Nem todo competidor sabe lidar bem com a derrota. Casos de conduta antidesportiva são vistos em todos os esportes, e no MMA não é diferente. Diferente, quem sabe,  são as medidas adotadas como punição.

Jason High, atleta peso leve do UFC, foi derrotado pelo brasileiro Rafael dos Anjos no UFC Fight Night do último sábado, dia 7, em Albuquerque. Infeliz com a interrupção, Jason deu um empurrão no árbitro. Resultado? High foi cortado do plantel do UFC.

O americano chegou a pedir desculpas pelo Twitter, já prevendo sua punição iminente, mas o presidente do Ultimate, Dana White, não quis saber e cortou o atleta sem dó nem piedade. O manda-chuva justificou:

“Jason High se levantou e empurrou um árbitro, e eu vou cortá-lo. Você nunca pode tocar no árbitro. Ele até pediu desculpas no Twitter, mas já era”, disse White.

Estrela do noite do UFC em Albuquerque, Benson Henderson mostrou que a sua faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu não é só para contar para os amigos. Com uma transição rápida para as costas, Bendo finalizou Rustam Khabilov com um mata-leão na luta principal do evento, realizado no último sábado, dia 7.

No coevento, um duelo de trocação entre Ross Pearson e Diego Sanchez, que acabou em vitória polêmica para Sanchez na decisão dividida. Ainda no card principal, Rafael dos Anjos mostrou que está com a trocação em dia, além do Jiu-Jitsu afiado, e venceu Jason High por nocaute técnico. Confira os destaques:

Jiu-Jitsu salva Ben Henderson

Na luta principal da noite, Benson Henderson, ex-campeão peso leve do UFC, vinha embalado de uma vitória sobre Josh Thomson em sua participação mais recente na organização para enfrentar a dureza russa Rustam Khabilov.

E não foi para menos. Rustam mostrou sua força no combate, atacando com muita pressão, usando poderosos diretos de direita. Bendo, por sua vez, absorvia bem e respondia os golpes na medida do possível. NO jogo agarrado, melhor também para o russo, que não achou dificuldades para derrubar o, até então, ruim de cair Benson.

No decorrer do combate, sopapos eram trocados dos dois lados, mas Khabilov parecia ditar o ritmo da luta. Até o quarto assalto, quedas, tentativas de evolução no solo, tudo bastante equilibrado, mas com vantagem para o russo.

Porém, o combate seria definido no quarto round. Levando atraso nos pontos, Bendo partiu para definir o combate com um forte upper de direita que estremeceu Khabilov. Na continuação, Henderson atirou uma esquerda que acertou Rustam mas passou direto pelo rosto e deixou o antebraço esquerdo caprichosamente armado para estrangular. Bendo não pensou duas vezes e foi para as costas com o pescoço de Rustam já laçado e estrangulou no mata-leão.

Além do Jiu-Jitsu, Dos Anjos mostra trocação forte

Quem esperava uma apresentação do bom Jiu-Jitsu por parte de Rafael dos Anjos não se decepcionou. Mas não podemos dizer que foi no solo que a sua vitória sobre o americano Jason High foi definida.

No duelo entre os professores Roberto Gordo, do lado brasileiro, e Ricardo Libório, líder da ATT, time de High, ficou melhor para o atleta da Gordo Jiu-Jitsu, que deu apenas uma palinha do que se aprende por lá. Em certo momento no primeiro assalto, Rafael se viu em apuros com Jason por cima para golpear. A solução? Da meia-guarda, o faixa-preta fintou a chave de braço e raspou com classe o americano.

Mas o Jiu-Jitsu ficou por aí. A definição do combate veio no braço. Com uma trocação solta e chutes com a perna da frente, Dos Anjos mostrou que sua parte em pé está em alta, e no segundo assalto conseguiu encaixar um forte golpe que levou Jason, estremecido, ao solo. Mais alguns golpes e vitória de Rafael dos Anjos por nocaute técnico.

Um clima fraternal tomou conta dos bastidores do UFC on Fox 6. Após um duelo de gigantes, protagonizado por Glover Teixeira e Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, as farpas disparadas antes do embate foram deixadas de lado e um ar de cordialidade tomou conta do cercado. Após o evento, realizado no dia 26 de janeiro, em Chicago, Glover Teixeira disse no coletiva de imprensa pós evento que é fã de Rampage, além de ressaltar o bom trabalho executado no octagon.

“A luta foi ótima. O Rampage é uma lenda do esporte e eu fico feliz de ter chegado lá e feito essa luta com ele. Lutei em pé, joguei ele pra baixo, fiz um pouco de tudo e me sinto ótimo com isso”, comemorou o mineiro de  Sobrália.

O faixa-preta, que com essa chegou à sua 18° vitória consecutiva, recebeu os parabéns por seu embate de todos em volta, inclusive de Rampage, torcendo para que a acensão na carreira de Glover só pare no topo dos meio-pesados.

“Agora eu sou seu fã. Vá pegar aquele cinturão”, torceu o lendário ex-campeão da categoria.

Agora resta saber como fica a corrida para o tão sonhado cinturão, atualmente nas mãos de Jon Jones. E o que não falta é gente na fila.

A brotherly mood settled in behind the scenes following UFC on Fox 6.

At the post-fight press conference that followed the Jan. 26 event in Chicago, Glover Teixeira revealed that he’s a fan of Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, and also underscored the good work he carried out in the cage.

“It was a great fight. Rampage is a legend of the sport and I’m glad to have gone there and fought him,” Teixeira said during the presser on Saturday night. “I fought standing, took him down, did a bit of everything, and I feel great about it.”

The black belt, who with the fight notched his 18th win in a row, was congratulated on his performance from all sides, even by Rampage, who joins the crowd rooting for Glover’s ascension to take him to the top of the light-heavyweight ranks.

“Now I’m your fan. Go get the belt,” the former champion of the division told Teixeira after the fight.

Now we’ll just have to wait and see how the rest of the race to the belt currently held by Jon Jones goes. And there’s no lack of people in line for their crack at it.

Demetrious Johnson successfully defended his flyweight title, going the distance and defeating John Dodson in the main event at UFC on FOX 6 at the United Center in Chicago on Saturday.

After being stunned by heavy strikes early on, Johnson found success with knees in the latter stages of the fight, earning the judges’ nod with scores of 48-47, 49-46 and 48-47.

“The first couple rounds didn’t got the way I wanted to,” Johnson said following the win at the post-fight press conference. “John Dodson’s tough.”

“When you’re going against a guy with puncher power, it’s going to happen.”

Johnson looked good early on in the matchup, pressing the action and controlling the center of the octagon. Dodson did well to counter, throwing and landing punches, but Johnson continued to show aggression and get the takedown to earn the round.

Round two had Dodson showing more aggression than he did in the first five-minute frame. The challenger stunned Johnson twice, although he didn’t follow through to continue with strikes on the ground. Takedowns by Johnson were responded to by Dodson getting back up on the feet shortly after.

Dodson continued his attack as the fight went to the third round, but it was in the fourth that Johnson began to clinch and land several knees. Dodson tried to counter with punches, but the champ continued to land knees and secure takedowns towards the end of the fight.

“His camp did a great job to get him ready for me,” Dodson said in defeat.

With the win, Johnson improves his record to 17-2-1, while Dodson drops to 14-6.

Teixeira Sends Rampage Packing

Glover Teixeira topped Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the co-main event at UFC on FOX 6, earning the unanimous decision in Chicago.

The Brazilian stood with Jackson and scored points on the feet, and took him down at will to earn the judges’ call with scores of 30-27, 30-27 and 29-28.

“I knew [knocking] Rampage out is a tough thing to do,” Teixeira said at the press conference.

Teixeira did well to find openings and land strikes in the first round while Rampage looked winded towards the end of the frame. Jackson was taken down with every attempt made by his opponent, and Teixeira kept striking as Jackson worked to get back to the feet.

Jackson got a second wind, scrapping with his opponent at the beginning of the third round, but it didn’t last long. Teixeira continued to easily score takedowns through end of the fight.

When asked who he wants to face after beating a former light heavyweight champion, Teixeira responded by saying it’s the UFC’s job to pick his opponents, but he’ll be prepared at a moment’s notice.

“I’ll fight anyone,” Teixeira said. “Whenever they call me, I’ll be ready.”

With the win, Teixeira improves to 20-2. In his last contracted fight with the UFC, Jackson drops to 32-11.

Pettis TKOs Cerrone in the First

Anthony Pettis finished Donald Cerrone in the first round of the second UFC on FOX 6 main card fight on Saturday.

The 25-year-old Pettis landed several kicks, but it was a mid kick that made Cerrone cringe and have the referee step in to stop the fight at 2:35 of the opening round.

“I ain’t scared of nobody,” Pettis said in his post-fight interview. “I want that belt.”

Pettis, a third-degree taekwondo black belt, landed several strikes on the Muay Thai specialist and hurt him with shots to the midsection.

Cerrone curled up after Pettis landed a well-placed kick to the ribs, and the referee stopped the fight after two more strikes to the head.

Pettis is now 16-2, and will face the winner of the Henderson-Melendez lightweight title fight scheduled for April 20, according to UFC president Dana White. Cerrone drops his record to 19-5.

Lamas Smashes Koch

Ricardo Lamas knocked out Erik Koch in the second round of the opening main card fight at UFC on FOX 6 on Saturday.

After initially meeting stiff takedown defense from Koch in the first round, Lamas was able to bring the fight to the ground and land strong punches from top position in the second. Lamas then landed several elbows, rendering Koch unconscious. The referee stepped in at  2:32 of the round.

With the win, Lamas improves to 13-2, and Koch drops to 13-2.

Today’s a UFC day. And though there may not be too many big names on the main card, this sixth UFC broadcast on Fox channel boasts a card guaranteed to heat up chilly Chicago this Saturday, Jan. 26. Here’s GRACIEMAG.com’s list of the five fights likely to bring the most excitement.

5. Ryan Bader vs. Vladimir Matyushenko

A big battle in the light heavyweight division. Ryan (14 w, 3l), who signed with the UFC after winning the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, where he took out Jiu-Jitsu star Vinny Magalhães, needs to show he’s still the same hard nut to crack that outdid the likes of Keith Jardine, Rogério Minotouro and Rampage Jackson. Bader is coming off a knockout loss to Lyoto Machida at UFC on Fox 4. Across the cage from him will be Matyushenko (26w, 6l), who has been fighting since 1997. The Belorussian won back-to-back fights before getting TKO’d by Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 141. “The one with the bigger balls will win,” Matyushenko has said.

4. Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas

The featherweight tilt between Koch and Lamas is not likely to be left to the judges. Erik has a lone blemish in his 14-fight career and wants to reaffirm his place as a possible challenger to José Aldo’s throne since a clash between the two was canceled due to injury. Now, his opponent, Ricardo Lamas (12w, 2l), is undefeated in the UFC with three wins. The Jiu-Jitsu-savvy Lamas’s last outing saw him outpoint highly touted Hatsu Hioki at UFC on FX 4.

3. Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson

Flyweight titleholder Johnson (16w, 2l) previously fought up a weight class, where he even challenged bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz for his title at UFC on Versus 6. Now the kingpin in the division of the most diminutive, Demetrious won both his fights in the fledgling flyweight category to take his place as the man to beat. And now, in defending his crown for the first time, he will have his work cut out for him. John Dodson (14w, 5l), who himself has fought at bantamweight, won season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter reality show upon knocking out TJ Dillashaw. Dodson comes into the fight following a knockout win over Jussier Formiga in the second round of their encounter at UFC on FX 5.

2. Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Pettis and Cerrone lock horns in hopes of setting themselves up for a shot at the lightweight title. Pettis (15w, 2l) starred in what was elected the finest fight of 2010, landing a flying kick off the cage and knocking down current UFC champ Ben Henderson in the now-defunct WEC. Pettis is riding back-to-back wins, the latest at UFC 144 by way of knockout over the rugged Joe Lauzon. Now, Donald Cerrone (19w, 4l) has racked up four wins in the UFC since dropping a decision to Nate Diaz at UFC 141. A solid finisher and first-rate knockout artist, he has a first-round knockout over Melvin Guillard that garnered him both “Fight of the Night” and “Knockout of the Night” honors in one fell swoop.

1. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira

Will it be Rampage’s farewell or Glover Teixeira’s welcome to the UFC’s elite? However you look at it, you’re going to like what you see. In the co-main event of the evening, Brazil’s Glover will likely stick to his all-out offensive style. Quinton (32w, 10l), a former UFC champion and major star ever since the days of Pride FC, has fought a Who’s Who of world MMA: he has defeated Murilo Bustamante, Chuck Liddell, Dan Henderson and Wanderlei Silva, not to mention challenging Jon Jones for the title in 2011 at UFC 135, losing via rear-naked choke. Could the ground be Glover’s best bet? Savvy with takedowns and concussive with his fists, the Brazilian black belt has only two career losses and has won 12 of his 21 fights via knockout. Glover hasn’t lost since 2005, and he carries a 17-fight win streak with him into the cage tonight. Does this one promise fireworks, or what?
