Proof the European Open just keeps getting bigger and more international, among the 1,800 athletes there was the infamous caravan from Japan.

And one of the standouts from the land of the samurais was Brazilian/Japanese Roberto Satoshi (Bonsai), who conquered an unprecedented title at lightweight brown belt after beating another very promising athlete in Jordan Schultz (Alliance). In the absolute, Satoshi took third – the winner was superheavyweight Alexander Trans (CheckMat).

“Shoot, thanks to you guys at GRACIEMAG.com everyone knew who I was when I got here, they came up and talked to me about my matches, my titles and all the articles on the site. It was worth the trip, I had four matches in the division, getting the finish in three. In the final I faced Jordan from Alliance, who was purple belt world champion in 2010 – and I managed to submit him with a choke. In the absolute I had four matches and lost to the champion, unfortunately,” remarked Satoshi, thanking his sponsors and celebrating the title he hadn’t yet had for his mantel.

“Pô, graças a vocês aí do GRACIEMAG.com quando cheguei aqui todos já me conheciam, vinham falar sobre minhas lutas, meus títulos e sobre as reportagens no site. Valeu a viagem, na categoria fiz quatro lutas, finalizando três. Na final, lutei com o Jordan da Alliance, que foi campeão mundial na roxa em 2010 – e consegui a finalização por estrangulamento. No absoluto, fiz quatro lutas e perdi para o campeão, infelizmente”, comentou Satoshi, agradecendo aos patrocinadores e comemorando o título inédito.

Dono de um extenso fã-clube entre a molecada americana que faz Jiu-Jitsu, o competidor Ian McPherson (Alliance Atlanta) recebeu a faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu após nove anos de treinos e muita dedicação.

“O Ian ganhou a faixa-preta no fim de outubro em Atlanta. Além dele, o Jordan Schultz foi promovido a faixa-marrom, depois de ter vencido o Ronis Gracie no último Mundial de Jiu-Jitsu”, comentou Romero Jacaré, líder da Alliance na Geórgia, EUA.

Big with Jiu-Jitsu fans in the United States, having an extensive fan club of his own, stalwart competitor Ian McPherson (Alliance Atlanta) was just promoted to the rank of black belt after nine years of training and lots of dedication.

“Ian got his black belt in Atlanta at the end of October. Besides him, Jordan Schultz was promoted to brown belt after beating Ronis Gracie at the last World Championship”, remarked Romero Jacaré, leader of Alliance Georgia, USA.
