Facing Britol Marunde this Saturday at the Strikeforce event in Ohio, USA, Ronaldo Jacaré did a swell job in the striking department. It was his Jiu-Jitsu, his strongest skill, however, that guaranteed the black belt his win, with a third-round arm-and-neck choke.

In other fights on the card, Ronda Rousey won the main event, as did Josh Thomson, Kazuo Misaki and Lumumba Sayers in their respective affairs.

Como segue sua carreira após o bi mundial, em junho?

O Mundial 2011 na Califórnia foi muito especial para mim, pois tenho só 23 anos e já consegui ser bicampeão faixa-preta, em 2008 e 2011. Isso, com os todos os títulos nas outras faixas, onde venci o peso e o absoluto em todas elas, só me enche de orgulho – e ainda teve os títulos no peso e no aberto na preta no Mundial Sem Kimono. Acho que cada Mundial traz emoções diferentes, mas calhou que comemorei este ouro perto de completar um ano morando aqui nos EUA. Acho que isso indica que estou trabalhando e treinando de forma correta, que me adaptei bem, que minha estrutura aqui está sendo adequada para mim, e que vim na hora certa. Agora já estou esperando o resultado dos alunos em San Francisco aparecerem…

Você vai lutar em Cingapura, no One FC, como soubemos?

Já não sei, eu ia lutar com um coreano, mas a oito semanas da luta eles cancelaram, e a quatro semanas me ofereceram o Kazuo Misaki. Pedi para eles entrarem em contato com o meu empresário para acertar a luta mas eles continuaram mandando emails para mim, não me entenderam direito. Quem resolve com quem luto ou não, desde os 18 anos, é meu manager, vamos ver se eles melhoram essa comunicação.

Você soube do Grand Slam de Jiu-Jitsu no Maracanãzinho, em novembro, pelo GRACIEMAG.com. Torneios com prêmios bons em dinheiro podem tirar você do MMA?

Pois é, li sim e gostei muito da iniciativa. Mas tenho o sonho de mostrar meu Jiu-Jitsu no MMA, ainda quero me testar com os melhores das artes marciais mistas. Para mim é um prazer sair na porrada, mostrar a eficiência de nossa arte e ganhar para isso. Para mim o MMA é onde separa os homens das meninas (risos).

E qual o seu próximo compromisso?

Luto dia 14 de setembro no Amazon Forest Combat. Vai ser muito bom lutar no quintal de casa, né! Agora o foco total é no MMA, vou lutar tudo o que aparecer se eu tiver condições. Se eu não tiver luta, visto o kimono e caio dentro dos torneios.

How’s your career been going since taking your second world title, in June?

The 2011 Worlds in California was really special for me, since I’m 23 years old and already a two-time black belt world champion, winning in 2008 and 2011. That, along with all the titles I won at other belts, where I won at weight and absolute in all of them, fills me with pride – and there was even the weight and open weight titles as a black belt at the No-Gi Worlds. I feel each Worlds brings different emotions, but it happened that celebrate this gold about a year after moving to the USA. I feel it indicates that I’m working and training just right, that I’ve adapted well, that my setup here is adequate, and that the move came at the right time. Now I’m waiting for my the results from my students in San Francisco to start coming in.

Will you be fighting in Singapore, at One FC, like we’d heard you will?

I don’t know yet. I was going to fight a Korean fighter but they canceled eight weeks from the fight, and four weeks away they offered me Kazuo Misaki. I asked them to contact my manager to set it up, but they’re still sending emails to me; they didn’t understand me right. The one who’s been deciding who I fight or don’t fight ever since I was 18 is my manager. Let’s see if they fix the line of communication.

You found out about the Jiu-Jitsu Grand Slam at the Maracanãzinho gymnasium over GRACIEMAG.com. Could tournaments paying cash prizes take you out of MMA?

That’s right, I read about it and I like the initiative. But my dream is to show my Jiu-Jitsu in MMA. I still want to test myself in mixed martial arts. To me throwing down, showing how effetive our art is and getting paid for it is a pleasure. To me MMA is what separates the men from the girls (laughs).

What’s your next commitment?

I’ll fight at Amazon Forest Combat on September 14. It’ll be great to fight at home. Now I’m totally focused on MMA. I’ll fight in everything that comes up if I can. If I don’t have a fight lined up, I’ll put on my gi and go at it at tournaments.

The 14^th installment of Sengoku took place today in Japan.

Jorge Santiago defended his middleweight belt against Japan’s game Kazuo Misaki. The bout was a rematch of the 2009 GP final where Santiago won via submission in the fifth round.

After four lively rounds the Japanese athlete held an advantage and was on his way to winning when Jorge landed a strike that dropped the challenger to the ground and followed up with aggressive ground-and-pound till Misaki’s corner threw in the towel with 29 seconds left in the fight.

“I showed what champions are made of; the fight went as expected,” said Santiago after the bout.

Jiu-Jitsu black belt Léo Santos won his fight with Sotaro Yamada. The Japanese fighter was disqualified for kicking Santos in the groin region three times in the first round.

In the welterweight GP Taisuke Okumo and Yasubey Enomoto made it past their respective opponents and join Keita Nakamura and Takuya Wada in the next round of the tournament.

In the bantamweight GP Shitaro Ishiwatari, Shoko Sato, Wataru Takahashi and Jae Hyun go through to through to the next phase.

A décima quarta edição do Sengoku aconteceu na madrugada de hoje (horário de Brasília) no Japão.

Jorge Santiago defendeu o cinturão peso médio do evento diante do duríssimo japonês Kazuo Misaki. O duelo foi uma revanche da final do GP da categoria, quando Santiago finalizou no quinto assalto, em 2009.

Depois de quatro rounds bem movimentados, o atleta nipônico levava vantagem e caminhava rumo á vitória, mas o jogo virou quando Jorginho acertou um direto, levando o oriental ao chão. Seguindo com o castigo, foi agressivo no ground and pound e, como Misaki não esboçava nenhuma defesa, seu corner jogou a toalha, faltando 29s para terminar a luta.

“Mostrei como são feitos os campeões, a luta foi como eu esperava.” disse Santiago logo após o duelo.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu, Léo Santos venceu Sotaro Yamada. O japonês acabou desclassificado ao aplicar chutes nas partes genitais de Léo por três vezes seguidas, ainda no primeiro round.

Pelo GP de meio-médios, Taisuke Okuno e Yasubey Enomoto, passaram por seus adversários e se juntaram á Keita Nakamura e Takuya Wada, para a próxima fase do torneio.

Já no GP pluma, Shintaro Ishiwatari, Shoko Sato, Wataru Takahashi e Jae Hyun avançaram para a terceira rodada.

Japan lives and breathes MMA this Saturday, with another edition of Sengoku Raiden Championship to take place. Among the main bouts on the card, Jorge Santiago defends his middleweight belt against hometown boy Kazuo Misaki, and Jiu-Jitsu black belt Léo Santos enters the promotion’s ring for a third time, against Sotaro Yamada.

“I’m happy because I’ve been training hard and I expect another win. The idea is to make it to the top of the event. I want to win this fight and return at the end of the year, who knows? maybe for a title fight or a fight that sets me up for one,” Léo Santos told GRACIEMAG.com.

Furthermore, the event features two GP’s, one welterweight and the other bantamweight. All the fighters have already made weight and are ready for their matches.

O Japão respira MMA neste sábado, com mais uma edição do Sengoku Raiden Championship. Entre as principais disputas, Jorge Santiago defende o cinturão de médios do evento contra o atleta da casa Kazuo Misaki. Já o faixa-preta Léo Santos sobe novamente no ringue da organização, dessa vez contra Sotaro Yamada.

“Estou contente, porque já vinha treinando forte e espero mais uma vitória. Minha ideia é subir no evento e chegar ao topo. Quero ganhar essa luta e voltar no final do ano, quem sabe pelo cinturão ou em algum combate que me bote de cara com ele”, comentou Léo Santos ao GRACIEMAG.com.

Além disso, o evento vem com dois GPs, um no peso meio-médio e o outro de plumas. Todos os lutadores já se pesaram e estão prontos para disputa.
