Maior colecionador de medalhas de ouro em Mundiais de Jiu-Jitsu, Roger Gracie está confirmado no derradeiro evento do Strikeforce, dia 12 de janeiro em Oklahoma City, nos EUA. O faixa-preta de Carlos Gracie Jr encara o americano Anthony Smith (17v, 7d), na divisão dos médios.

Com cinco vitórias e uma derrota no MMA, o Gracie radicado na Inglaterra chega ao Rio de Janeiro por volta do dia 4 de dezembro, semana que vem, para treinos de fazer o amante de Jiu-Jitsu salivar.

“O Joinha conversou com o Rodrigo Minotauro e achamos uma boa ideia treinar por lá, no Team Nogueira, no Rio de Janeiro”, disse o finalizador. “Eu ia ao Brasil de qualquer modo para passar férias, então não foi uma mudança tão grande de planos”.

Quem também está dentro do card galáctico do Strikeforce é o ex-campeão do evento Ronaldo Jacaré. O bicampeão mundial absoluto de Jiu-Jitsu substituiu o campeão dos médios, Luke Rockhold, lesionado. Jaca luta contra o invicto Lorenz Larkin, 13 lutas e 13 vitórias.

The greatest Jiu-Jitsu World Championship medal collector, Roger Gracie (5-1), is confirmed for the final Strikeforce event, which takes place Jan. 12 in Oklahoma City, Okla., USA. The Carlos Gracie Jr. black belt will take on American Anthony Smith (17-7) in a middleweight match-up.

Gracie will fly to Rio de Janeiro from his home of England next week for some training that will make jiu-jitsu lovers’ mouths water.

“Joinha spoke to Rodrigo Minotauro, and we felt it would be a good idea if I went to train there, at Team Nogueira in Rio de Janeiro,” said the tapout artist. “I was going to Brazil for the Holidays anyways, so it wasn’t too big a change of plans.”

Former Strikeforce champion middleweight champion Ronaldo “Jacaré” Souza is also on the Jan. 12 card. The two-time absolute world champion of jiu-jitsu enters in the place of injured middleweight champion Luke Rockhold. Souza will take on Lorenz Larkin, who is undefeated in his 13-fight career.

If you’re a Strikeforce fan, you’d better make the most of the next show. According to sources close to the event that launched the likes of Ronda Rousey, Antonio Pezão and Ronaldo Jacaré, it’s set to close its doors after the January 12 show in Oklahoma, USA.

What we can expect now, if no twists or turns in the story arise, is an exit for the ages, as that’s just what the card in the works looks sure to provide. The reigning lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez, will take on Pat Healy in the main event, and besides retiring the promotional belt to his mantel, the winner will surely join the UFC’s ranks carrying some major clout.

And three more champions are tipped to defend their crowns at the farewell event. Middleweight kingpin Luke Rockhold takes on Lorenz Larkin, while Nate Marquardt defends his welterweight belt against Tarec Saffiedine, and the promotion’s number 1 heavyweight, Daniel Cormier, locks horns with Dion Staring, with UFC fans watching attentively.

Se você é fã do Strikeforce, é bom aproveitar. Segundo fontes atentas ao evento, a organização de MMA que consagrou Ronda Rousey, Antonio Pezão e Ronaldo Jacaré deve mesmo encerrar suas atividades no dia 12 de janeiro, em Oklahoma, nos EUA, após seu show derradeiro.

O que se espera agora, se não uma reviravolta, é uma despedida com estilo. É o que o card anda prometendo. Atual campeão dos leves, Gilbert Melendez encara Pat Healy, na luta principal, e o vencedor além de levar o cinturão para casa deve chegar ao UFC cheio de moral.

E há outros três campeões escalados para o cercado negro. Dono do cinturão dos médios, Luke Rockhold enfrenta Lorenz Larkin, enquanto Nate Marquardt (meio-médio) encara Tarec Saffiedine. Já Daniel Cormier (campeão dos pesados) bate de frente com Dion Staring, com os fãs do UFC já de olho nele.

A noite de sábado foi de combates em San José, na Califórnia, com o Strikeforce. A principal luta da noite, que valia o cinturão de meio-médios, trouxe a revanche entre Nick Diaz e KJ Noons, e o título se manteve com o faixa-preta de Cesar Gracie. 

“Sabia que venceria na decisão, mas estou um pouco desapontado por não terminar com ele no primeiro round (Diaz teve um bom momento na primeira parcial). Estou um pouco surpreso, porque o Noons foi bem castigado. Ele tem o queixo bom”, comenta Diaz.

Na primeira vez que os lutadores se enfrentaram, em 2007, Diaz acabou derrotado devido a um grande ferimento. A luta teve de ser interrompida. Dessa vez, novamente o lutador sofreu um corte no rosto, mas seguiu no combate.

“Eu estava preocupado com o corte, mas o meu corner me disse que não era grande coisa,”disse. 

Apesar de não reclamar da decisão dos jurados, que deram a vitória a Nick, Noons desabafou o desejo por uma terceira luta. Sem problemas: 

“Eu não me oponho a uma terceira luta com o Noons, se ele derrotar mais alguns adversários. Tudo que os fãs quiserem é possível”, encerra Diaz.

Josh Thomson venceu Gesias Cavalcante numa luta dura, em que muitos, inclusive, acreditam que Gesias deveria ter sido o vencedor.

“Eu provavelmente poderia ter lutado muito melhor, mas JZ é um cara muito perigoso, um dos melhores do mundo e, obviamente, era muito importante para mim ganhar. Tentei lutar com segurança”, diz o lutador, que acredita ter sido merecedor da vitória. 

Marloes Coenen usou bem o Jiu-Jitsu e finalizou Sarah Kaufman com um armlock para faturar o título da categoria meio-médio. E a vencedora já tem adversária para defender o cinturão, Miesha Tate, vencedora do GP do Strikeforce.    

“Como eu disse antes, ganhar o título mundial era uma coisa que pode mudar a minha vida”, comemora.

Já Tyron Woodley não deu chance a André Galvão e nocauteou no primeiro round. 

“Eu me sinto maravilhoso. Eu sabia que havia machucado ele, mas não tinha certeza se ele estava fingindo ou não. Então tive que ser paciente. É uma tremenda vitória, mas eu realmente esperava que durasse mais tempo”, declara Woodley.

O Strikeforce montou seu cage em San Jose, na Califórnia, num sábado com duas disputas de cinturão. Nick Diaz manteve o título, enquanto Marloes Coenen tomou o cinturão de Sarah Kaufman. Já Josh Thomson e Tyron Woodley venceram, respectivamente, Gesias Cavalcante e André Galvão.    

A luta entre Nick Diaz e KJ Noons foi bem parelha. Diaz abriu vantagem no primeiro round, quando conectou bons golpes na trocação. A segunda parcial foi exatamente o inverso, com Noons acertando bons socos. Os três assaltos restantes foram bem disputados, com os lutadores em pé todo o tempo. Diaz buscou mais a luta, o que fez diferença no fim, com o resultado a seu favor por decisão unânime e o título de meio-médios ainda sobre seu poder.

Josh Thomson não deu moleza na volta de Gesias Cavalcante aos EUA. JZ começou bem, acertou um bom soco e tratou de encaixar uma guilhotina. Thomson escapou e contra-atacou com um justo katagatami. O segundo round foi do americano, que conquistou posições melhores no chão. Na terceira parcial, JZ foi para cima, montou e trabalhou bem no ground and pound. Após o gongo, os jurados preferiram Thomson por decisão unânime. Dependendo da interpretação, não seria estranho se o resultado fosse o inverso. 

Desafiante ao cinturão, Marloes Coenen usou bem a luta de chão para finalizar Sarah Kaufman e tomar o título da categoria meio-médio. O triunfo veio com uma chave de braço, no terceiro round.

Na primeira luta do card principal, Tyron Woodley manteve a invencibilidade, agora de nove lutas, contra André Galvão. Woodley conseguiu evitar as tentativas de queda do brasileiro e definiu com socos, ainda no primeiro round.

Weigh-ins for the event took place this Friday and the fighters are set to enter the cage on Saturday. In other heavily-anticipated matchups, Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen will also fight for their respective title, Gesias Cavalcante finally gets a fight in the USA against Josh Thomson, and André Galvão will look to add another win in the organization to his record, against the undefeated Tyron Woodley.

This Saturday in San Jose, California, a team of MMA aces will invade Strikeforce.

Worth the welterweight title belt, Jiu-Jitsu black belt and current champion Nick Diaz faces off with KJ Noons in a rematch bound to make sparks fly. Diaz lost to Noons in October 2007 at the now-defunct EliteXC promotion. The loss, the last on his record, came by way of doctor’s intervention.

“I feel good and making weight went almost perfectly. I’ve been mad about it for a long time (because of the first fight). I didn’t like the way it ended. I never considered the first fight a loss. I always saw it as a fight that was stopped prematurely. I don’t feel that now is a chance for revenge, but I’m happy to fight,” says Diaz.

“I love fighting and love my work. I trained really hard and I’m excited about Saturday. It’s a fight the fans want to see. I respect Nick as a fighter, I like to watch him fight, but I really am ready to face the best in the division. In the first fight I went after Nick because he never backs down. But I’ve been working on all aspects of my game. I’m certain that at some point he’s going to try and take me down, but I’m ready for anything,” says Noons in response.

Another big-name to see action is Gesias Cavalcante. The ATT representative was for a time one of the best lightweights on the planet, a two-time K-1 Hero’s GP winner. This Saturday, JZ will have Josh Thomson across the cage from him.

“It will be an excellent fight and I’m really anxious to make my Strikeforce debut. I like being in fights the fans want to see and talk about. It’s my chance to make a name for myself in the United States. I spent some time out due to injury, but I worked really hard with my teammates, who helped me get back into the game. But there’s nothing like a real fight,” he says.

Thomson promises to make things rough for the Brazilian:

“I have to beat him everywhere, there’s no way around it. JZ fought some of the best in the world. He’s probably the biggest and toughest I’ve ever faced, so I know I have to put it all on the line and see what happens,” he remarks.

André Galvão will be making his third appearance for the promotion, against Tyron Woodley. The black belt will have an undefeated fighter ahead of him (8w). Galvão guarantees he knows how to subdue his opponent.

“Tyron is a really tough fighter, a top wrestler who has fought three times in Strikeforce. I’m excited and I have a good game plan. I’m ready.

Another promising fight on the card is the welterweight female matchup between Sarah Kaufman and Marloes Coenen.
