Last Saturday, November 17, Professor José “Zé Radiola” Olimpio and his black belt Max Carvalho promoted the seventh installment of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Hungary, a Jiu-Jitsu tournament in Budapest, Hungary.

“The championship grew and grew over the years, and now it’s a fixture on the European Jiu-Jitsu calendar,” Zé Radiola remarked. “There were 380 athletes signed up, traveling from as far away as Serbia, Croatia, Romania, Australia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ukraine, Russia, France, Poland, Macedonia, India, Belgium and Brazil. And this year, besides the traditional weight divisions, we included a contest between European nations as well,” he added.

And it was host nation Hungary that took the title, followed by Romania and Slovakia.

Now, the trophy for winning team went to Gracie Barra Hungary, with Alliance Slovenia in second and Zerjal Team in third.

Zé took the opportunity of the occasion to teach a seminar in the Hungarian capital of Budapest the day following the championship. “It proved productive, as the athletes were able to correct the mistakes they made at the tournament and work on what they had trouble with,” said the master from Gracie Barra Pernambuco.

Zé took the chance to send in the following demonstration of a handy way of counter-attacking the hook-guard.

Professor José Olimpio, o Zé Radiola, e seu faixa-preta Max Carvalho realizaram no último sábado, 17 de novembro, em Budapeste, na Hungria, mais uma edição do Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open Hungary. O evento chegou à sua sétima edição, para satisfação de Radiola.

“O campeonato foi crescendo no decorrer dos anos e já se firmou no calendário de Jiu-Jitsu da Europa”, comentou Zé Radiola. “A competição contou com 380 atletas inscritos, de países como Sérvia, Croácia, Romênia, Áustria, República Tcheca, Eslovênia, Ucrânia, Rússia, França, Polônia, Macedônia, Índia e Bélgica, além da Hungria e do Brasil, claro. E este ano além das categorias tradicionais ainda tivemos a competição entre países europeus”, completou.

E a Hungria ficou com o título, seguida pela Romênia e Eslováquia.

Já na contagem final das academias, o troféu ficou com a Gracie Barra Hungria, com Alliance Eslovênia em segundo e Zerjal Team em terceiro lugar.

Zé Radiola aproveitou e deu um seminário na capital Budapeste no dia seguinte ao campeonato. “Foi produtivo, pois os atletas puderam aproveitar para corrigir e treinar as técnicas que tiveram dificuldade durante a competição”, lembrou o professor da Gracie Barra Pernambuco.

Zé aproveitou para nos enviar uma posição eficaz, um contra-ataque da guarda de gancho.

Last September 26 the children of Hungary donned their gis for a little Jiu-Jitsu action at the Hungarian Kids and Juniors BJJ Open.

More than ninety participants from Hungary and Croatia between the ages of seven and sixteen were there on the mats set up in Tamasi. The event is organized by the black belt responsible for Gracie Barra Hungary, Max Carvalho, and blue belt Gabor Szots.

Zé Radiola and Charles

Charles Negromonte is another Zé Radiola student with his bags packed for a tour of Europe.

Charles will spend two months in Poland at the Bráulio Estima Academy there, Copacabana GB. From there he’ll head over to meet Master Zé Radiola in Hungary to participate in the Hungarian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open, a tournament that Zé and Max Carvalho (teacher at Gracie Barra Hungary) are promoting for the sixth year in a row.

From Hungary, Charles will shoot over to England, where he will stay with Bráulio until the European Championship.

A Jiu-Jitsu representative put in a strong showing at the Fila Grappling Championships this past August 20 in Dakovo, Croatia.

Gracie Barra Hungary blue belt Hilm Gabor Szots came out on top in the under-75 kg gi and no-gi division. In the gi, GB Hungary purple belt Gabor Molnar took top spot in the under-80 kg division. To round out Jiu-Jitsu’s solid showing, another of the team’s representatives, blue belt Sandor Fekete, won the under-90 kg no-gi class.
