Rodrigo Minotauro and Amaury Bitetti black belt Keiser Girao, the teacher at Team Minotauro Dallas, put together BJJ World Champions along with judo black belt Marcelo Dantas. The aim is to get as many gentle art representatives to attend seminars and classes throughout the state of Texas as possible.

For the inauguration of the project the guest was Braulio Estima. On returning from the Jiu-Jitsu Pan, Keiser was impressed by the technique demonstrated by Carlos “Esquisito” Vieira, who won the black belt light featherweight division and had great performance in the absolute, where he eliminated beasts like Bill Cooper and lost a tough match to super heavyweight Bruno Bastos. Esquisito’s seminar will take place this Saturday, May 29.

“He’s the man,” Keiser told GRACIEMAG.com. “He is the embodiment of the Jiu-Jitsu spirit; the weaker who faces the stronger on a level playing field, proving how it is the most effective martial art in the world. His guard is impressive,” he adds.

Esquisito’s seminar is to be held at the academy of Guy Mezger, a good place to train MMA in Dallas. Also on the agenda are seminars with two-time absolute world champion Amaury Bitetti, Lucas Leite, Rodrigo Minotauro, Rogério Minotouro and Alan Goes.

Keiser Girao, faixa preta de Jiu-Jitsu de Rodrigo Minotauro e Amaury Bitetti, professor da Team Minotauro Dallas, criou a BJJ World Champions juntamente com o faixa-preta de judô Marcelo Dantas. O objetivo é levar os maiores representantes da arte suave para seminários e aulas em todo o estado do Texas.

Na estreia do projeto o convidado foi Braulio Estima. Ao voltar do Pan de Jiu-Jitsu, Keiser ficou impressionado com a técnica demonstrada por Carlos “Esquisito” Viera, que faturou o peso pluma na faixa-preta e teve grande atuação no absoluto, onde eliminou feras como Bill Cooper e perdeu numa luta muito dura para o superpesado Bruno Bastos. Esquisito faz um seminário neste sábado, 29 de maio. 

“Ele e o cara”, diz keiser ao GRACIEMAG.com. “Ele e o espírito do Jiu-Jitsu, o mais fraco que enfrenta o mais forte em igualdade, o que prova que é a arte marcial mais eficaz do mundo. Sua guarda é impressionante”, completa.

Her tribute to MMA legend Rodrigo Minotauro came in the grand finale. Against Strikeforce MMA fighter Renee Robinson, Kelly got the tapout in under one minute, to the pride of her coach, Keiser Girao, who heads Team Minotauro in Dallas. The tribute to Mino came in the submission hold she promised to use: the anaconda choke.

“I know she’s going to try to take me down. If she messes up, I’ll get the anaconda choke as an homage to Minotauro,” she said before the match. “My teacher showed me Minotauro’s fights in Pride, and every time I’d watch him submitting Heath Herring, I’d think to myself: ‘Some day I’m going to do the same thing at an important moment.I just didn’t think that moment would come so soon and with the same move!” she would later remark.

The warrior Kelly is, she wakes up at 4:30 am every day to work at Starbucks. She leaves there at 1 pm to clean offices and then heads straight to training, from 6 to 8 pm. You think that’s it? Nope, her next stop is a club in Dallas, where she works as a bouncer.

“I’ve never seen anything like it here in America. Sometimes she gets to the gym early and I see her sleeping in her car,” says Keiser Girao, who, along with judo teacher Marcelo Dantas, believed in the fighter’s potential.

The next rung up the winning ladder is the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship.

“Our training for the Worlds is under way and it’s going off. Anyone wishing to participate can just stop by!” says Kelly in finishing.

Kelly Faszholz, 26 anos, nascida no Colorado, criada nos subúrbios de Chicago e morando em Dallas há 10 anos, se destacou no Pan 2010. Depois de uma ótima apresentação no Naga, tendo vencido com e sem kimono, a atleta foi graduada. Seis semanas depois veio a estreia na faixa azul, que chamou a atenção entre as meninas no Pan. Kelly se sagrou campeã no peso médio sem tomar ponto ou vantagem. Na primeira luta finalizou em menos de 2min, na segunda venceu pelo placar de14 a 0 e na terceira por 7 a 0. 

Mas a homenagem ao campeão de MMA Rodrigo Minotauro foi na grande final. Contra a dura atleta Renee Robinson, que combate no evento de vale-tudo Strikeforce, Kelly finalizou em menos de 1min para o orgulho do treinador Keiser Girao, que comanda a Team Minotauro em Dallas. A homenagem a Minota está no golpe que prometeu usar: o triângulo de mão.  

“Sei que ela vai tentar me colocar para baixo. Se ela der mole, vou pegar no anaconda choke para homenagear o Minotauro”, disse antes da luta. “Meu professor me mostra as lutas do Minotauro no Pride e, sempre quando via ele finalizando o Heath Hearing, pensava comigo: ‘Um Dia gostaria de fazer o mesmo num momento tão importante.’ Só não esperava que acontecesse tão cedo e com a mesma finalização!”, comentou depois.

Guerreira, Kelly acorda todo dia às 4h30min para trabalhar no Starbucks. Sai às 13h para limpar escritórios e depois vai direito treinar, das 18h até as 20h. Pensa que terminou? Não, ela ainda vai para um club em Dallas trabalhar como segurança. 

“Nunca vi nada igual aqui na América. Às vezes eu chegava antes na academia e a via dormindo dentro do carro”, conta Keiser Girao, que, ao lado do professor de judô Marcelo Dantas, acreditou no potencial da lutadora. 

E o próximo passo será no Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu. 

“Nossos treinos para o Mundial já começaram e estão pegando fogo. Quem quiser participar é só visitar!”, finaliza Kelly.

While in Dallas, the day before teaching a seminar at Siam Star Muay Thai academy, the Gracie Barra black belt and his hosts, including Jiu-Jitsu instructor Keiser Girao, were expected at a local watering hole to watch UFC 110 but never showed up.

Well after they were expected to have arrived, the concerned owner of the gym waiting for them at the bar “The Rugby House” called and spoke with Keiser. And he heard the following (as initially posted on the forum) from Keiser:

“Oh, this guy almost ran over Braulio and then got out of the car and wanted to fight and we all told him not to fight but he punched Braulio in the face so Braulio took him down and mounted him and told him he will hurt him. So the guy said O.K. and Braulio let him up and the guy walked back to his car and all of a sudden he pull a gun and HE SHOT BRAULIO TWICE!”.

To which the startled owner of Siam Star Muay Thai replied, “WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE SHOT HIM TWICE??? DID HE HIT HIM?”

And Keiser cleared up the fact his grammar had been misleading, to the relief of all: “No he didn’t.”

After the owner of the gym taught the Brazilian instructor a lesson in semantics, explaining the difference between  “shot him” and “shot at him”, things cooled down. The police had shown up and gone after the shooter, who fled, but no one had taken down the license plate number.

O lutador vai ensinar aos alunos técnicas de Jiu-Jitsu tradicional e submission. Das 10h às 12h, a galera veste o kimono. Depois, das 13h às 15h, quem gosta do treino sem pano poderá aprender posições e macetes aperfeiçoados por Bráulio, como o famoso triângulo invertido (foto) que infernizou os adversários no ADCC. Além disso, os participantes poderão ter um tratamento VIP e treinar com a fera. 

“Ele é o grappler número 1 da atualidade. Será um total de cinco horas de seminário e a grande novidade é a opção VIP. Apesar de custar um pouco mais caro, dá a chance de o praticante rolar com o super campeão e ganhar alguns toques para melhorar o jogo!”, fala Keiser Girao.

The fighter will teach participants traditional Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling techniques. From 10 am to midday the gi part of seminar will be taught. Then, from 1pm to 3om, anyone who likes training without the gi can learn positions and tricks perfected by  Bráulio, like the famous reverse triangle (photo) that made life hell for his opponents at the ADCC. Furthermore, participants will have VIP treatment and train with the champion.

“He’s currently the number 1 grappler. The seminar will be a total of five hours long and the big novelty is the VIP option. Although it costs a bit more, it gives practitioners the chance to roll with a super champion and get some pointers on improving their games!” says Keiser Girao.
