A black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and owner of a number of IBJJF titles, Jonatas Novaes saw MMA action this Saturday, June 16, at SF Shofight 20. At the Springfield, Missouri event, the Rodrigo Comprido students was quick on the trigger and took just 51 seconds before landing a high kick um chute alto,

that landed in full, dropping dazed former UFC fighter Drew Fickett to the mat. Following up on the ground, the Brazilian dropped fists to finish what he started.

In other fights on the Shofight card, Lyle Beerbohm took a unanimous decision over Marcus Aurélio, and Kendall Grove overcame Derek Brunson by split decision. In the main event of the evening, John Gunderson tapped out former UFC fighter Karo Parisyan with a first-round guillotine.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu dono de variados títulos da IBJJF, Jonatas Novaes esteve em ação pelo MMA nesse sábado, 16 de junho, no evento SF Shofight 20. Em Springfield, Missouri, o aluno de Rodrigo Comprido foi rápido no gatilho e só precisou de 51 segundos para acertar um chute alto, que fez o ex-lutador do UFC Drew Fickett descer grogue. No chão, o brasileiro desceu o braço para liquidar a fatura.

With a number of IBJJF titles on his CV, Jiu-Jitsu black belt Jonatas Novaes has an MMA fight scheduled for the June 16 SF Shofight 20 event. The fight will be held in Springfield, Missouri, and the Rodrigo Comprido student will take on speedy former UFC fighter Drew Fickett.

“He’s got a lot of experience. I know it’ll be tough, but I have faith in God, I’m leaving there with the win,” said the Brazilian who now counts nine wins on his MMA record. Now his American opponent is 59-fights old, and has won 42 of them.

Dono de vários títulos da IBJJF no currículo, o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Jonatas Novaes está com luta de MMA marcada para o próximo dia 16 de junho, no evento SF Shofight 20. Em Springfield, Missouri, o aluno de Rodrigo Comprido vai encarar o rápido ex-lutador do UFC Drew Fickett.

“Ele é um cara com muita experiência, sei que a luta será dura mas estou com fé em Deus, vou sair de lá com mais uma vitória”, disse o brasileiro, que tem hoje nove vitórias no MMA. Já o experiente americano fez 59 lutas, saindo vencedor em 42 delas.

Na tarde de ontem, o AFC realizou sua pesagem nas dependências da Arena Amadeu Teixeira com astros do card e presenças ilustres, como Royce Gracie, Lyoto Machida e Cristiano Marcelo. A checagem de peso ocorreu tranquilamente, com alguns imprevistos. Foi o caso de Dilenos Lopes, que lutaria com o mexicano Dany Martinz, mas Martinez não compareceu e nem deu nenhuma satisfação à organização.

O americano Drew Ficket, escalado para enfrentar o ex-UFC Ronys Torres, no momento da pesagem ainda estava longe do peso programado, mas o combate será realizado. Yesterday afternoon, weigh-ins for the AFC were held in the Amadeu Teixeira arena with the stars of the show and some illustrious presences, like Royce Gracie, Lyoto Machida and Cristiano Marcelo. Weigh-ins took place in an orderly manner, with some unforeseen occurrences, as with the case of Dileno Lopes, who was set to fight Mexico’s Dany Martinez, who failed to show up and offered the organization no explanation.

The USA’s Drew Ficket, who’s set to fight two-time UFC fighter Ronys Torres, was way off weight when his turn to step on the scale came, but the fight will go through anyhow. Royler Gracie and his opponent weighed in without a hitch, as did the rest of the cast of the show, set to begin at 8pm Brasília time, 7pm Amazonas and Eastern Standard time. A veteran of Pride and the UFC and a native of the Brazilian state of Ceará, Marcus Aurélio captured his 21st career win yesterday at MMA Live 1, and event held at the Labatt Centre in London, Ontario, Canada, where he stopped Matt MacGrath with a first-round armbar, as Junior Samurai reports.

The black belt coming off a loss to Shinya Aoki left nothing to chance and set out on the attack, bringing on the pressure from the get-go. He quickly took the fight to just where he wanted it, catching his opponent in an armbar at 3:38 minutes of the opening round. It marked the thirtieth fight on the lightweight’s ledger, which includes nine losses.

In the main event of the evening, former UFC fighter Karo Parisyan was giving as good as he got up until a knee from Ryan Ford in the third round prompted the doctors to keep him from continuing.

Veterano do Pride e do UFC, o cearense Marcus Aurélio atingiu uma espécie de maioridade ontem, ao encarar Matt MacGrath no evento MMA Live 1, que rolou na noite de ontem no Labatt Centre John, em Londres, Ontário, Canadá. Ao finalizar no braço, o brasileiro chegou à sua 21ª vitória nos ringues, informa Junior Samurai.

No evento canadense, o cearense, que vinha de derrota para Shinya Aoki, não deu mole para o azar e partiu para cima, botando pressão desde o início da luta. Ele logo chegou aonde queria. Aos 3min38s de luta, o faixa-preta finalizou o americano com um armlock. Foi a trigésima luta do peso leve, que tem nove derrotas no MMA.

No combate principal da noite, o ex-UFC Karo Parisyan vinha fazendo uma luta parelha até tomar uma joelhada de Ryan Ford no terceiro round e ser impedido pelos médicos de voltar ao duelo.

Paulo Filho vai estar em ação no dia 18 de julho, no Impact FC, evento que acontece na Austrália e deve organizar edições no Brasil. Paulada estava preparado para fazer três combates num curto tempo, mas só vai fazer mesmo a luta contra Denis Kang. 

“A comissão atlética na Austrália não permitiu que o Paulão fizesse as lutas num espaço tão curto de tempo, infelizmente. Mas ele vai com tudo para cima do kang”, confirma André Bottino, que trabalha ao lado de alguns dos atletas que estarão no show. 

Baixa de última hora foi Luis Besouro, que enfrentaria Karo Parisyan no dia 10 de julho. Na véspera do embarque para Austrália o lutador da RFT acabou se contundindo e não vai poder se apresentar.

“Karo Parisyan fo@#$%^^ o UFC, os fãs e seu adversário mais uma vez!!! Ele não vai lutar no sábado nem nunca mais no UFC!!”, escreveu White.

Karo estava lutando com uma lesão e preferiu não comentar o caso. “Deixe ele falar o que quiser”, respondeu o lutador ao Sherdog.com. Hazelett vai receber pela luta e o prêmio referente à vitória, de acordo com White
