GMA member Josef “Cobra” Manuel has just been appointed black belt Council at the US Army combative training facility at Camp Smith, upstate NY.

On July 27th he completed a level 2 course with the soldiers.

His work was much appreciated, as you can read: “Thank you very much Professor Josef! We were surprised, pleased, and eternally grateful for your amazing instruction here at the Army Combatives Center at Camp Smith!” said Eduardo Hernandez, the officer in charge of the program.

Black belt Josef Manuel is the leader of Cutting Edge BJJ, New jersey.

Soldiers on the Edge

While his master Robson Moura taught US Marines, GMA member Josef “Cobra” Manuel also took the opportunity to teach some of the secrets of BJJ to the military.

Recently the Cutting Edge BJJ leader and Moura’s first American black belt paid a visit to Camp Smith, in New York, for a class.

Manuel explains how he got there: “Staff Seargent Eduardo Hernandez has been conducting the Army Combative Course for three years and has asked for my counseling with his program at the 106th Regional Training Institute, at Camp Smith NY. With the help of assistant Instructor Isac Chaves (Brown Belt) and Iraq War Veteran Eduardo Hernandez (Blue Belt), I’ve helped prepare these soldiers that will deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan with the magical sweeps and powerful submissions of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.”

Robson Moura & Josef Manuel seminar in New Jersey

This April 24, 2010, seven-time world champion Robson Moura and his first American black belt, world champion Josef Manuel will be teaching a Gi/No Gi seminar in New Jersey. The class covering specific techniques, tips, and exercises focused on strengthening and fine-tuning practitioners’ competitive games will take place at Gilliam’s Mixed Martial Arts Academy in Dunellen, New Jersey, and is open to everyone.

Fusion, Moura’s brand of teaching in seminars and DVD’s, is a method covering all aspects of sport Jiu-Jitsu, from working out of tough positions and situations to learning how to use the IBJJF rules in your favor. Space at the 1^st New Jersey Fusion Seminar is limited, so the promoters recommend early registration.
