O faixa-preta da Nova União Fabiano “Babu” Freitas toca um projeto social bacana para a molecada. Mas a academia precisa de duas janelas, piso, tinta e eletricidade. Por isso, Babu convoca todos os amigos e interessados em aprender diversos macetes no chão para um seminário de 9h às 12h, no próximo sábado, 10 de setembro, no QG da Nova União no Rio de Janeiro. O dinheiro arrecadado será voltado para as obras do projeto, onde Babu ensina como voluntário.

Irmão mais velho da fera Marcelino Freitas, Babu é faixa-preta terceiro grau de André Pederneiras, e ensina na Nova União pela manhã há uma década. Seu projeto, instalado no Morro Azul há três anos, é voltado para o ensino de Jiu-Jitsu para crianças da comunidade. Dos 60 alunos do projeto, mais do que a metade também fazem parte do grupo de escoteiros Marquês de Tamandaré, onde Babu é chefe de escoteiro e que também é localizado no Morro Azul.

Para participar no seminário custa 30 reais. Os participantes ganham um certificado de participação e também concorrem para ganhar um kimono de sorteio.

Outreach project Tatame Legal needs two windows, flooring, paint and electricity; and the Scout master who founded it and teaches there as a volunteer is calling on one and all to attend his seminar from 9 am to noon this Saturday, September 10, at Nova União headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, to help raise the funds needed to this end.

Fabiano “Babu” Freitas (previously profiled here on GRACIEMAG.com) is a three-stripe André Pederneiras black belt who has been teaching the morning Jiu-Jitsu class at Nova União for over a decade, and the volunteer project he founded three years ago, Tatame Legal, using Jiu-Jitsu to keep the kids of his Morro Azul community on the right path, has the distinction of being possibly the only such class comprised almost entirely of boy and girl scouts, all of whom belong to the only Scout troop located in a favela in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
