Encerrado no último sábado 8 de setembro, o Campeonato Brasileiro de Equipes da CBJJ foi realizado mais uma vez no Rio de Janeiro, no tradicional Tijuca Tênis Clube, com a participação das mais tradicionais escuderias do Jiu-Jitsu, casos da Gracie Barra, Nova União e GFTeam.

Valente equipe local da Tijuca, a Soul Fighters de nosso professor GMI Leandro “Tatu” Escobar procurou roubar a cena, ao abiscoitar os títulos no adulto marrom/preta peso leve (masculino e feminino), e ao conquistar o terceiro lugar geral por equipes. A GFTeam ficou em primeiro, com a Nova União de vice.

Para Tatu, que desceu do master para liderar seu time no adulto leve de dentro do dojô, uma das principais receitas para o sucesso no torneio foi a amizade e união com talentos de academias quase irmãs.

“Todos que lutaram pela Soul Fighters são amigos que treinam na minha academia frequentemente”, comentou Tatu com o GRACIEMAG.com. “O Márcio Rodrigues, pai e treinador de Ygor e Yago, é muito meu amigo e aprecia esse espaço para eles lutarem ao meu lado nesse torneio. O Alexandre Vieira da BTT é a mesma coisa, está sempre por aqui, e o Daniel Junior treina sempre que está no Brasil, no resto do ano fica com os irmãos Mendes, na AOJ. São reforços indispensáveis, precisamos sempre de alguém para fechar o número do time ou para deixar a equipe mais competitiva, aí recorremos aos amigos. Este ano deu certo, mas independente do torneio, estamos sempre somando forças, treinando juntos. Só convido e aceito quem é próximo, não envolvo ninguém que não tenha alguma parceria conosco.”

Para lutar pela Soul Fighters, de atletas como Eduardo Carvalho e Rodrigo Martins, os “convidados” Daniel Junior (Atos), Alexandre Vieira (BTT), Ygor Rodrigues (Márcio Rodrigues) e Yago Rodrigues (Márcio Rodrigues) fizeram até carteirinha da academia de Tatu, num sinal de que o intercâmbio no Jiu-Jitsu esportivo só faz crescer, bem diferente dos tempos de bairrismo e rivalidades tribais.

De acordo com Alexandre Vieira, aluno de Murilo Bustamante na BTT, sua participação teve total apoio de seu professor, e acabou sendo uma experiência inesquecível:

“Como eu sabia que a BTT não entraria com uma equipe eu tratei de reforçar o time do Tatu”, disse Alexandre. “O Murilo me deixou muito à vontade nessa situação, e eu inclusive já estou inscrito para lutar neste fim de semana em São Paulo pela BTT. Menor problema. E foi a primeira vez que pude lutar o Brasileiro de Equipes, de tanta tradição. É bem diferente lutar numa disputa coletiva, pela galera, e ao mesmo tempo muito maneiro ter essa energia, tanta gente torcendo por você.”

Next Saturday isn’t just UFC day. Jiu-Jitsu fans have the CBJJ’s Southern Brazilian to look forward to.

The tournament will be held until Sunday at the Complexo Esportivo Rozendo Vasconcelos Lima, in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state.

Among the fighters signed up are Leandro Escobar (light feather), Isaque Paiva e Erick Raposo (feather), Jacob Mackenzie e Vinicius Corrales (middleweight), Rodrigo Fajardo e Pedro Mello (medium heavy), Alexandro Ceconi e Hugo Britto (heavyweight).

Sábado não é dia apenas de UFC. Os fãs de Jiu-Jitsu têm, no dia 6  julho, o Sul-Brasileiro da CBJJ para ficar de olho.

O torneio será no Complexo Esportivo Rozendo Vasconcelos Lima, em Florianópolis, estado de Santa Catarina.

Brown belt absolute world champion, João Gabriel Rocha received his black belt in the beginning of the year, during the Heavyweight Grand Prix of Copa Pódio. Now the ace of Soul Fighters prepares to make his debut at the maximum degree, in the WPJJC Abu Dhabi, on April 13 and 14.

Leandro Escobar’s pupil talked to GracieMag.com about his training and the expectation to fight among big names in the desert of the Emirates. Check this out.

GracieMag: How do you feel about debuting in Abu Dhabi?

JOÃO GABRIEL: I’m excited. After all, it will be my first time fighting in Abu Dhabi and also my first tournament as a black belt. It will be fun.

What has changed in your training?

The main change has been the pace, which is a mile per minute thanks to coach Andre Nobrega. My Jiu-Jitsu training is in the hands of Leandro Escobar. I workout in the morning and train in the afternoon and in the evening – an average of six hours of training a day.

What do you expect to find in the black belt division?

In the black belt division, there’s nowhere to run. So I especially trained how to escape from tricky situations like with the guy passing my guard or on my back. Jiu-Jitsu is trying to get comfortable in all situations, and that’s what I try to do. I’ve got a lot of guts and will to win my place. I want to do everything I did at the other belts and now is the time to show my worth and I will fight hard for it. I do not promise titles, but I can promise a lot of willingness to win. Now is the time when the child cries and the mother doesn’t hear (laughs).

What does it take to be a good black belt?

Focusing on what you do, and a lot of love, too. If you have those two things, you get where you want, both in Jiu-Jitsu and in life.

Atual campeão mundial absoluto marrom, João Gabriel Rocha recebeu a faixa-preta no início do ano, durante o GP dos Pesados da Copa Pódio. Agora, a fera da Soul Fighters se prepara fazer sua estreia na graduação máxima, no WPJJC de Abu Dhabi, dias 13 e 14 de abril.

O pupilo de Leandro Escobar, o Tatu, conversou com GracieMag sobre seus treinos e a expectativa para lutar entre as feras no deserto dos Emirados. Confira.

GracieMag: Como se sente para a estreia em Abu Dhabi?

JOÃO GABRIEL: Estou animado, afinal será minha primeira vez lutando em Abu Dhabi e também meu primeiro campeonato de faixa-preta. Vai ser divertido.

O que mudou nos seus treinos?

A principal mudança tem sido o gás, que está a mil por hora graças ao preparador físico André Nóbrega. Meu treino de Jiu-Jitsu está nas mãos do Leandro Escobar. Faço preparação física de manhã, treino de tarde e de noite – deve dar uma média de seis horas de treino por dia.

O que espera encontrar pela frente na faixa-preta?

Na faixa-preta não tem para onde correr. Por isso treinei em especial como escapar de situações complicadas. Por exemplo, com o cara de guarda passada ou nas minhas costas. Jiu-Jitsu é tentar ficar confortável em todas as situações, e é isso o que procuro fazer. Estou com muita garra e vontade de conquistar meu espaço. Quero fazer tudo o que fiz nas outras faixas, agora é a hora de mostrar meu valor e vou lutar muito para isso. Não prometo títulos, mas posso prometer muita disposição para ganhar. Agora é a hora em que o filho chora e a mãe não ouve (risos).

O que é preciso para se tornar um bom faixa-preta?

Ter foco no que você faz, e muito amor também. Se você tiver essas duas coisas, você chega aonde você quiser, tanto no Jiu-Jitsu como na vida.

Se para você o sábado é dia de folga, para os craques do Jiu-Jitsu, especialmente os do Rio, hoje é dia de suar o kimono para conquistar a passagem aérea para o WPJJC de Abu Dhabi.

A seletiva do Rio de Janeiro ocorre no ginásio do Caio Martins, em Niterói, hoje e domingo. Neste sábado, já serão definidos os lutadores até as quartas-de-final. Domingo a briga esquenta até as finais.

Feras da arte suave como Rodolfo Vieira, Theodoro Canal, Antonio Braga Neto e Alan Finfou estão inscritos na briga para ir aos Emirados. Já o faixa-marrom Paulo Miyao, já classificado em outra seletiva no Brasil, quer lutar para se testar.

Confira, a seguir, nossos principais candidatos ao título, na faixa-marrom e preta. O campeonato em Niterói deverá começar com as lutas infantis, a partir de 10h da manhã.

Brown belt absolute world champion João Gabriel is the only brown belt on the lineup for the Copa Pódio Heavyweight Grand Prix, coming up January 13, 2013. The card has shaped up to be a real doozy, with the likes of Xande Ribeiro, Lucio Lagarto, Léo Nogueira and Rodolfo Vieira all in the mix. The eight-fighter roster is divided into two groups—the green team and the yellow team—for the qualifying phase of the event. The group draw will take place November 24 in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina State, Brazil.

João Gabriel has also qualified to compete at the April WPJJC in Abu Dhabi, having earned his ticket at the Natal, Brazil, tryouts for the event. The Leandro “Tatu” Escobar student spoke with GRACIEMAG.com, revealing how he is training for his coming challenges.

“I’m training hard. My training camp was put together by my teacher, Tatu. Augusto Tanquinho, who will also be competing at Copa Pódio, and Rafael Formiga are coming down to train with us. Beyond that, I’m doing a lot of wrestling with my brother Pedro Rocha, and judo with the black belt Juliano Leon,” he revealed.

Of the black belts in the Heavyweight GP, Rodolfo Vieira is one who João Gabriel has already faced, and from whom he has derived lessons from their encounters.

“Not too many people know it, but I’ve already faced Rodolfo Vieira before. We fought at the Abu Dhabis tryouts in 2010. I was a purple belt, and he was a black belt. He took it easy on me in that match (laughs). The other two times were at tryouts as well, last year. The last time, I realized I still had a lot of training to do to reach his level, and I still do. That’s why this will be a great opportunity to test myself. To me Rodolfo’s the world number one, and it’ll be an honor to face him again.”

So what kind of attitude does a brown belt need to have to face black belts? Do you need to be cautious, or do you just go all out?

“I respect all of them but I’m going out there to do my job. I’ve been training a lot to be prepared to fight at the same level they do,” said the ever more mature João.

A thick-skinned brown belt, João speaks positively about the new crop of talent showing up in his belt group, like Keenan Cornelius, Jackson Sousa, Felipe Preguiça, Paulo Miyao, Wilbur Leonard, Rodrigo Aquiles and others.

“The new talent showing up on the scene is really great. And they’re getting more and more attention from the media. All you need to do is take a look at championships like the Abu Dhabi WPJJC, where a number of brown belts have beat black belts,” he reminds us.

Faixa-marrom campeão mundial absoluto, João Gabriel é o único faixa-marrom presente no GP dos Pesos Pesados da Copa Pódio, marcado para 13 de janeiro de 2013. O card está pegando fogo, com feras como Xande Ribeiro, Lucio Lagarto, Léo Nogueira e Rodolfo Vieira. Os oito lutadores serão dividios em dois grupos, verde e amarelo, para a fase classificatória do evento. O sorteio dos grupos será realizado em evento em Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, no dia 24 de novembro.

João Gabriel também está classificado para lutar em Abu Dhabi, no WPJJC de abril, após conseguir a passagem grátis em Natal, e por isso não quis saber de férias. O pupilo de Leandro Escobar, o Tatu, conversou com o GRACIEMAG.com como andam os treinos.

“Estou treinando forte. O camp está sendo montado pelo meu professor, o Tatu. O Augusto Tanquinho, que também vai participar da Copa Pódio, está vindo junto com o Rafael Formiga para treinar com a gente. Fora isso, estou treinando muito wrestling com meu irmão Pedro Rocha, e judô com o faixa-preta Juliano Leon”, conta ele.

Dos faixas-pretas escalados para o GP dos Pesados, Rodolfo Vieira é um dos que João Gabriel já encarou, e tirou muitas lições dos confrontos.

“Pouca gente sabe, mas já foram três combates meus contra Rodolfo Vieira. Lutamos em 2010 numa seletiva para Abu Dhabi, eu era faixa-roxa e ele já era faixa-preta, e ele me aliviou muito nessa luta (risos). As outras duas foram também numa seletiva, no ano passado. Da última vez, percebi que ainda precisava treinar muito para chegar ao nível dele, e ainda preciso. Por isso esta agora será uma boa oportunidade de me testar. Para mim, o Rodolfo é o número um do mundo e será uma honra lutar com ele novamente”.

E qual a atitude que um faixa-marrom precisa ter contra os faixas-pretas? Cautela ou cair para dentro?

“Respeito todos eles, mas vou para fazer meu trabalho. Venho treinando muito para estar preparado para tentar lutar no mesmo nível que eles”, diz João, cada vez mais maduro.

Cascudo na faixa-marrom, João vê com bons olhos a nova safra de talentos que está surgindo na sua divisão, como Keenan Cornelius, Jackson Sousa, Felipe Preguiça, Paulo Miyao, Wilbur Leonard, Rodrigo Aquiles e tantos outros.

“Os novos talentos que estão surgindo são muito bons. E cada vez estão ganhando mais visibilidade da mídia. Basta vermos nas competições como o WPJJC em Abu Dhabi, onde vários faixas-marrons já ganharam de faixas-pretas”, lembrou.

O GRACIEMAG.com esteve na filial da equipe Soul Fighters, na Academia Delfim, Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, e acompanhou um treino comandado por Leandro Escobar, o Tatu, com diversas feras da elite do pano.

Entre os atletas estava o faixa-marrom campeão mundial João Gabriel Rocha, que aproveitou para ensinar uma de suas especialidades: a raspagem da guarda-X.

O domingo foi de muitas disputas no Rio de Janeiro com O Troféu Rio de Jiu-Jitsu e os faixas-pretas estiveram em ação. Renan Vital, por exemplo, ficou com a passagem sorteada para o Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu 2011, na Califórnia, e a Soul Fighters garantiu o primeiro lugar entre as equipes.

De volta aos dojôs depois de uma contusão no joelho, como o GRACIEMAG.com noticiou, Raphael Abi Rihan (Carlson Gracie) lutou entre os masters. O faixa-preta fez bonito e venceu na categoria meio-pesado e no absoluto. Na divisão aberta, bateu André Marola na final.

“Foi muito bacana e emocionante voltar a lutar, com toda a torcida. No peso finalizei com um armlock e depois com um estrangulamento para fechar com o meu companheiro Gustavo Granha. No absoluto, numa chave de três, primeiro venci André Marola (Nova União) no 0 a 0, numa luta muito dura. Ele bateu o adversário dele, então nos reencontramos na final. Novamente foi uma luta dura e consegui uma queda no último minuto. Foi uma grande honra lutar com o Marola, um dos ícones do Jiu-Jitsu”, comenta Abi.

Mas a festa seguiu na faixa-preta adulto. No absoluto, o melhor foi Marcio Romão (Soul Fighters). No pesado, o melhor foi o atleta da Gordo-Evolve Renan Vital. Luiz Fernando Pimpolho (Nova União) faturou o ouro no meio-pesado, Maximiliano Campos (CheckMat) foi o melhor no pena, enquanto Leandro Escobar “Tatu” (Soul Fighters) subiu no alto do pódio no pluma.

Na faixa-marrom, mandou bem a dupla da GFTeam José Carlos e Marcus Vinícius “Morcego”. O primeiro venceu no médio e o segundo no leve. Depois, fecharam no absoluto. Osvaldo Augusto “Queixinho” (Soul Fighters) também foi bem, vencedor no peso pena.

Na faixa-roxa, Kaue Damasceno (Nova União) venceu no peso pesado e absoluto. Na azul o ouro absoluto foi para Peixinho (Nova União).

Como esta era a última etapa do ranking FJJD-Rio, foram definidos também os vencedores das passagens para os eventos da IBJJF. José Carlos “Polenguinho” (Nova União) vai ao Europeu de Jiu-Jitsu, já que foi o atleta com maior pontuação entre os da faixa-azul e roxa. Entre os atletas da marrom e preta, ainda vai ser divulgado o vencedor.

As próximas competições da entidade, no dia 28 de novembro, vão ser o Estadual Sem Kimono e o Festival Infantil, esta para atletas do pré-mirim ao juvenil.

Sunday in Rio de Janeiro offered up plenty of Jiu-Jitsu black belt action with the Troféu Rio de Jiu-Jitsu tournament. Renan Vital, for example, won the ticket to the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in California that was raffled off, and Soul Fighters took top spot in the team dispute.

Back on the mats after suffering a serious knee injury, Raphael Abi-Rihan (Carlson Gracie) ventured into the masters division. The black belt put on a show and won the medium heavyweight and absolute divisions. He overcame André Marola in the open class final.

“It was awesome and exciting to compete again, with the whole crowd that was there. At weight I first won by armbar and the with a choke to shut out the bracket with my teammate Gustavo Granha. In the absolute, in a bracket of three, first I beat André Marola (Nova União) in a tough 0-0 match. He beat his opponent, so we met again in the final. Again it was a tough match and I managed a throw in the last minute. It was a great honor to fight Marola, one of Jiu-Jitsu’s icons,” remarks Abi.

But the party continued with the black belt adult division. In the absolute, Marcio Romão (Soul Fighters) came out the winner. At heavyweight, Gordo-Evolve rep Renan Vital was the winner. Luiz Fernando “Pimpolho” (Nova União took gold at medium heavyweight, while José Varella (GFTeam) and Leandro “Tatu” Escobar (Soul Fighters) won at featherweight and light featherweight, respectively.

At brown belt, GFTeam duo José Carlos and Marcus Vinícius “Morcego” had a great showing. The former won the middleweight division and the latter, the lightweight. Then, the two shut out the absolute. Osvaldo Augusto “Queixinho” (Soul Fighters) did well for himself in winning the featherweight contest.

At purple belt, Kauê Damasceno (Nova União) won the heavyweight and open weight divisions. At blue, absolute gold went to Peixinho (Nova União).

As this was the final leg in the FJJD-Rio ranking, the winners of the tickets to the IBJJF events were determined. José Carlos “Polenguinho” (Nova União) will go to the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship, as he scored the greatest number of points of the blue and purple belts. Of the brown and black belts, the winner has yet to be announced.

The organization’s next competition is set for November 28, when the No-Gi State Championship and Kids Festival, for child and juvenile competitors, will take place.
