Peso médio da GFTeam, Vitor Oliveira jogou na pressão e acumulou vitórias duras no Long Beach BJJ Pro, torneio profissional de Jiu-Jitsu realizado pela IBJJF no último domingo na Califórnia.

A missão do aluno de Julio César começou contra Nathan Mendelsohn, que acabou torcendo o braço ao tentar defender uma queda no início do combate e não conseguiu retornar. Garantido na final, Vitor viu Marcelo “Lapela” Mafra passar por Magid Hage (GB) no outro lado da chave.

Para ficar com o prêmio em dinheiro e a medalha de ouro, o faixa-preta da GFTeam precisava esquecer o passado, já que Mafra o havia vencido ano passado. Mais atento aos botes do rival, Vitor conseguiu pegar as costas e finalizar, para ficar com o prêmio em dinheiro.

O que Vitor aprendeu com a conquista? GRACIEMAG foi descobrir.

GRACIEMAG: O que você fez de diferente para vencer Marcelo Mafra em Long Beach?

VITOR OLIVEIRA: O Marcelo é excelente, trocamos um pouco em pé até o momento em que ele me puxou. O jogo dele encaixa perfeitamente com o meu. Como eu já tinha perdido para ele no ano passado, já entrei ligado! Consegui passar e finalizar com um estrangulamento pelas costas. Procurei passar rápido e não deixar meu braço dando bobeira, como fiz em 2013. Sobre a premiação em dinheiro, acho que estamos chegando cada vez mais perto do ideal. Isso é muito importante para todos os atletas, pois temos muitos gastos com treinamentos e também com competições. Isso só nos valoriza como profissionais.

Você chamou atenção com suas quedas na pirâmide de Long Beach. Como funciona seu treino de quedas?

Olha, eu nem faço muita entrada de queda. Acho que é meio que natural, sempre gostei. Às vezes eu peço uns toques para o meu professor Nick Wollack, na academia aqui em Ohio. Mas fora isso não tenho treinado muito. Também tenho evitado treinar muito por conta de lesões. Sinto que meu ritmo este ano não foi o mesmo.

Como você aprimorou seu jogo de passagens de guarda?

Eu me espelho muito no Rodolfo Vieira. Claro que não aplico as passagens com a mesma perfeição, mas procuro usar as mesmas pegadas que ele. Tenho muito a agradecer ao professor Julio César e ao Rodolfo. Gosto muito de passar a meia-guarda. Uma dica para o leitor: procure fazer repetições com a resistência do seu parceiro, mesmo que seja uma resistência de 50%. Depois de repetir e repetir a técnica, procure aplicar no treino de sparring, só assim você vai desenvolvê-la.

Como funciona sua alimentação para aliar força e gás?

Minha alimentação é feita pelo meu preparador físico JL Holdsworth, que me treina na The Spot Athletics em Ohio. Normalmente como ovos mexidos com tomate e espinafre pela manhã. Tomo ainda vitamina C, aveia e algum complexo vitamínico. Pego muitas dicas da minha namorada, Lora Hallock, sobre alimentação. Comer bem é essencial para o lutador de Jiu-Jitsu.

Faixa-marrom da equipe Marcio Rodrigues, o jovem Lucas “Hulk” Daniel usou seus poderes e técnicas para dominar o meio-pesado e absoluto do Long Beach BJJ Pro, realizado no último fim de semana na Califórnia.

Lucas finalizou cinco lutas entre o peso e o aberto. Na final do absoluto, o atleta natural de Roraima asfixiou Jason High (ATT), peso leve do UFC.

“Na luta contra o Jason consegui usar o crucifixo, fiz a posição do Clark Gracie”, conta o faixa-marrom, que emenda: “Eu já venho de um ritmo forte de competição, desde a Copa Pódio já estava treinando duro. Em seguida venci o absoluto do Sul-Americano da CBJJ e agora fisguei outro ouro no Long Beach BJJ Pro da IBJJF. Não deixei nada me abalar, estou focado”, conta Hulk.

Questionado sobre a faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu, Lucas disse que ainda não tem ideia de quando vai ostentar a nova graduação.

“É um segredo. Também não sei quando posso pegar. Pode ser depois do Europeu ou antes do Mundial, não sei mesmo [risos]. Meus professores vão decidir. Estou ansioso, mas aguardando”, encerra Lucas, um dos mais promissores nomes da nova geração do Jiu-Jitsu.

A IBJJF fechou o calendário de competições de Jiu-Jitsu com o Long Beach BJJ Pro, realizado nesse domingo em Long Beach, na Califórnia. Na primeira edição do torneio, o público saiu saciado depois assistir combates explosivos.

Vitor Oliveira reina entre os médios

Vitor Oliveira foi o campeão no peso médio, após vencer dois combates. Primeiro, o faixa-preta da GFTeam viu o oponente Nathan Mendelsohn (Coalition 95) torcer o braço, ao tentar defender uma queda. Nathan não teve condições de retornar.

Na final, Vitor teve uma excelente apresentação. Para ficar com o ouro e o prêmio em dinheiro, Vitor arrochou o pescoço de Marcelo “Lapela” Mafra (Checkmat), que vinha de vitória sobre Magid Hage (GB).

Lucas Rocha fatura peso pesado

No peso pesado, Lucas Rocha provou seu valor. Em seu primeiro compromisso, Lucas apertou Vinicius Sila (Team Link) e avançou. Na disputa pelo ouro, o aluno de Zé Radiola travou uma guerra com Eliot Kelly (Yeamaso). Depois de empatarem em 4 a 4 nos pontos, Lucas venceu na decisão dos juízes.

Yuri Simões confirma boa fase

Atual campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono no peso e no absoluto, Yuri Simões confirmou a grande fase no Long Beach BJJ Pro. O carioca radicado nos EUA precisou de duas vitórias para fisgar o ouro no pesadíssimo.

No primeiro embate, Yuri fez 8 a 0 em Carlos Faria (Roberto Traven). Na finalíssima, o faixa-preta armou a arapuca e estrangulou o americano James Puopolo (Ribeiro) com um bonito arrocho pelas costas.

Entre as mulheres, quem reinou foi Ana Laura Cordeiro, que venceu o absoluto feminino. A atleta da GB usou a pressão para finalizar Mackenzie Dern (Gracie Humaitá) na kimura.

Vitor Oliveira vs. Marcelo Mafra

It was fast, but thrilling.

The Long Beach BJJ Pro crowned its champions in the black belt division after awesome matches in the Long Beach Pyramid.

Here’s how each division came to be defined.

Male

Featherweight

Teammates Samir Chantre and Osvaldo Moizinho were the only two registered and as the rules prohibited a close out, Chantre advanced to the final to earn the prize and Moizinho placed third.

Middleweight

The most crowded division started out with Marcelo Mafra outscoring Magid Hage IV on the advantages.

Then, a freaky accident after a takedown at the beginning of the match took Nathan Mendelsohn out of commission with a dislocated elbow and granted Vitor Oliveira a spot in the final.

The second semifinal put Mafra against Rodrigo Freitas in another close match, but Mafra was able to finish it ahead, with a 4-2 score.

The gold medal match was short-lived, with Oliveira being able to get Mafra’s back and get a hold of the lapel to finish with a choke.

Heavyweight  

With four athletes registered, Eliot Kelly first faced off with Gabriel Kitober. More aggressive, Kelly got a 4-1 lead on advantages to make it to the final.

The other semifinal was between Lucas Rocha and Vinicius Silva. Lucas controlled the match to get to a kimura lock and win.

The final was a close match with Rocha and Kelly fighting for sweeps. The final score was 4-4 and the referees unanimously decided that Rocha deserved the gold.

Ultra-heavy 

Yuri Simões got his spot in the final with a dominant performance against Carlos Farias. A takedown, a gaurd pass and a knee to the belly built the 8-0 score.

The final was against James Puopolo and Yuri wasted no time to get a ezequiel choke in place to get the tap and take the gold medal home.

Female 

Open Class

The only two women registered to compete were Mackenzie Dern and Ana Laura Cordeiro.

The duo met in the open class final and Dern had her best moment with a foot lock that Cordeiro had to spin to escape.

As the match went on, Cordeiro imposed her game to pass and finish with a kimura lock.

The Long Beach BJJ Pro, last IBJJF championship of 2014, has already formed its squad of athletes. The Professional Jiu-Jitsu tournament will be held next Sunday, December 14 in California.

Besides the beautiful medals, the organization will give prize money of more than $ 30,000.

The troop of black belts that have confirmed their presence in the event includes: Osvaldo Queixinho and Samir Chantre (Brasa) in the featherweight; Rodrigo Freitas (Gracie Barra), Marcelo Mafra (Checkmat), Vitor Oliveira (GFTeam), Magid Hage (GB) and Nathan Mendelsohn (Coalition 95) in the middleweight division; Lucas Rocha (GB), Eliot Kelly (Yemaso) and Gabriel Vieira (GFTeam) at heavyweight.

The ultra heavyweight has Yuri Simões (CTA), James Puopolo (Lovato), Carlos Farias (Roberto Traven) and Gustavo Pires (GB).

Ana Laura Cordeiro (GB) and Mackenzie Dern (Gracie Humaita) are the female stars confirmed.

At brown belt, the new generation comes with Isaac Doederlein (Alliance), Yago Espindola (Gracie Humaita), Luke “Hulk” Daniel (Marcio Rodrigues) and Jonathan Van Buren (Nova União).

You have until this Satirday, Dec. 6, to register for the Long Beach BJJ Pro and also enroll your children to the Kids International.

Both IBJJF events take place next Dec. 14 at the Long beach Pyramid.

The registration period is still open but you need to hurry to secure your spot.

The Long Beach BJJ pro will give prize money to division and open class winners (click here for more info).

It is a open event, but adult black belts need to have at least 20pts in the IBJJF ranking to compete.

All other divisions are open to any competitor.

O último torneio do calendário da IBJJF será especial. O Long Beach BJJ Pro de Jiu-Jitsu vai dar mais de 30 mil dólares em prêmios e grandes nomes da faixa-preta vão entrar nessa guerra, marcada para 14 de dezembro, na Califórnia.

Da faixa-azul até a marrom, adulto e master, os competidores podem se inscrever normalmente. Já na faixa-preta, o lutador precisa ter no mínimo 20 pontos no ranking faixa-preta da IBJJF.

The last tournament of the calendar will be a special one.

The Long Beach BJJ Pro will give out over $30,000 in prizes so you cannot be out of that.

From blue belt to black belt and from adult to master 3, all athletes will have a chance to take some cash home.

The IBJJF wants to remind all athletes that only adult male and female black belts need to meet a pre-qualifying number of points.

Black belts in the adult division will need to have at least 20pts in the IBJJF Ranking to enter the event.

To all other belts and to the master division, entry is open.

The Long Beach Pyramid

The IBJJF is not Santa Claus, but it can also make your christmas merrier.

The Long Beach BJJ Pro is scheduled Dec. 14, and it will award great money prizes for division winners.

Competitors in the adult white, blue, purple and brown belt divisions and all masters divisions do not need to pre-qualify to compete.

Just sign in and you are good to go.

In the adult black belt division, you need to have at least 20 pts in the IBJJF ranking to be able to register.
