At the 2012 No-Gi Pan last Saturday in New York, Pablo Popovitch reigned supreme in the open weight black belt division, but at weight he had the brakes put on him by dark horse Ezra Lenon of ATT in the semifinal.

In their encounter, Lenon was training by four to one on advantage points when he managed to take a 2-0 lead with a sweep. Erza was only kept from winning by Gracie Barra’s Kleber Buiú in the final.

No Pan Sem Kimono 2012, realizado sábado em Nova York, Pablo Popovitch conquistou o aberto da faixa-preta, mas no peso foi parado na semifinal pela surpresa Ezra Lenon (ATT).

No confere, Lennon vinha perdendo por quatro a um nas vantagens, quando conseguiu raspar, marcando 2 a 0 no placar. Na final, Ezra acabaria superado pelo campeão Kleber Buiú (Gracie Barra).

Lucas Lepri was one of the famed Jiu-Jitsu fighters who came up big at the No-Gi Pan last Saturday in New York. The Jiu-Jitsu professor for team Alliance won the lightweight division and only didn’t win the absolute because of two advantages he dropped to Pablo Popovitch in the final.

In the lightweight gold dispute he outpointed Renan Borges of BTT by 8 to 0, scoring with two guard passes and a knee-on-belly.

Lucas Lepri foi um dos nomes que brilharam no Pan de Jiu-Jitsu Sem Kimono, realizado no último sábado em Nova York. O professor da Alliance venceu o peso leve e só foi parado na final do aberto pelo campeão Pablo Popovitch, por duas vantagens.

Na disputa do ouro dos leves, ele superou Renan Borges (BTT) por 8 a 0. Foram duas passagens de guarda e um joelho na barriga.

For the first time fighting in Brazil, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Igor Gracie didn’t give Peru’s Richard Palomino an inch of wiggle room during their encounter at Duelo de Titãs last Saturday in the Brazilian town of Cuiabá. The Gracie living in New York needed just 44 seconds to take his pray down and sink an unanswered arm-and-neck choke, earning him the promotional welterweight belt.

The event also marked the MMA debut of Gracie Barra instructor Kléber Buiú, as well as the return of the King of the Guillotine Alexandre Pequeno, a former World Shooto champion.

Lutando pela primeira vez no Brasil, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Igor Gracie não deixou o peruano Richard Palomino nem se mexer no cercado do evento Duelo de Titãs, no último sábado, em Cuiabá. O professor radicado em NY só precisou de 44s para derrubar e encaixar uma variação do katagatame inapelável. Com o resultado, Igor faturou o cinturão da categoria 77kg do evento.

O evento marcou ainda pela estreia do professor da GB Kléber Buiú no MMA, e pelo retorno do rei da guilhotina Alexandre Pequeno, ex-campeão do Shooto.

Professor da Gracie Barra, o boa-praça Kleber Buiú chegou ao topo no último Campeonato Brasileiro Sem Kimono, realizado pela CBJJ no último sábado, no clube Canto do Rio em Niterói.

Campeão absoluto ao fechar com o parceiro Frederico Zaganelli, Buiú venceu também o meio-pesado, e comentou a conquista. “Olha, a minha expectativa era vencer mesmo, porque eu estava bem treinado e muito focado,” disse ele ao GRACIEMAG.com.

Buiú foi bicampeão no peso, e contou quando começou mesmo a crer que era seu dia.

“Comecei a acreditar que venceria também o absoluto depois de vencer a primeira luta, que foi muito dura”, conta o casca-grossa, que acha que desenvolve melhor seu jogo nas competições sem kimono.

“É, realmente eu acho que meu jogo é melhor sem pano, mas mesmo para as competições prefiro treinar com kimono. É o kimono que refina minha técnica”, explica.

Professor da Gracie Barra, ao lado de Jefferson Moura, Buiú pretendia participar do Mundial Sem Kimono, neste fim de semana em Long Beach, mas não se ligou no visto.

“Não consegui renovar meu visto este ano, então meu objetivo principal agora será o Mundial 2012, com kimono. Me aguardem”, encerrou ele.

Gracie Barra professor Kleber Buiú took top spot at the No-Gi Brazilian Nationals last Saturday at Canto do Rio club in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro state.

Before winning the absolute division after closing out the final with his buddy Frederico Zaganelli, Buiú also won the medium heavyweight division, and commented on the conquest: “I really did expect to win,” he told GRACIEMAG.com,

“because I was well trained and really focused.”

It’s the second time Buiú wins the title, explaining when it was that he started believing it was indeed his day:

“I started believing I’d win the absolute as well after winning my first match, which was really tough,” said the black belt, who feels his game flows better at No-Gi competitions.

“I really feel my game is better without the gi, but even in competition I prefer to wear the gi. It’s with the gi that a refine my technique,” he explained.

Head teacher at Gracie Barra alongside Jefferson Moura, Buiú had planned to be at the No-Gi Worlds next week in Long Beach but had let his visa expire.

“I didn’t manage to renew this year, so my main objective now is the 2012 Gi Worlds. Expect me there,” he said in closing.
