The Jiu-Jitsu community keeps gathering around Grandmaster Francisco Mansor after he was a ttacked in a parking lot and had to be hospitalized.

This weekend, five black belt joined forces at Fabricio Medici’s academy in Astoria, NY for a fund raising seminar.

Professors Cesar Pereira, Marcio Bitencourt, Fabricio Medici, Wellington Godoi  and Lucas Pimenta were on the mats to teach for two and a half hours.

The event was a success and  all the proceeds will go to Mansor’s medical expenses.

The NY Pride Championship XIX held on Long Island, NY over the weekend brought athletes from all different teams together.

There were divisions for the children, adults and masters in gi and no-gi. The tournament is the biggest in New York for children in the area. With a huge amount of kids teams in the area at local schools, this was the place to be for who’s who in the youth crew.

GMA academies in attendance were Kioto BJJ who earned the first place team trophy in the kids category as well as the female category, Gracie Barra Long Island, Renzo Gracie Academy, Soca BJJ, Renzo Gracie Newark, Alliance NYC and others.

The NY Pride XIX tournament on March 8 is already taking names. Members from over sixteen academies have signed up for the event, which will be hosted at a new location. Academies such as GMA Alliance NYC, Gracie Barra Long Island, Kioto BJJ, BTT Boston, Soca BJJ and more will all be in attendance.

The tournament will be located in the John A. Danzi Athletic Center at St. Joseph’s College: 155 West Roe Blvd. Patchogue, NY 11772.

GMA members Eloy Santos and Milton Regis have put together tournament after tournament, always improving with the goal of giving the New York Jiu-Jitsu scene a high-quality event. Registration is still available at the discounted rate for early registration until Monday, Feb. 17. For one division, the cost is $69 and for two divisions the cost is $79. Grand Master Mansor and the black belts present at Pride XVI Photos: Pride

In honor of one BJJ Grand Master, the Pride XVI had a special taste. There was a long line waiting, not only an event t-shirt, but also an autograph, directly from the red belt Grand Master Mansur. The high rank and 72 year old was always smiling and treating each person with kindness, showing one more time why he has 9 degrees on his belt.

Who attended in the morning, had the great chance to watch more than 100 children, the new BJJ generation showing why this sport keeps growing in their good steps.

Competitors from almost 50 schools enjoyed the Sunday September 16 at the York College, NY, to support one of the most successful championships on the East Coast. With Gi and No Gi divisions, the event keeps attracting new competitors, kids, teens, adults, master and seniors, male and female, looking for an organized tournament. In front of everyone and with all black belts present a lined hierarchy, the promoters Eloy Santos and Milton Regis explained what Grand Master means to the history of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and how he deserves to be honored not only as grand master but also as a life example. To consolidate the ceremony, Mansur received the beautiful plaque from Melissa Regis.

During the afternoon when the adults entered on the mats to complete the event, we also had some great surprises, especially when the black belt Rafael Carneiro, after winning his division ran and got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend. Well, after she said yes both received applause from the audience and the fights didn’t stop.

Another great point of the tournament was the promotion to participate in the US Open, October 6 and 7, 2012. The raffle winner was a blue belt female, Elizabeth Opas, from Kioto. Elizabeth will be traveling to San Jose, California, to compete with all expenses paid. The next Pride already is scheduled for Sunday February 24, 2013 and soon we will be announcing the new location.

In the Kids division, Budokan took first place, Kioto BJJ 2nd and Serra BJJ third place. In the adult division, Renzo Gracie was on the top of the podium, Kioto in second place and Vitor Shaolin, third.

GMA member Kioto BJJ turned 46 recently.

The school founded by Grandmaster Francisco Mansor held the 2011 annual belt ceremony.

Black belt Milton Regis tells us how things went: “The ceremony took all day withy the whole team there. As usual, kids did steal the show. One day before, a Kioto BJJ group of students competed at an event called Goodfight and scored 161 points with only 10 athletes. The team that came second scored 144”.

On Facebook, GM Mansor had some words about the event: “It was something special for sure! Thanks to all the families that showed up to support their fighters, they deserve some applause. Congrats to all students who got promoted, you all are one step closer to that black belt!”

GMA member Bruce Shepherd welcomed Grandmaster Francisco Mansor for a seminar last Sunday.

The 9th degree red belt was in Evansville, Indiana, to teach a a special class.

“It was a great honor to have Mansor at the academy”, said Shepherd, leader of The Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

Among other priceless lessons, Mansor told the students: “Everybody thinks you need power, but in Jiu-Jitsu you don’t need power.”

Two GMA members got together last November 21st for a very special seminar.

André “Negão” Terêncio, leader of Brazil 021 Team, in Chicago, welcomed red belt grand master Francisco Mansor, of Kioto BJJ.

Over 40 of André’s students showed up for a class of pure BJJ.

André commented on the special occasion: “It was a great honor to present to my students the source of the Jiu-Jitsu we have learned, the linage of the team.”

Milton during the graduation

This year has been a special one for GMA member school Kioto BJJ.

The team celebrated its 45th anniversary and the 10th year in the USA.

To celebate such successful trajectory, the team recently held its annual promotion ceremony.

Over 300 students were promoted.

Among such huge numbers, two pupils deserved special attention for receiving their black belts.

Professor Milton Almeida was responsible for promoting one of them.

“Joe Maldonado is my first black belt in America,” said Almeida.
