After winning the Naga New England on the 6th, Gabriel Gladiator is keeping up the pace in training for his upcoming AFO title challenge against the USA’s Jerry Spiegel in Boston on April 17.

The fight will be the second time the two fighters meet. At their first encounter, the Paulo Filho black belt took the W via judges’ decision.

“I fought him two years back and won the decision. He’s been talking smack so we’ll have a rematch for me to shut him up once and for all,” said Gladiator, who has had the help of his friend and master Paulo Filho in training for the fight.

“This time I’m much more skilled and with the right training, I’ve been practicing a lot of  muay thai and wrestling, but also adjusting the positions in my main weapon, Jiu-Jitsu. I talked with Paulão by telephone the other day and reminisced about some of the drills we would do to not lose positions,” he said.

Before the fight, on March 21 Gabriel will compete at a no-gi tournament in Milford, Massachusetts, as part of his MMA training. “These competitions help a lot in preparing for MMA, they put at competition pace and it is essential in my fighting well,” says Gabriel in finishing.

Depois de vencer o Naga New England no último dia 6, Gabriel Gladiador mantém o ritmo nos treinamentos visando à disputa do cinturão do evento AFO contra o americano Jerry Spiegel, em Boston, no dia 17 de abril.

A luta será o segundo duelo entre os lutadores. Na primeira vez, o faixa-preta de Paulo Filho levou a melhor na decisão dos jurados.

“Lutei com ele há dois anos e venci na decisão, ele anda falando umas besteiras então vai rolar uma revanche para eu calar a boca dele de vez”, explica Gladiador, que conta com ajuda de seu amigo e mestre Paulo Filho nos treinamentos para a luta.

“Desta vez estou muito mais treinado e com o treinamento correto, ando treinando muito muay thai e wrestling, mas também ajustando as posições na minha arma principal que é o Jiu-Jitsu. Conversei com o Paulão outro dia pelo telefone e relembramos de uns treinos que fazíamos de ajustes para não perder posição”, afirma.

Antes da luta, Gabriel disputa no dia 21 de março um torneio sem kimono em Milford, nos EUA, como parte de seus treinamentos para o MMA. “Essas competições ajudam muito na preparação para o MMA, pois me colocam em ritmo de competição e isso é fundamental para fazer uma boa luta”, finaliza Gabriel.

Last Saturday Fury in Fight Town went down in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Organized by Paulão Filho black belt Gabriel Gladiador, the house was packed for the event featuring amateur boxing, MMA and submission wrestling matches, as well as some professional MMA superfights.

Approximately 1,200 people filled the Boys and Girls Club gymnasium to watch Rodrigo Ruiz (CheckMat) fight local hero Joey Kevin, in the USA vs Brazil challenge. Ruiz needed just 1:47 minutes to knock his adversary out and secure a shot at the belt the next show.

In the other professional fight of the evening, the bout between Brazilians Marcos “Bicudinho” Maciel (BTT) and Marcos Babuíno (Macaco Gold Team) had no winner. After a lively start to the fight, Bicudinho fired off a powerful kick below Babuíno’s belt, leaving the athlete unable to continue, and the bout declared a no contest.

“It was a pity Babuíno couldn’t return; we’ll have another fight between the two of them next event,” said Gabriel Gladiador.

The next installment of Fury in Fight Town takes place March, 2010.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu de Paulo Filho e lutador de MMA, Gabriel Gladiador acaba de fechar uma parceria com o Golden Gloves, tradicional evento americano que há 43 anos promove lutas de boxe nos EUA.

Depois de seis anos sem promover eventos, o Golden Gloves retorna ao cenário das lutas desta vez se aventurando no MMA. “Até o Mike Tyson já lutou aqui e fez várias lutas quando era amador, o que mudou é que agora tem MMA e eu estou responsável pela parte de MMA”, diz.

“O que estou querendo fazer é trazer brasileiros para lutar aqui, para dar mais oportunidades para os atletas”, explica Gabriel. “No próximo dia 28, acontece o Fury Fight In Town que rola na cidade de Holyoke, em Massachussets. Ao todo serão seis lutas de boxe amador, seis de MMA amador e duas lutas de MMA profissional. Estou trazendo o Rodrigo Ruiz para lutar na 70kg e o Marcus Bicudinho para lutar até 77kg. Já estamos com 4 eventos agendados para 2010 e a primeira edição é em março e eu vou lutar também”, conta Gladiador.

Trabalhando com o seu próprio time, o Gabriel Gladiator Team, o faixa-preta se prepara para enfrentar Jerry Spiegel valendo o cinturão meio-pesado do evento em março de 2010. Na mesma edição, os brasileiros Petrus Búfalo e Mauro Xuxa estão cotados para lutar nas categorias dos pesados e médios respectivamente.
