André Pederneiras, the president of the Shooto South America promotion, closed out the year with the organization’s twentieth installment in Brazil. And of the six bouts on the card, one featured an inaugural title fight and the other a former UFC fighter.

In the under 52 kg title fight, serving also as the final of the divisional GP, Lincoln Sá took the glory by unanimous decision over Maicon William. Sá started out behind in the first, but got the better of the action in the two rounds that followed. He landed solid takedowns and worked well from the top, mainly form the half guard. Maicon threw caution to the win throughout, always threatening with heel-hook attempts that were snug but well defended, but it wasn’t enough.

Former UFC fighter Antonio Samuray did a good job in the standup department. He landed pain-inducing kicks, concussive knees, and was only in any danger when Amenilson Negão shot for takedowns. But after two rounds of punishment from Samuray, Negão did not return for a third round.

Dudu Dantas was supposed to have defended his bantamweight belt. However, Carlos Betão suffered an injury the week of the fight. So in came Samuel de Sousa, who took the initiative and attacked launched a standup assault that ended when Dantas pulled guard and promptly put an end to the action with an armbar, just twenty seconds into the affair.

Leandro Sete Bala was getting the worst of his altercation with Revellis Barcellos, who was winning by way of repeated takedowns. In the third round, though, Sete Bala managed a takedown of his own, mounted, got back mount and handily ended the action with a rear-naked choke. In other fights, Jefferson connected in the opening seconds with a resounding punch to D’Branco, following up with a takedown, mount and barrage of strikes that ended the bout. Leandro Batata landed powerful strikes in the standup action, with neatly-crafted combinations, that resulted in a possible hand fracture, and carried out repeated takedowns on his way to a unanimous decision win over Edivaldo Oliveira.

André Pederneiras, presidente do Shooto na América do Sul, fechou o ano com a 20ª edição da organização no Brasil. E, nos seis combates da noite, teve direito a disputa de cinturão e ex-atleta do UFC.

Na disputa do cinturão 52kg, que valia também como final do GP da categoria, quem levou a melhor foi Lincoln de Sá, em vitória por decisão unânime sobre Maicon Willian. Sá levou a pior no primeiro round, mas venceu as duas parciais seguintes. Aplicou boas quedas e trabalhou bem por cima, principalmente na meia-guarda. Maicon arriscava a todo instante a chave de calcanhar, mas não foi o suficiente.

Ex-lutador do UFC, Antonio Samuray foi bem na trocação. Acertou bons chutes, joelhadas de encontro e só levou perigo de Amenilson Negão quando quedado. Depois de dois rounds, Samuray viu o adversário desistir no intervalo para a terceira parcial.

Quem deveria defender o cinturão de plumas era Dudu Dantas. No entanto, o adversário Carlos Betão acabou se contundindo na semana do evento. Sendo assim, o substituto foi Samuel de Sousa. Dudu partiu com tudo para cima e puxou para a guarda, de onde encaixou o armlock e finalizou em apenas 20s de luta.

Leandro Sete Bala vinha levando trabalho de Reveilis Barcellos, que aplicava boas quedas. No terceiro assalto, Sete Bala conseguiu quedar, montou e pegou as costas para finalizar com um estrangulamento. Em outras luta, Jeferson acertou um bom soco em Francisco D´Branco para depois derrubar, montar e chegar ao nocaute com socos. Leandro Batata acertou bons golpes na trocação e quedou diversas vezes para garantir a vitória por decisão unânime sobre Edivaldo Oliveira.

Shooto Brazil again served up an evening of exciting bouts, This Sunday at Rio de Janeiro’s Bennett College, much was at stake. Besides defining the two flyweight GP finalists, the event crowned Hernani Perpétuo as the new South American welterweight Shooto champion and Betão as the next challenger to the bantamweight title now held by Eduardo Dantas. Local fans having left the beach a little earlier than they otherwise would proved to be worthwhile.

There was no lack of action in the evening’s main event. Hernani dominated the standup exchanges in his rematch with Junior Killer. With potent kicks to the legs, solid punches and knees, Hernani was at a clear advantage throughout the three-round affair. Killer responded with takedowns and groun-and-pound, but it wasn’t enough. The win went to Hernani via unanimous decision and there was no lack of applause for the fight of the night.

The second-to-last fight featured Carlos Alberto Betão against Átila Lourenço. Átila started out well, but Betão quickly responded landing solid strikes standing. In the second round, the Marcio Cromado student took the fight to the ground and finished with an arm-triangle. Now Betão has Dudu Dantas ahead of him in December, for a bantamweight title fight.

Now, the fighters who made it through to the flyweight GP final were Maicon Willian and Lincoln Sá. First, Maicon beat Pedro Mascote by unanimous decision in a standup-filled affair. In his second of the night, the fighter used his Jiu-Jitsu to good effect in beating Evandro Brilhante. After trying for a choke, he finished with an armbar while still in the first round.

Lincoln Sá used his ground game well, too. First he tapped out Buiú with a kneebar. In his second he submitted André Galo with a rear-naked choke, while stuck to his standing opponent’s back.

Now Maicon and Lincoln will decide who takes the flyweight belt in december, when promoter André Pederneiras will hold a major Shooto event.
