Rafael, Guilerme Mendes at Five Rings JJ

GMA member school Five Rings Jiu-Jitsu will be welcoming very special guests the next weekend.

Fellow GMA members Rafael & Guilherme Mendes will be in Portland, OR, for a two-days seminar on September 22nd-23rd.

They should teach some of the techniques that helped them to become three times world champions.

Five Rings JJ is a Ribeiro JJ Association academy under black belt Tom Oberhue.

World Gi and No-gi champion Rafael Lovato Jr was in Oregon this weekend for a very special occasion.

Our GMA member in Oklahoma was welcomed by GMA member schools Seaside BJJ, Five Rings and Northwest MMA, among others, for a seminar.

Lovato taught his techniques and also did some promotions

Seaside BJJ’s leader Zach Adamson commented on the events: “Seeing my close friends Nik Gift and James Puopolo get promoted today was a rewarding experience! Both of these guys have had a huge impact on my growth in training and as a person. It was great to see so many faces from the Jiu-Jitsu community at the seminar. Big thanks to Professor, Rafael Lovato Jr. for an amazing couple days of training. The Lovato Oregon Jiu Jitsu Association is growing stronger.”

Two GMA schools from Oregon co-hosted a Xande Ribeiro seminar last weekend.

Five Rings JJ and Seaside BJJ got together for providing their students with some top notch techniques from the two times absolute black belt world chapion.

Tom Oberhue, leader of Five Rings BJJ, wrote about the experience on his Blog: “Xande demonstrated the power of clean technique, understanding leverage, and keeping “connections” over and over throughout the afternoon – working escapes from mount bottom, cross-sides, kaza gatami / head-and-arm, and north / south. He flipped the equation and demonstrated how pressure and flow are profoundly important in passing the guard.”

The class was a complete success.

Tom Oberhue is the head coach of the team.

He is a black belt since 2004.
