Last weekend on Sunday, July 27, GMA Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire celebrated a milestone. The RGA Bucks, led by Kev Capel, had their one-year anniversary.

As part of the event, Roger Gracie came down to teach a class before grading some of the students. What followed was a barbecue in the rare British sunshine. Roger even cut the homemade cake with the club’s samurai sword!

Congrats to the RGA Bucks and many more years to come.

One of the most common guard passes that you’ll see at any tournament is the toreando or bull fighter pass. There are many variations and opportunities but most involve placing your grips on both pant legs and pushing and/or pulling the legs out of the way as you step to the side to secure side control or north/south.

Here are two variations to create the toreando guard pass and one video on how to counter the pass once an opponent has control of your legs:

Kev Capel of GMA Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire is celebrating his third year as a black belt. As a customary mark, the head instructor received a degree on his belt from Roger Gracie.

Our GMA members at Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire in England earned two medals at the 2014 IBJJF European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship in the last weekend of January.

Instructor Kev Capel competed in the black belt master 2 light-featherweight division and fought his way to the top earning a European title. His student, Dan Lewis, took home the bronze medal in the purple belt master 1 medium-heavyweight division.

Kev’s gold holds more weight than most given that he had been hunting it down since 2004. His victory marks a decade of hard work.

On Sunday, Dec. 8, GMA Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire traveled to Watford for the UK Championship.

One RGA Buck stand-out Daniel Lewis came home with two medals: one gold for his weight division and one silver for the absolute.

This was Daniel’s first time competing since he was promoted to purple belt by Professor Kev Capel. All of his matches were decided by footlock submissions.

Black belt Professor Kev Capel commented on the accomplishment: “Even the guys that didn’t medal all came real close to winning a place on the podium and won some epic battles and even more important than that everyone really came together as a team and were supporting and coaching each other during the whole day.”

RGA Bucks at the British Open

GMA member Kev Capel took his team to the 2012 British Open, last may 19th-20th.

His students did some damage at the NEC Arena, in Birmingham.

Kev himself won Senior Black belt gold, assistant coach Sahid Khamlichi won gold in purple belt adult and bronze in the masters.

Youth member Harrison Allen took gold in the under 18’s category.

Also our affiliate in Bicester OSTMA represented the team to the highest level with two golds from Bertie Cole and Bruce Coppen.

RGA bucks as a whole also brought home 4 silvers and 4 bronzes.

Good results for RGA Buckinghamshire

GMA member Kev Capel is proud of his team.

His team has been doing great at competitions recently.

Matty Burn, an assistant instructor at RGA bucks, won gold in the -88.3kg purple belt at The Welsh Open.

Harrison Allen won gold at the juvenile white belt -69kg category.

Hayley Carter won silver in the first womens only BJJ competition in the UK.

Yasmine Wilson on the podium

Yasmine Wilson, from Roger Gracie Academy Buckinghamshire, fought in the WPJJ Trials London in the beginning of March.

She finished first both at her weight division and the absolute.

With the results, Yasmine won the right to compete at the WPJJ 2012, next April, with all expenses paid by the event.

He put on a completely free Ladies self protection workshop using the techniques from Jiu-Jitsu that can help a smaller weaker person overcome a Larger agressor. The session was attended by 15 ladies from Aylesbury who all said they had a great time and were interested in doing some more training along the same lines.

The class covered topics such as defending yourself from attacks from behind, attacks from the front and defenses to attacks on the floor.

Due to the success of the class Kev is looking to put more free taster sessions on in the future and if the responses remain positive he will make it a permanent feature on the school’s timetable.

GMA member Roger Gracie had a memorable graduation ceremony last December 10th.

The leader of Roger Gracie Academy, in different locations in trhe UK, graduated no less than seven new black belts.

One of them was also GMA member Kev Capel, leader of Roger Gracie Buckinghamshire.

Roger and his father Mauricio Gomes have been working in the UK for a decade now.

GMA member Kevin Capel has completed another stage of his Jiu-Jitsu learning proccess.

On December 10th, the leader of Roger Gracie Buckinghamshire was awarded the black belt from no other than Roger Gracie himself.

Capel had a few words about it: “I started training with Mauricio Gomes[Roger’s father] 11 years ago, today was a good day. now, I plan to look forward to competing at black belt and concentrating on coaching my team at Rga Bucks”.
