O faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Caio Magalhães deve retornar à jaula mais famosa do MMA no mês de novembro. Treinando em Fortaleza, o lutador não se esqueceu do Jiu-Jitsu de competição no entanto, e já mira a Seletiva para o WPJJC de Abu Dhabi, que rola nos dias 15 e 16 de setembro em Natal.

“Meu sonho é lutar em Abu Dhabi. Consegui a classificação este ano, mas os compromissos com o UFC impediram minha participação”, lembrou ele. “Mas dessa vez acho que vai dar, vou logo garantir a vaga”, garantiu.

Jiu-Jitsu black belt Caio Magalhães should be back in MMA’s most famous cage in the month of November. Training in the Northeast Brazilian city of Fortaleza, the fighter hasn’t forgotten about his past as a gentle-art competitor and has targeted the Abu Dhabi WPJJC tryouts coming up September 15 and 16 in the city of Natal.

“I dream of competing in Abu Dhabi. I managed to qualify this year, but my UFC commitments kept me from participating,” he recalled. “But this time I think it’ll happen. I’m going to secure my spot right away,” he asserted.

Always with an eye to gentle-art studies, the UFC middleweight demonstrated a position exclusively for GRACIEMAG.com.

In the instructional, Caio shows how to fool the opponent when passing guard in No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu. Notice how he removes his opponent’s underhook, grabs his head and puts a hand on his biceps to then land on the side and fake a kneebar attack. From there, he keeps the hook in place and spins, sitting and grabbing the hip, to next take the back.

O peso médio cearense Caio Magalhães estreou no UFC no último dia 8 de junho, mas o primeiro passo não foi do jeito que o faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu esperava.

Contra Buddy Roberts, o popular “Hell Boy” sentiu pela primeira vez o gosto da derrota. “Foi uma luta muito forte, começamos ambos a cem por hora mas os dois estavam bem preparados. Não tenho nada a reclamar da luta, foi minha estreia, né? Eu já tinha cinco lutas de MMA, mas o Ultimate é outro mundo. Estava confiante até demais, acho que isso serviu como lição para mim. Quando a gente dá um passo para trás, serve para dar impulso e pular dez passos adiante”, disse Caio.

“Aprendi de vez que Jiu-Jitsu é uma arte, MMA é outra. Errei ao insistir demais no single-leg para derrubá-lo. Não prestei atenção nos detalhes das posições, percebi depois que poderia ter ido na cintura e conseguido derrubar. No fim das contas, perdi a luta mas fui para cima o tempo todo, então acho que deixei uma boa impressão”, completou ele, que espera lutar no UFC Rio 3, em outubro.

“Minha esperança é ser chamado para o UFC Rio, mas onde for escalado estarei pronto. Dia 8 estou indo para Las Vegas, para conhecer a feira UFC Fan Expo, fiquei feliz por ter sido convidado”, disse.

Middleweight black belt Caio Magalhães made his UFC debut last June 8, but his first outing in the top flight didn’t go quite the way he’d hoped it would.

Facing Buddy Roberts, “Hell Boy” felt the sting of defeat for the first time in his MMA career. “It was a really hard fight. We both started out at full speed but both of us were well prepared. I have no complaints about the fight. It was my debut, right? I’ve had five MMA fights, but the UFC is a different world. I was too confident. I think that served as a lesson for me. When you take a step back, it serves as a boost to jump ahead ten steps,” said Caio.

“I learned once and for all that Jiu-Jitsu is one art, MMA is another. It was a mistake for me to insist too much on the single-leg to get him down. I didn’t pay attention to the details of the positions. I realized afterwards that I could have gone to his waist and gotten him down. In the end, I lost but I was on the attack the whole time, so I think I made a good impression,” he added, hoping to have another shot when UFC Rio 3 comes around in October.

“My hope is to get called up for UFC Rio, but I’ll be ready no matter where they want me to fight. On the 8th I’m going to Las Vegas to see the UFC Fan Expo. I’m glad I was invited,” he said.

In the following video, the black belt demonstrates a guillotine that can be used in MMA and No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu. Pay attention to how Caio places his bottom knee on his opponent’s thigh and his hand on the hip to keep him from flipping. After that, he just squeezes out the hold, applying pressure on the side where his bicep is up against the neck.
