Winner of the Southern Brazilian Championship and runner-up at the Rio Open, Hugo Brito is in Europe to teach a series of seminars. Alongside Max Carvalho, the leader of Gracie Barra Hungary, the black belt at the helm at GB Parnamirim taught two lapel attacks from side-control exclusively for GRACIEMAG.com readers.

Note how in the first one he traps the opponent’s arm and finishes with an americana. Now should the opponent break free, he uses the cloth to come up with a choke. Check it out:

Initially a beginners tournament for want of enough blue belts to form weight groups, the situation today is completely different. Whereas before hardly anyone knew Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Hungary and its neighboring countries, ever more athletes are taking to gentle art competition in the region.

On this seventh year of Open BJJ Hungary’s existence, over 250 athletes will join the competitive mix. Among them, blue belts, purple belts and brown belts from Hungary and its surroundings.

Gracie Barra Pernambuco leader José Olímpio da Rocha, better known as Zé Radiola, has his bags packed for a season of seminars throughout Europe.

This year he will hold seminars in Nice (south of France), Paris, Moscow, Budapeste, and Vienna, and in Mansfield and Birmingham (both in England).

Besides the seminars, Zé and student Max Carvalho (Gracie Barra Hungary) will organize the Hungary Open for the sixth year in a row.

“The championship in Hungary, besides being a major event on the Eastern European calendar, it’s a chance for us to get together, since my students living in Europe meet to participate in the organizing the championship and the seminar. And we’ll also make the most of it to train together!” says the good-natured Zé Radiola.

Last September 26 the children of Hungary donned their gis for a little Jiu-Jitsu action at the Hungarian Kids and Juniors BJJ Open.

More than ninety participants from Hungary and Croatia between the ages of seven and sixteen were there on the mats set up in Tamasi. The event is organized by the black belt responsible for Gracie Barra Hungary, Max Carvalho, and blue belt Gabor Szots.
