Not satisfied with the title she won in the London Open’s featherweight division last weekend, Gabriela Fechter signed up for the absolute in search of another gold medal. After advancing through her bracket, she faced Julia Maele in the final.

A tough Julia didn’t allow Gabi to play freely. However, with a technical, precise progression, Gabi made adjustments until achieving control from the top, with Julia on all fours — a perfect situation for the Checkmat black-belt to attack Julia from the back, eventually choking her.

Não satisfeita com o título conquistado no peso-pena do London Open, realizado no último final de semana, na Inglaterra, Gabriela Fechter se inscreveu e caiu para dentro do absoluto, na busca de mais uma medalha dourada.

Depois de avançar na chave, Gabi encarou Julia Maele na finalíssima em peso aberto. Dura na queda, Julia não deixou que Gabi jogasse com liberdade. Contudo, em progressão técnica e precisa, Gabi foi se arrumando até chegar no controle por cima, com Julia em quatro apoios, situação propícia para que a faixa-preta da Checkmat desse o seu bote nas costas, que eventualmente culminou no estrangulamento.

A temporada 2018/2019 não podia ter começado melhor para a faixa-preta britânica Samantha Cook. Em julho, ela viajou para o Japão para vencer a categoria 70kg derrotando ninguém menos do que Claudia Do Val na final do Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tóquio.

A vitória na primeira etapa da temporada não foi fácil de conseguir, já que Samantha revela que não pode se dedicar exclusivamente ao Jiu-Jitsu: “Eu já tenho mais de 30 e treino apenas no período da noite. Já venci o Abu Dhabi Grand Slam duas vezes competindo contra oponentes muito mais jovens que podem treinar em tempo integral.”

Depois do sucesso inicial em Tóquio, Samantha seguiu ativa na temporada, competindo nos três eventos subsequentes, em Los Angeles, Rio e Abu Dhabi. Em todos eles, porém, Samantha não conseguiu ultrapassar uma oponente poderosa: a brasileira Thamara Silva.

Em três lutas, a britânica não foi capaz de superar a brasileira, sempre em lutas muito parelhas. No mais recente encontro, na final da categoria 70kg em Abu Dhabi, Thamara conseguiu reverter o placar de 0-2 para 4-2 com uma pegada de costas nos últimos segundos. A luta foi considerada uma das mais emocionantes não só do evento, mas da temporada inteira até agora.

O Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Londres será a última chance para Samantha finalmente bater Thamara e voltar ao topo do pódio da categoria até 70kg. Ela comenta sobre como está a cabeça para alcançar um resultado melhor contra a rival brasileira.

“Estou muito bem mentalmente. Eu acredito realmente que a tinha neutralizado na nossa última luta, então agora preciso completar o serviço e vencer.” Samantha também fala sobre se competir em casa aumenta as suas chances: “Com certeza competir em Londres me dá uma força extra. O meu time, meus treinadores e meus amigos vão estar lá me apoiando. Eu estou me sentindo muito confiante apesar de ter perdido as últimas lutas contra ela. Eu consegui fazer um jogo inteligente da ultima vez e quase venci. Agora é hora de fazer tudo certo.”

Referee Herb Dean shared this Monday his views on the most controversial moment of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night London.

In the main event, Anderson Silva hit Michael Bisping with a flying knee to the head at the very last second of the third round.

As Bisping fell to the ground, Silva considered the fight done and went on to celebrate on top of the octagon fence.

Ref Herb Dean, however, saw it different and did not call the knock out, making sure to tell Anderson and his corner that the fight was not over.

Here’s what he said about his decision during an interview with The MMA Hour:  “Well, Silva hit him with the knee and dropped him, and then he walked off and started to celebrate. Bisping had been dropped, but you know, in MMA we don’t stop the match just because someone gets dropped. I saw that when he fell he was not unconscious. He was facing Anderson. Anderson didn’t give him a threat to protect himself from, but — I don’t want to start playing what if, what if he attacked and whatnot — the bottom line is he didn’t attack. The round ended and, because Anderson was celebrating, there was some confusion as to what was going on. But I never had any confusion. I knew that I hadn’t stopped the match and that the match was going to continue.”

Michael Bisping fulfilled this Saturday one of his dreams as a MMA fighter.

He defeated one of his heroes in Anderson Silva, in a thrilling fight in London, England.

“When I was starting and I was only a cocky kid, I used to watch this guy and say “wow”! This guy is one of the best martial artists of all times,” said Bisping after the final result was announced.

Bispining’s unanimous decision victory (3X 48-47) was built with strong performances on the 1st, 2nd and 4th rounds.

Silva, as usual, relied on his elusive style and his showmanship, looking for that one highlight reel strike that would end the fight.

While the Brazilian did that, Bisping started to connect his punches and score points with the judges.

A knockdown on the 2nd was his high point in the fight, but Silva was able to defend it well with his back on the canvas.

The third round was the most controversial, as Silva finally caught a break at the very end of the 5-minute period.

A left hand popped Bisping’s mouth piece out and Silva worked his knees until he landed a powerful strike to the head that threw his opponent to the ground in the same exact moment the bell went off.

Anderson went on to celebrate what he thought was a knock out win, but referee Herb Dean said the fight was not over.

On the fourth round, instead of finishing Bisping, once again Silva stepped back and allowed the Brit to recover and even win the round.

Knowing he was behind, Silva was more active in the 5th and clearly won that one with beautiful punches and strikes, including his trademark straight kick.

After the final bell, the judges decided in favor of Bisping and Silva was not happy.

In Portuguese, he said: “You guys saw what happened. Even when you think you won, they find a way to take it away from you. I thought the mission was completed. It’s like Brazil, total corrupt.”
