The Internacional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) will host this Sunday the 11th in Long Beach, CA the first Jiu-Jitsu Charity Day (JJCD). The event will take place alongside the Kids International and the Long Beach International Open. All of the proceeds from these drives will be donated to UNICEF.

Besides donating the proceeds, the Federation will auction on eBay gis, shirts and hats signed by black belt world champions. Read the unedited press release below to find out more. Click here to learn how to be a part of the auction, seminars and more.

– IBJJF will be auctioning on eBay Gis, shirts, and hats signed by Black Belt World Champions, who are role models of the sport;

– Athletes are asked to bring 1 pound/piece of non perishable food in exchange for the athlete’s shirt. We will make a donation to the LA Food Bank;

– The organization will work alongside volunteers to enrich the event by involving the community with the cause, creating an event of unlimited proportions for the years to come;

– IBJJF will be organizing seminars of prestigious professors, in which the registration fees will be entirely donated to UNICEF.

The 2015 IBJJF season comes to an end this Sunday, Dec. 13, in Irvine, CA.

The Irvine International Open and the Kids International will gather hundreds of athletes at the Bren Events Center.

We prepared a quick guide for those who are going to compete.

The Bren Events Center is located at the University of California, Irvine (UCI).

You can choose to pay by hour or by day.

The kids’ event kicks off at 9:30AM and the IBJJF asks for competitors to be at the venue at least one hour prior to the scheduled time of their weight divisions.

Vitor Oliveira vs. Marcelo Mafra

It was fast, but thrilling.

The Long Beach BJJ Pro crowned its champions in the black belt division after awesome matches in the Long Beach Pyramid.

Here’s how each division came to be defined.

Male

Featherweight

Teammates Samir Chantre and Osvaldo Moizinho were the only two registered and as the rules prohibited a close out, Chantre advanced to the final to earn the prize and Moizinho placed third.

Middleweight

The most crowded division started out with Marcelo Mafra outscoring Magid Hage IV on the advantages.

Then, a freaky accident after a takedown at the beginning of the match took Nathan Mendelsohn out of commission with a dislocated elbow and granted Vitor Oliveira a spot in the final.

The second semifinal put Mafra against Rodrigo Freitas in another close match, but Mafra was able to finish it ahead, with a 4-2 score.

The gold medal match was short-lived, with Oliveira being able to get Mafra’s back and get a hold of the lapel to finish with a choke.

Heavyweight  

With four athletes registered, Eliot Kelly first faced off with Gabriel Kitober. More aggressive, Kelly got a 4-1 lead on advantages to make it to the final.

The other semifinal was between Lucas Rocha and Vinicius Silva. Lucas controlled the match to get to a kimura lock and win.

The final was a close match with Rocha and Kelly fighting for sweeps. The final score was 4-4 and the referees unanimously decided that Rocha deserved the gold.

Ultra-heavy 

Yuri Simões got his spot in the final with a dominant performance against Carlos Farias. A takedown, a gaurd pass and a knee to the belly built the 8-0 score.

The final was against James Puopolo and Yuri wasted no time to get a ezequiel choke in place to get the tap and take the gold medal home.

Female 

Open Class

The only two women registered to compete were Mackenzie Dern and Ana Laura Cordeiro.

The duo met in the open class final and Dern had her best moment with a foot lock that Cordeiro had to spin to escape.

As the match went on, Cordeiro imposed her game to pass and finish with a kimura lock.

You have until this Satirday, Dec. 6, to register for the Long Beach BJJ Pro and also enroll your children to the Kids International.

Both IBJJF events take place next Dec. 14 at the Long beach Pyramid.

The registration period is still open but you need to hurry to secure your spot.

The Long Beach BJJ pro will give prize money to division and open class winners (click here for more info).

It is a open event, but adult black belts need to have at least 20pts in the IBJJF ranking to compete.

All other divisions are open to any competitor.

Kids competing in BJJ

The IBJJF has added a new event to its annual calendar.

On December 14, the first Kids International championship will take place in the world famous Long Beach Walter Pyramid.

It’s the third all-kids IBJJF event, alongside the Pan Kids and the American Nationals Kids.

On the same day, the IBJJF will also hold it’s west coast pro event.

The BJJ Pro Long Beach will have money prizes for division champions.

The IBJJF will soon release more details on the events.
