Brazilian black belt Ricardo “Demente” Abreu needed just 59 seconds to knock out the third opponent of his MMA career, bringing his tally to three in three fights, all ending in the first round. Yesterday’s opponent as Jared Bailey, and American who held a record of three wins in four fights heading into the bout. Demente also succeeded in bagging the Knockout of the Night award, not to mention the Extreme Fighters World Championship middleweight belt, at the event this Friday in California.

“I’m really happy about the way everything has been happening in my career, from the Jiu-Jitsu titles to this third win in MMA. The win isn’t just mine, as I always say, because a champion doesn’t come to be on his own. My team has been fantastic. Tito Ortiz, who was in my corner, Master Rafael Cordeiro… I want to thank everyone who has helped me and who roots for me. And God, in particular,” said the champion.

Two minutes and twenty-four seconds of fighting—that’s how long it took Ricardo Demente to put away all three of his opponents. About that, the BRFC and now Extreme Fighters World Championship champion said that he doesn’t consider time when doing his job.

“I get in the octagon to not get hit and to fire off my moves as soon as possible, but fully aware that the fight can be long, three five-minute rounds. If I win in less time than that, great—less suffering and more joy,” said the Punishment/Esporte na Veia representative.

O brasileiro Ricardo “Demente” Abreu precisou de apenas 59 segundos para nocautear seu terceiro adversário no MMA, somando agora três vitórias, em três lutas, todas no primeiro round. O oponente ontem foi o americano Jared Bailey, que tinha no cartel quatro lutas e três vitórias. Demente faturou também o prêmio de nocaute da noite, no combate que aconteceu nesta sexta-feira, 30, valendo o título da categoria 84kg no Extreme Fighters World Championship, na Califórnia.

“Estou realmente muito feliz por tudo que vem acontecendo na minha carreira, desde os títulos do Jiu-Jitsu, até esta minha terceira vitória no MMA. Vitória que não é só minha, como sempre digo, porque um campeão não nasce sozinho. Minha equipe tem sido fantástica, o Tito Ortiz, que esteve no meu córner, mestre Rafael Cordeiro, enfim, em nome deles quero agradecer a todos que me ajudaram e torceram por mim. E a Deus, principalmente”, disse o campeão.

Dois minutos e vinte e quatro segundos de luta. Esse é o tempo que Ricardo Demente precisou para vencer seus três adversários. Sobre isso, o campeão do BRFC e agora do Extreme Fighters World Championship afirmou que não trabalha em cima de tempo de combate.

“Subo no octógono para não ser atingido e para colocar meus golpes o quanto antes, mas sabendo que a luta pode ser longa, em três rounds de 5 minutos. Se as vitórias têm vindo em pouco tempo, melhor, menos sofrimento e mais alegria”, comemorou o atleta da Punishment/Esporte na Veia.

With two wins in both his career MMA fights, with neither opponent holding out past the first round, Ricardo “Demente” Abreu will be hoping to make it a third in California this Friday, when he heads into the most important fight of his MMA career. His opponent will be Jared Bailey, who holds a record of three first-round wins in four fights. The fight will be worth the Extreme Fighters Championship middleweight belt.

After winning both installments of Brazilian FC, back in his home state of São Paulo, this will be the Demente’s first fight outside his native Brazil.

“I always get butterflies in my stomach; that’s part of the sport. But my head is confident because of the grueling work I did in training with the best in the world, like Titor Ortiz and Master Rafael Cordeiro. That’s what makes me feel secure when I get in there and conquer my third win for my country,” said the onetime world runner-up in Jiu-Jitsu who has been living in the United States for the last two years.

O adversário será o americano Jared Bailey, que soma quatro lutas e três vitórias, todas no primeiro round. O desafio vale o título da categoria 84kg no Extreme Fighters Championship.

Depois de vencer as duas edições do Brazilian FC, em São José do Rio Preto e em Ribeirão Preto, esta será a primeira luta do brasileiro em solo internacional.
