O Jiu-Jitsu agitou Londres no primeiro aberto da IBJJF na Inglaterra, como testemunhou a firma Impact Fotos.

With only 10 competitors, his students and of Felipe “Gargamel” Mota (third from the left), the team managed to finish second in the team’s competition of the recent London Open International.

The Jiu-Jitsu professor at City Thong Gym, in Viena, Austria, wrote about the accomplishment: “We won it all! With only 10 guys we came second overall. There were teams with over 100 athletes!”

Orlando himself competed and went home with two medals, out the 20 the team won.

He won the black belt master heavyweight and open class divisions.

The success of the London Open, the first IBJJF event ever held in England, can be gauged by the number of different member nations of the European Union represented on the podium.

Between Italians, Swedes, Poles, French (there was even a Rachel Poirot, sharing her last name with the famous detective), the biggest winner on the day was the giant Michael Wilson (GB Australia/Peter de Been), who overcame Pedro Bessa (Nine Nine) in the absolute black belt final. Alan Vitor (De La Riva) and Mathias Ribeiro rounded out the absolute podium.

Wilson, who is also the current ultraheavyweight champion of Brazil, thus has further motivation to put in a good showing at home, when the Melbourne Open comes around on November 19, in the city near his home town.

O sucesso do London Open, primeiro evento da IBJJF na capital inglesa, pode ser medido pela presença no pódio de competidores de Jiu-Jitsu dos mais diversos cantos da União Europeia.

Entre italianos, suecos, poloneses, franceses (tem até uma Rachel Poirot, sobrenome de detetive famoso), o maior vencedor foi o gigante Michael Wilson (GB Australia/Peter de Been), que venceu Pedro Bessa (Nine Nine) na final do absoluto faixa-preta. Wilson, que é também o atual campeão brasileiro peso pesadíssimo, só ganha ainda mais motivação para fazer bonito em casa, no Melbourne Open que se avizinha, no próximo 19 de novembro.

All black belts must be registered with the IBJJF, with valid IBJJF ID cards;
The other belt groups need not be registered with the IBJJF;
Black belts registering now will be provided IDs valid until December 2012;

The Jiu-Jitsu World Championship, the biggest event of the IBJJF season, is now in the past. However, anyone thinking the governing body’s international calendar is at a standstill couldn’t be more wrong. The events known as Open Championships are picking up steam and won’t let the competitive flame go out in those who like donning the gi for some healthy competition.

The next one coming up, for example, is the Rio International Open from July 21 to 24 in Brazil, an event running concurrently to the traditional International Masters and Seniors.

Outside Brazil and the United States Open tournaments are gaining momentum too. On October 1 and 2, for instance, the London International Open is coming up, as announced by IBJJF kingpin Marcelo Siriema.

The most important city in England, a major cosmopolitan metropolis brimming with culture and among the biggest financial centers on the planet, London is a hotbed for sport too, whether for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games or now for Jiu-Jitsu.

Some of top teams will be there, like our GMAs Gracie Barra London Bridge, led by black belt Eduardo Carriello, and Roger Gracie Academy, run by three-time absolute world champion Roger.

Passou o Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, maior competição da temporada IBJJF. No entanto, engana-se quem pensa que o calendário internacional da entidade acabou. Os chamados eventos Open seguem a todo vapor e não deixam apagar a chama competitiva de quem gosta de vestir o kimono.

O próximo, por exemplo, é o Rio International Open, nos dias 21,22, 23 e 24 de julho, no Brasil, evento que acontece paralelamente ao charmoso Internacional de Masters e Seniors.

E, fora do Brasil e Estados Unidos, os eventos Open seguem ganhando espaço. Em outubro, nos dias 1 e 2, vem com tudo o London International Open, como informa o dirigente Marcelo Siriema.

Capital e cidade mais importante da Inglaterra, uma cidade global, que ferve a cultura e centro financeiro entre os mais importantes do planeta, Londres também respira o esporte, seja por causa da próxima edição dos Jogos Olímpicos, em 2012, e agora com o Jiu-Jitsu.
