Luanna Alzuguir cumpriu a rotina dos astros do Jiu-Jitsu para o Europeu, o campeonato da IBJJF que abre a temporada nesta semana, no dia 24, quinta-feira. Primeiro, treinou forte no Brasil. Depois, fez seminários pelo Velho Continente, no caso a Alemanha, para ajudar a popularizar o esporte, fazer um intercâmbio com novos talentos e aumentar os rendimentos, que ninguém é de ferro.

Agora, a campeã mundial de Jiu-Jitsu da Alliance está prontíssima para tentar o peso e o absoluto em Lisboa.

“Toda luta é um grade obstáculo. Já lutei com quase todas as meninas na faixa-preta e o que aprendi foi que cada luta é uma luta totalmente diferente”, frisou. “Meu jogo tem como objetivo avançar sempre na luta, até a finalização. Não gosto de jogo travado, não gosto de lutar com quem se limita após a primeira vantagem. Mas saber competir com esse tipo de oponente também faz parte”, garantiu Luanna, que tem outros desafios para 2013.

“Em 2013 quero competir bastante, a princípio vou lutar o Europeu, o Brasileiro, Pan, Mundial, WPJJC de Abu Dhabi e o ADCC sem kimono. Mas também vou dar uma atenção especial para meus alunos e para os seminários. É difícil conciliar os dois papéis, professora e competidora, mas eis aí nosso grande desafio”, encerrou.

Luanna Alzuguir has completed the routine of the Jiu-Jitsu stars heading into the European Open, a championship marking the beginning of the IBJJF season this Thursday, the 24th. First, she put in grueling training in Brazil. Next, she did a series of seminars on the Old Continent, in her case Germany, to help popularize the sport, exchange notes with incoming talent and ramp up her performance. Now the world champion from Alliance is all set to test herself at weight and open weight in Lisbon.

“Each match is a major obstacle. I’ve faced almost all the black belt girls, and what I’ve learned is that each match is completely different,” she stated. “My objective with my game is to always advance in the match, always toward the finish. I don’t like stalled games. I don’t like facing people who stop at the first advantage point. But knowing how to fight that kind of opponent comes with the territory,” said Luanna, who has other challenges for 2013.

“I plan to compete a lot in 2013. To start, I’ll do the Europeans, the Brazilian Nationals, the Pan, Worlds, Abu Dhabi WPJJC and the ADCC. But I also want to pay special attention to my students and seminars. It’s hard reconciling the roles of teacher and competitor, but that’s the big challenge,” she said in closing.

That’s right, another year has run its course and you’re not getting any younger. But look at the bright side: it’s the start of a new season, and there are plenty of great challenges awaiting you down the road.

In Jiu-Jitsu, the season is a promising one as well, with a number of likely clashes of stalwart grapplers who have but one thing on their minds: to be the best in the world, no matter who gets in their way.

As a tribute to them, to fans and to Jiu-Jitsu, what follows are 13 riveting match-ups on our wish list for 2013—with time limits, without time limits, to the finish or for gold at the Worlds.

The rematch between Rodolfo Vieira and Marcus Bochecha is, of course, one of the most heavily anticipated of 2013. But it’s not unprecedented. How about a clash between former absolute world champions Rodolfo and Roger?

2. Leandro Lo vs. Kron Gracie

The lightweight world champion and the Gracie phenom have crossed paths in the past. And this year they may find themselves across the mat from each other again, at ADCC 2013, which will likely go down in Brazil next November. Can you imagine the silence in the Ibirapuera arena as the crowd waits for Leandro Lo and Kron to step onto the mat and lock horns? Eerie.

3. Caio Terra vs. Robson Moura

Another promising one that could come true at ADCC 2013. Is there any doubt sparks would fly if two of Jiu-Jitsu’s most technical little guys finally collide? Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

4. Léo Nogueira vs. Dean Lister

Part of the ADCC’s awesomeness is that the organizers make unlikely matches between gi-clad mat wizards and MMA aces come true. Another of the GRACIEMAG.com crew’s dream match-ups: heavyweight world champion Leonardo Nogueira versus under-99 kg ADCC champ Dean Lister. Who takes this one?

5. Guilherme Mendes vs. Paulo Miyao

Now sporting brown belts, the Miyao brothers will be heading to Abu Dhabi to show they’ve got what it takes to grapple with black belts on even terms. One of the most intriguing hypothetical match-ups would be between the Miyaos and the Mendeses. Who’s got the deadlier guard? Whose berimbolo packs more razzle-dazzle? The way our team sees it, Gui Mendes and Paulo Miyao would be a sight to behold for anyone intrigued by the study of modern Jiu-Jitsu.

6. Rômulo Barral vs. Keenan Cornelius

Brown belts squaring off with black belts always makes for good viewing. Does the reigning medium-heavyweight world champion, Rômulo Barral, have anything to teach up-and-comer Keenan Cornelius? If we’re lucky, we’ll find out in Abu Dhabi or at the ADCC.

This all-coach showdown is one of the big attractions on tap for ADCC 2013 in Brazil. What have the two monsters of guard passing got in store for each other and the crowd?

8. Bráulio Estima vs. André Galvão

Friends and rivals from way back, André Galvão and Bráulio “Carcará” are the stars of the ADCC marquee supermatch. The winner will go on to face the absolute champion when the 2015 event rolls around. The loser will be stripped of his post as No-Gi king and relegated to competing in the regular divisions. Who wins it? How? Brace yourself for technical fireworks.

9. Xande Ribeiro vs. DJ Jackson

A clash of the old guard and new generation, guard player and passer—truth is, Xande and DJ have what it takes to make a match-up between them a lot more than just that. May 2013 bring this great bout.

10. Rafael Lovato vs. Kayron Gracie

At Metamoris Pro, Lovato put on a categorical performance and stretched Kayron’s arm to its full extent. How would a 2013 rematch between the two play out?

11. Fernando Tererê vs. Clark Gracie

Will Tererê indeed return to top-flight competition in 2013? We’re yearning for him to. And our hope is he’ll do swell against the cream of the current middleweights crop, like Clark Gracie, or Alan Finfou, or Victor Estima. Will we be seeing that trademark hook-sweep back making stalwart black belts take flight on the big stage again?

12. Mackenzie Dern vs. Luanna Alzuguir

Could the newly promoted Gracie Humaitá black belt dethrone Alliance frontrunner Luanna? War looms on the horizon!

13. Ana Carolina Lebre vs. Gabi Garcia

Carol, a mainstay of Gracie Humaitá’s female team, was one of the last ladies who, through great agility and well-oiled technique, managed to overcome the overpowering presence of Gabi Garcia, back when the two were still purple belts. A re-encounter between the two, at black belt, would be a monumental moment for 2013.

Dona de um Jiu-Jitsu também avançado, Luanna Alzuguir participou de um projeto inovador na Virada Digital, evento tecnológico que rolou na última semana em Paraty, no estado do Rio de Janeiro. O intuito da experiência foi captar os movimentos dos lutadores, o que auxilia não apenas nos treinos, mas a compreender a movimentação humana.

A tricampeã mundial virou reportagem do jornal “Folha de São Paulo”, e dividiu suas lições com o grande público, no jornal e em entrevista no evento.

“O Jiu-Jitsu é uma luta baseada em alavancas. Se uma alavanca não está dando certo, muitas vezes o lutador não consegue entender, sozinho, o porquê”, disse Alzuguir. “Ao olharmos na tela, no entanto, é mais fácil ver que o quadril não estava na posição certa na hora de um golpe, por exemplo. E aí é só mudar isso.”

Luanna teve 20 sensores conectados a uma roupa especial importada da Holanda, cujo preço beira os 150 mil reais. Primeiro, os sensores captam os movimentos da atleta, que são enviados em seguida a um computador. Por ali, os profissionais analisam a técnica e o que pode ser melhorado no jogo da atleta.

“O que desejamos é auxiliar a Luanna a vencer as próximas competições. Em seguida, quero expandir o estudo a outros atletas e esportes – em especial outras lutas”, disse a pesquisadora e idealizadora do projeto, Carla Patricia Guimarães.

O conjunto composto por roupa, sensores e transmissor é importado da Holanda.

Alliance’s damsel duo never stops. Following yet another win in 2010, at the World Pro tryouts, Gabi Garcia and Luanna Alzuguir this Monday paid a visit to the team’s social project in Ecuador, headed by our GMA Professor Fernando Soluço. The girls delivered sixty gis paid for by Keiko gi manufacturer and local business people.

“It was very gratifying! It is at a school in a really poor part of Guayaquil, but there’s schooling, activities, and lots of Jiu-Jitsu for the kids. I’m really happy to have participated in such a special moment,” says Gabi.

A dupla feminina da Alliance não para. Depois de mais uma vitória em 2010, na seletiva para o World Pro, Gabi Garcia e Luanna Alzuguir visitaram, nesta segunda-feira,  o projeto social da equipe no Equador, dirigido pelo nosso GMA e professor Fernando Soluço. As meninas fizeram a entrega de 60 kimonos patrocinados pela Keiko e empresários locais. 
 
“Foi muito gratificante! É numa escola em um lugar bem pobre de Guayaquil, mas com ensino para as crianças, atividades e muito Jiu-Jitsu. Estou muito feliz por ter participado desse momento tão especial!”, comenta Gabi.
