 76-second destruction of Eric Butterbean Esch, Pudzianowski took a few months off to better his all-round MMA game. Newly achieved skills combined with his superhuman strength make him a dangerous rival for anyone. However, with 31 fights under his belt the Colossus has seen it all and is not of afraid of his technique nor his size and promises to teach Pudzianowski a lesson. This clash of 120-kilogram monsters guarantees a fireworks.

In the second headlining fight, the best mixed martial artist in Poland and one of the best middleweights in the world Mamed Khalidov will square off against former Olympic silver medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling Matt Lindland. The Polish superstar was beaten only once in his last twenty-two outings. In his last appearance Khalidov made a quick work of UFC veteran James Irvin, when he armbared the much bigger American in the March’s KSW 15 main event. Lindland poses a set of skills the Chechen born Pole hasn’t ever faced in his career. The Team Quest founder’s wrestling and signature ground-and-pound attack will be put against Khalidov’s unorthodox striking and slick submission skills. The KSW ring will determine which of these tactics will secure one of them the victory.

The rest of the KSW 16 fight card is also stacked with intriguing match-ups. Former ISKA and WKN kickboxing Marcin Rozalski will make his second foray into MMA against the fellow striker Vitali Shemetov in the heavyweight scrap. The Pole made his successful debut in March besting Marcin Bartkiewicz via cut stoppage at KSW 16. Now the bar is set much higher, as the Russian fighter dwarfs Rozalski in terms of cage and ring experience. However, the Plock based stand-up specialist embraces the role of the underdog and will look to prove his critics wrong on May 21st.

KSW light heavyweight ace Jan Blachowicz will make a quick return to the ring after his first loss in nearly four years suffered at the hands of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou two months ago. Blachowicz will battle the always tough Toni Valtonen. The Pole will try to avenge his teammate Lukasz Jurkowski’s career ending defeat to the Espoon Kehahait fighter.

The KSW middleweight title eliminator will see Szczecin’s Michal Materla going up against London’s James Zikic. Berserkers Team grappling wiz was supposed to fight for the title in March, but the severe injury suffered by the champion Krzysztof Kulak put the championship bout on hold. Materla is willing to risk his guaranteed shot in order to be the first Polish fighter who beats Zikic in the KSW ring.

Two exciting match-up round up the card. At lightweight, Polish up-and-comer Artur Sowinski will meet German MMA veteran Cengiz Dana, while at light heavyweight fresh, off his victory over highly regarded Marcu Vanttinnen, Slovakian Attila Vegh will fight hard-hitting Grigor Aschugbabjan.

This Thursday in Tokyo, Japan, marked the year’s-end Sengoku event.

In the evening’s main event, the featherweight belt changed hands. Hatsu Hioki defeated Marlon Sandro via unanimous judges’ decision after fight hard-fought rounds.

In other bouts, Taisuke Okuno knocked out Ryo Chonan in the opening round. Now Yuki Sasaki, who recently fought Paulo Filho at Bitetti Combat, was knocked out by Mamed Khalidov.

Na principal luta da noite, o cinturão de penas acabou trocando de mãos. Hatsu Hioki derrotou Marlon Sandro por decisão unânime dos juízes depois de cinco rounds disputados.

Em outros combates, Taisuke Okuno nocauteou Ryo Chonan ainda no round inicial. Já Yuki Sasaki, que lutou recentemente no Bitetti Combat contra Paulo Filho, foi nocauteado por Mamed Khalidov.

A number of the top Polish fighters are confirmed. KSW15 will feature top European middleweight Mamed Khalidov, two-time KSW tournament winner Jan Blachowicz, and KSW middleweight champion Krzysztof Kulak against yet-to-be-announced opponents. Maciej Gorski will battle Finnish standout Niko Puhakka in the KSW 14 lightweight tourney final. The event will also mark the return of Polish MMA veteran Lukasz Jurkowski, who last fought in Poland over a year ago at KSW 11.

“His last fight in front of the Polish audience was almost a year ago. He battled in Japan, where he made a name for himself. On May 7^th he returns to KSW ring to defend his light heavyweight title, which he won knocking out Brazil’s Daniel Acacio. Mamed Khalidov, the best mixed martial artist in Poland, is back.

Ryuta Sakurai, a thirty-year old veteran was today revealed as his KSW 13 opponent. The fighter form the Land of the Rising Sun is one hundred and seventy-eight centimeters tall and weighs eight-four kilograms. He has forty fights under his belt, twenty wins, fifteen defeats and five draws. During his MMA tenure he fought on the biggest MMA stages including the Pride and Deep organizations, in the latter he even held a championship belt.

His wresting skills, in which he has trained since he was a teenager, will be his key factor in the fight against Khalidov. Sakurai also owns some domestic kickboxing titles in his collection, so he might be dangerous in the stand-up. How will this bout unfold. Who will leave the ring victorious. The biggest MMA show in Europe, the thirteenth Martial Arts Confrontation on May 7^th will answer these questions.

In his MMA debut Mariusz Pudzianowski needed only forty-four seconds to dispatch his opponent. His second fight won’t be that easy as his next foe is much more experienced and demanding.

On May 7^th at KSW 13, “World’s Strongest Man” will face Deep Megaton Champion Yusuke Kawaguchi. The Japanese fighter is one hundred and eighty-three centimeters tall, weighs one hundred and ten kilograms and has three years of MMA experience. He is a tough competitor and his ground skills are his biggest asset. He has a background in Judo and had amateur successes in this discipline. He is also not afraid of stand-up exchanges as he hits hard and has a monstrous chin.”

Jorge Santiago não deu bobeira na revanche contra Mamed Khalidov. No combate realizado na última edição do Sengoku, que valia o cinturão de médios, venceu por decisão unânime. 

“Não conhecia o cara da primeira vez e aceitei a luta em cima da hora. Agora sabia muito bem como ele era e treinei como devia. Sabia que era contra um cara duríssimo e treinei mesmo para lutar com ele, muito focado. Ainda mais agora, que o cinturão estava em jogo. Então, tinha que estar 100% e ganhar todos os rounds para não dar chance ao azar. Ele é um lutador muito duro e realmente merecia a chance pelo título. Mas deu tudo certo para mim, graças a Deus”, comenta ao GRACIEMAG.com. 

Sobre o futuro, pode pintar chances em outras organizações. Strikeforce e o novo evento japonês Astra, uma parceria entre Dream e Sengoku, também não são propostas descartáveis. Até o UFC, embora mais difícil, é possível. 

“Tenho o compromisso de defender o cinturão. Alguma luta, além disso, não tenho mais contrato. Então, o que pintar estou disposto. Estão acontecendo algumas negociações, mas não há nada certo. Tenho conversado com grandes eventos e vamos ver o que vai acontecer”, fala. 

“Estou bem no Japão, gosto de lá e o público japonês se amarra na minha. Não tenho planos de sair de lá, mas também gostaria de lutar nos Estados Unidos, que é o país onde moro. Um contrato certo, uma coisa bem conversada, e posso voltar. Basta fechar algo bom. Pode acontecer, mas não é uma coisa da noite para o dia”, continua Santiago, que manda um recado:
