Long before the people of Brazil fell in love with the trainer and former fighter Adegard Florentino, otherwise known as “Touro Moreno”, the pugilist from Espirito Santo had starred in a documentary by Juliano Enrico, a young director from the same Brazilian state.

In the 50-minute film shot back in 2007 but not yet released in movie theaters, Touro Moreno looks back on the fights from his past, and shows off the ramshackle ring in his backyard, now of value for its part in Brazilian Olympic history. After all, it was there that his sons Esquiva and Yamaguchi Falcão, silver and bronze medalists at London-2012, took their first steps in the sport.

The documentary also features Touro commenting on a bloody beating he took at the hands of vale-tudo myth Valdemar Santana. Check out some excerpts from the movie below. Note how Touro plays Jiu-Jitsu guard and all.

Bem antes do povo brasileiro cair de amores pelo treinador e ex-lutador Adegard Florentino, o popular “Touro Moreno”, o pugilista capixaba já havia virado documentário pelas lentes de Juliano Enrico, jovem cineasta do Espírito Santo.

No filme de 2007, ainda não lançado nos cinemas, Touro Moreno relembra, em 50 minutos, muitas de suas lutas, e apresenta o rudimentar ringue no quintal de casa, hoje de valor olímpico histórico para o Brasil. Afinal, foi ali que seus filhos Esquiva e Yamaguchi Falcão, medalhistas de prata e bronze em Londres-2012, deram alguns de seus primeiros passos no esporte.

After 44 years, since Servílio de Oliveira’s bronze at Mexico—1968, Brazil has returned to the Olympic boxing medals podium. At this year’s Games in London, Brazil’s sweet-scientists could finally beat the drum in jubilation. In all, they netted three medals in the finest campaign of the South American nation’s pugilistic history, with Esquiva Falcão taking silver in the under-75 kg division; Adriana Araujo, bronze at under-60 kg; and Yamaguchi Falcão, Esquiva’s brother, earning bronze in the under-81 kg weight group.

“Olympic boxing in Brazil will change a lot now I’ve got the medal,” Esquiva told Sportv channel, already foreseeing better days for the style in his homeland. “There are a bunch of names in Brazilian boxing who can turn heads at the 2016 Olympics in Rio,” he added.

Após 44 anos, com Servílio de Oliveira, bronze no México-1968, o Brasil voltou a conquistar a medalha olímpica no boxe. Em Londres, a nobre arte brasileira fez a festa. Foram três medalhas, a melhor campanha do pugilismo brasileiro na história, com Esquiva Falcão medalhista de prata no peso 75kg; Adriana Araujo, bronze até 60kg; e Yamaguchi Falcão, irmão de Esquiva, bronze na categoria até 81kg.

“O boxe olímpico no Brasil vai mudar bastante depois que ganhei a medalha”, disse Esquiva ao canal Sportv, já prevendo dias melhores para a modalidade. ”O boxe brasileiro tem vários nomes que podem surpreender nas Olimpíadas de 2016 no Rio″, completou.

Nimble welterweight boxer Everton Lopes dos Santos became the first-ever world amateur boxing champion from Brazil this past Saturday in Baku, Azerbaijan, beating Ukraine’s Denis Berinchyk by a score of 26 to 23.

On Brazil’s Sportv television channel, the fighter from the state of Bahia reminisced about the hurdles he lept on his way to winning the medal – washing cars for a living at 3 reais per vehicle, also selling orange juice the whole day before heading to training. He also addressed his strategy for winning the final.

“We discussed what I should do and agreed that I should go on the attack in the first round and take the lead on the scorecards. Then I just had to control the action in the second and third to keep the lead. It worked,” recounted the champion. Now Everton will be training for the London Games in 2012.

Another Brazilian who shined at the world championship was Esquiva Florentino Falcão, who took bronze at middleweight. Before Saturday, Brazil only held one medal at a amateur boxing world championship, José Rodrigues’s bronze in 1986.

O meio-médio ligeiro Everton Lopes dos Santos tornou-se o primeiro brasileiro campeão mundial de boxe amador, sábado, em Baku, no Azerbaijão, ao vencer o ucraniano Denis Berinchyk por 26 a 23.

Ao canal Sportv, o lutador baiano relembrou os sufocos vividos antes da medalha, quando lavava carros, a 3 reais por veículo, e com a grana tomava apenas um suco de laranja o dia todo e ia treinar. Ele falou ainda da tática vencedora na final.

“Conversamos e combinamos de eu partir para cima no primeiro assalto e abrir uma vantagem confortável no placar. No segundo eu apenas administraria, e no terceiro era para segurar o placar. Deu certo”, contou o campeão. Everton agora continua os treinos para Londres 2012.

Quem também brilhou no Mundial foi Esquiva Florentino Falcão, bronze no peso médio. O Brasil até sábado tinha apenas uma medalha em Mundiais de boxe, com o bronze de José Rodrigues em 1986.
