Ronny Markes teve uma parada indigesta pela frente no UFC São Paulo, em janeiro. Seu oponente era o invicto americano Andrew Craig, pela categoria peso-médio da organização. Mesmo com a confiança um pouco minada, como ele explicou ao GRACIEMAG, a vitória veio por decisão unânime.

“Eu vinha treinando para fazer uma luta melhor em cima e no chão. Mas infelizmente no dia 30 de dezembro eu sofri uma lesão no lombar. Do dia 30 até o dia da luta fiquei sem treinar nada, acho que isso me deixou um pouco sem confiança. E olha que eu estava há quase um ano paradao, mas agora é pensar no futuro. Venci e vamos para a próxima”, disse Ronnys.

O atleta da Kimura/Nova União esteve esta semana em Fortaleza, onde ministrou ontem um aulão para o time da Nova União Ceará.

Ronny Markes had his work cut out for him last January at UFC São Paulo. His opponent was the undefeated middleweight Andrew Craig. And although his confidence was a bit shaken, as he explained to GRACIEMAG, he managed to win via unanimous decision.

“I’d been training to fight better standing and on the ground. But unfortunately on the 30th of December I suffered a lower-back injury. Between the 30th and the fight I didn’t train at all. I think that shook my confidence some. And I was almost a year sidelined before that. But now I need to look ahead to the future. I won, so on to the next one,” said Ronnys.

The Kimura/Nova União fighter spent the week in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, where he taught a seminar at Nova União Ceará.

The fighter from the State of Rio Grande do Norte taught a position exclusively for GRACIEMAG.com readers: a guillotine that can be used effectively both in MMA and in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu.

The headlining matchup of this Sunday’s WEC 49 show in Canada features former lightweight champion Jamie Varner against Kamal Shalorus, but the very first preliminary bout on the card offers a WEC first-timer who could provide much to talk about: Nova União’s Renan Barão will make his WEC debut against Anthony Leone at a catch weight between the feather and bantamweight divisions.

Barão is the current Shooto South America featherweight champion and has a record on 22 wins and 1 loss. He is the son of the kickboxing coach at team Kimura / Nova União camp in the northeast-Brazilian city of Natal, but spends much of his time training at the Rio de Janeiro headquarters of Nova União with standouts like WEC featherweight champion José Aldo, soon-to-debut-in-the-UFC Amilcar Alves, Ronys Torres, and the rest of the Nova União camp.
