Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu took tremendous strides forward in its advancement in Mexico and Central America last December at the Abu Dhabi World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship Central American Trials in Leon, Mexico.

The team of Americas Pro Jiu-Jitsu put on a tournament that drew the best that Mexico and Central America had to offer to the spacious Domo de la Feria home of Mexico’s LNBP (National Professional Basketball League) Lechugueros de León.

The day was filled with great matches from notable academies from across Mexico and Central America; Team Renzo Gracie, Team Nova Geração, Team Machado, Team Marra Senki, Team Nova União, Team Top Brother and many others.

Amongst the many excellent matches the day was completed with great matches in the Blue and Purple Belt absolute divisions.

The Blue Belt division was a stacked division and the competition was fierce.  The absolute final was a technical match were the under 74 kilos champ, Julio Cordova Reyes of Top Brother edged out the under 92 kilos silver medalist, Alfonso Aguirre of Exit Mexico by points.

The Purple Belt absolute featured a classic match of David Vs. Goliath when the 92 kilos plus division winner Fabio Vargas went up against Angel Gomez, division winner of the under 74 kilos division.  Both athletes were from Team Top Brother.  Ultimately Goliath prevailed this time around when Vargas won on an advantage.

Central America will be represented by the following athletes who won a fully paid trip to Abu Dhabi to compete in the World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championships in April 2012:

Female White and Blue Belt Absolute Winner – Danae Morin Millan, of Team Brasa

Mens White Belt Absolute Winner – Sergio Verduzco, of Team Carvalho

Mens Blue Belt Absolute Winner – Julio Cordova Reyes, of Team Top Brother

Mens Purple Belt Absolute Winner – Fabio Vargas, of Team Top Brother

GMA member Luis Sergio Correa had a very fruitiful trip to Las Vegas, last weekend.

The leader of Marra Senki Team, in Texas, was specially pleased with one of his pupils.

Black belt Gustavo Carpio won the adult featherweight division of IBJJF’s Las Vegas International Open.

“He did great. The final was a very tough fight,” said Correa.

He sent a picture of Carpio to celebrate the result.
