First, it’s best to make it clear. The chances of MMA getting banned from Brazilian network television are about as great as Chael Sonnen’s are of knocking out Anderson Silva at UFC 148: next to nil, but they’re there.

Be that as it may, the bill Brazilian congressman José Mentor is proposing to be passed as law spread through the media like wildfire, and the biggest Jiu-Jitsu website of the South American nation, at its readers’ behest, is making known its position on the matter.

Food for thought. Is it indeed the martial arts or MMA on television that makes a country inhumane, noble congressman? Wouldn’t it be more fitting to regulate, look at time slots, and not ban and censure? We’ll leave our gentle readers with yet another brutal scene to behold, while we reflect.

As cenas fortíssimas de luta que o deputado José Mentor tenta expulsar da TV

Primeiro, é bom deixar claro. A chance de o MMA ser banido da TV aberta é a mesma de Chael Sonnen nocautear Anderson Silva no UFC 148: é mínima, mas existe.

Seja como for, o projeto de lei criado pelo deputado José Mentor (PT-SP) grudou na mídia igual carrapato, e o maior site de Jiu-Jitsu do país, a pedido de seus leitores, informa sua posição sobre o assunto.

Concordamos com o jornalista Juca Kfouri quando ele escreveu que “a tentativa do deputado do PT de São Paulo, José Mentor, em proibir a transmissão das lutas beira a simples insanidade autoritária”, opinião que outros faixas-vermelhas do jornalismo como Alberto Dines e José Trajano mantém.

O projeto criado em 2009, que está sendo analisado pelo ministério de Ciências e Tecnologias, traz outro grande engano. Ao procurar vetar o MMA nas TVs abertas, em qualquer horário, o deputado fala em banir todas as “lutas marciais não-olímpicas”.

Sim, lutas não-olímpicas, modalidades ferozes e ameaçadoras como as que o leitor vê a seguir, se tiver estômago.

Para Mentor, as lutas, com exceção das olímpicas, precisam ser afastadas dos olhos do público por serem “desumanas”. Pode ser. Mas para não cair no erro do deputado e generalizar, fomos buscar o significado do que seria uma atividade desumana.

Já que em Brasília os conceitos andam meio flexíveis demais, apelamos assim para a clássica filosofia. Acompanhe o que diz o escritor e professor de filosofia Pablo Capistrano, por exemplo, em seu livro “Simples filosofia”, de 2009, mesmo ano do projeto de lei:

Fica a reflexão. Será que é a luta ou o MMA na TV que faz um país desumano, nobre deputado? Não seria melhor regulamentar, buscar grades de horários, e não vetar ou censurar? Deixemos o leitor com mais uma cena brutal, enquanto refletimos.
