Bicampeão mundial absoluto de Jiu-Jitsu e ex-UFC, Marcio “Pé de Pano” Cruz acertou os próximos passos na carreira.

O professor radicado na Flórida, que tem vitórias sobre Frank Mir e Rafael Feijão no cartel, assinou com o evento russo M-1 Global e está de volta à categoria dos pesos pesados.

“Os patrões já estão avisados que vou lá para tentar buscar o cinturão da categoria”, declarou Pé de Pano, 35 anos, na sua página pessoal no Facebook.

Pé de Pano apareceu pela última vez no Jiu-Jitsu no Mundial de 2012. Depois, Cruz (8v, 3d) lutou pela última vez em novembro, quando venceu Joe Yager por finalização no RFA, com um triângulo invertido.

The fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Pedro Rizzo last Friday in Saint Petersburg provoked two distinct emotions. On Rizzo’s return to Brazil, he was reflexive, wanting to get straight back to training to see if he still has a return to the cage in him, after getting knocked out in 1:24 minutes. Whereas the winner, amid his fans and leader Vladimir Putin, didn’t do too much thinking. Fedor, while still in the M-1 Global ring, announced that he had wrapped up his professional MMA career after 12 years of glory and a sparse few defeats.

What have you learned from Fedor Emelianenko, the monster who went from 2000 to 2010 without losing once? We came up with some of our own.

1. DON’T GIVE THE LOSS A THOUGHT

Fedor was unbeaten in his career up until 2010. One day, he lost to Fabricio Werdum, and to make matters worse he did so tapping out, stuck in a triangle before the eyes of the millions of spectators watching Strikeforce on TV. What did he do? “I immediately went back home after the fight, and carried on living just as I had before. I didn’t think about the loss, since things are as they should be,” he stated.

2. FACE THE BEST

Fedor Emelianenko came to fame at Pride FC during the days of Rodrigo Minotauro, Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Hunt and the other heavyweight beasts featuring on the promotion’s star-studded roster. If you want to be good, train and fight with good fighters. If you want to be the best, face the best, always.

3. DON’T FORGO THE GI

Fedor was already the biggest star of the Pride FC days, known in Japan as “The Emperor,” and even so he still competed at sambo tournaments in Russia. He’d lose every now and again; but he’d learn.

4. HAVE AN OBJECTIVE WHEN FIGHTING

The dazed look in Fedor’s eyes gave no sign of it, but there was a flame burning inside him. It was the desire to fight for something more than just the hefty check he’d be handed afterwards. “MMA is the way I found to represent my country. It’s the way I have to please the fans, the people who cheer for me. And specially, it’s the thing I found I was best at. That’s why I keep doing it,” he said one time.

5. RESPECT

“The best and strongest fighter in the world has to be able to beat all opponents, but that’s not all. He has to respect the other fighters, understand the circumstances of fighting and do a good job of communicating to the fans and the press,” preached Fedor Emelianenko. In these times of Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen, that’s quite a lesson.

6. HAVE FUN, ALWAYS

When he’d attend a Pride FC event just to watch, not to fight, Fedor was always shooting the breeze, swilling vodka and joking around with everybody. Even if you’re the best in the world, never lose your good cheer nor desire to have a good time.

Na sexta-feira, a luta entre Fedor Emelianenko e Pedro Rizzo em São Petersburgo provocou emoções distintas. No Brasil, Rizzo voltou para casa reflexivo, querendo voltar a treinar para sentir se ainda devia retornar aos ringues, após ser nocauteado com socos em 1min24s. Já o vencedor, diante de sua torcida e seu líder Vladimir Putin, não pensou muito. Fedor anunciou, ainda em cima do ringue do M-1 Global, que encerraria a carreira de lutador profissional de MMA após 12 anos de glórias e raras derrotas.

O que você aprendeu com Fedor Emelianenko, o monstro que ficou de 2000 a 2010 sem perder? Nós tiramos algumas lições.

1. Não pense na derrota

Fedor estava invicto na carreira até 2010. Um dia, perdeu para Fabricio Werdum, e ainda por cima batucou, no triângulo, diante de milhões de espectadores do Strikeforce. O que ele fez? “Voltei para casa imediatamente após a luta, e continuei a viver da mesma maneira. Não pensei sobre a derrota pois as coisas são como devem ser”, ele declarou.

2. Enfrente os melhores

Fedor Emelianenko se consagrou no Pride na época de Rodrigo Minotauro, Mirko Cro Cop, Mark Hunt e outros monstros do peso pesado. Se você quer ser bom, treine ou lute com os bons. Se você busca ser o melhor, enfrente os melhores, sempre.

3. Não abandone o pano

Fedor já era o astro maior dos tempos do Pride, cultuado no Japão como imperador, e mesmo assim disputava os maiores torneios de sambo na Rússia. Perdia, de vez em quando, mas aprendia.

4. Tenha um objetivo ao lutar

O olhar perdido de Fedor não dava pistas, mas havia uma chama acesa dentro dele. Era a vontade de brigar por algo a mais que um polpudo cheque no final. “O MMA é a maneira que eu encontrei de representar meu país. É a forma que eu tenho de agradar os fãs, as pessoas que torcem por mim. E especialmente, é aquilo que um dia eu descobri que faço melhor, por isso continuo”, disse certa vez.

5. Respeito

“O melhor e mais forte lutador do mundo deve ser capaz de vencer todos os oponentes, mas não é tudo. Ele precisa respeitar os outros lutadores, entender as circunstâncias da luta e comunicar-se bem com os fãs e a imprensa”, pregava Fedor Emelianenko. Em tempos de Anderson Silva e Chael Sonnen, uma lição e tanto.

6. Divirta-se, sempre

Quando ia ao Pride apenas para assistir, sem lutar, Fedor estava sempre puxando papo, bebericando uma vodca e brincando com todos. Mesmo que você seja o melhor do mundo, não perca nunca o bom humor nem a vontade de se divertir.

Decadente. Acabado. Lutador em fim de carreira. Análises negativas não faltaram para o russo Fedor Emelianenko após três derrotas seguidas, mas o burburinho agora mudou. Após enfileirar Jeff Monson e Satoshi Ishii, hoje Fedor voltou a vencer como o Fedor dos tempos do Pride, no Japão. Muito compenetrado na luta, e com poucos mas potentes socos, o Imperador só precisou de pouco mais de um minuto para acertar um cruzado no ex-UFC Pedro Rizzo, que já desceu grogue, enquanto Fedor e o juiz apostaram corrida para ver quem chegava primeiro.

Washed up. End of career. Retirement bound. There was never a shortage of naysaying when it came to Fedor Emelianenko’s career after he suffered three back-to-back losses, but now the buzz has changed. After going down the line with Jeff Monson and Satoshi Ishii, Fedor got back to winning like the Fedor of old, from the days of Pride FC in Japan. With a fierce few punches, the Emperor needed just over a minute to land a fist to the face of Pedro Rizzo that dropped him groggy to the canvas, as Fedor and the ref raced to see who’d get to him first.

On the coming 21st of June, Pedro Rizzo takes on Fedor Emelianenko under the M-1 Global banner in Saint Petersburg, enemy territory. The 37-year-old from Rio de Janeiro who previously challenged for the UFC heavyweight belt on two occasions, holds a record of 19 wins in 28 career fights.

Now the Russian, who recovered from three-straight losses by knocking out Satoshi Ishii and outpointing Jeff Monson, opted to undergo a spell of intense training in Holland alongside the likes of Peter Teijsse and Ernesto Hoost, among others. Could getting his standup training at the source be the antidote for Pedro Rizzo’s Thai boxing?

Unbeatable for ten years until being finalized by Fabricio Werdum with an armlock inside the triangle, Fedor Emelianenko saw himself defeated in three fights in a row (Antonio Pezão, Dan Henderson) and people said the Russian would retire.

This Sunday, the once Emperor of MMA got back to action against Jeff Monson at Global M-1. With the crowd on his side, Fedor beat Monson during the three rounds, always with good combinations of strikes, overthrowing the American with an uppercut in the second round. With the victory, the Pride legend got his 32^nd victory of his career.
