Three-time Jiu-Jitsu World Champion Celso Venícius took to the cage for a bout of MMA last Saturday, May 19 at Max Fight 13, where the Roberto Gordo black belt went three rounds with CheckMat’s Emerson Peixoto before getting the unanimous nod from the judges.

“Fighting three rounds was a new experience for me. Although I totally dominated, my opponent was a warrior; he withstood a lot of submissions and took a lot of punishment,” Celso told GRACIEMAG.com

The teacher at Ryan Gracie academy in São Paulo went on to address the lessons he derived from the fight.

“I had to keep my head on straight to not overexert myself and lose pace. I let some positions get away from me, and I’m going to work on that for my next fight. I can’t afford to let the Jiu-Jitsu positions I had slip. I was called up kind of late and didn’t get to train the way I’d have liked. I promise, next time I’ll do a lot better,” he said.

“Now my striking was kind of bottled up, mainly my hands. In training it flowed a lot better. I thnk that part I’ll manage to iron out as I get more fight experience,” said Venícius, who proffered a pointer for anyone looking to compete in MMA:

“The tip for anyone migrating from Jiu-Jitsu to MMA is to dedicate yourself wholeheartedly and love what you’re doing. Don’t do it because it’s the thing to do or because of the money, because you’ll surely take a big fall.

Tricampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu, Celsinho Venícius esteve em ação no MMA no último sábado, dia 19 de maio. No evento Max Fight 13, o faixa-preta de Roberto Gordo encarou Emerson Peixoto (CheckMat), e depois de dominar os três rounds foi declarado vencedor por decisão unânime dos jurados.

“Foi uma experiência nova lutar os três rounds. Apesar do meu domínio total do combate, meu adversário foi muito guerreiro, resistiu a várias finalizações e aguentou bastante o castigo”, contou Celso ao GRACIEMAG.com.

O professor da academia Ryan Gracie em São Paulo falou sobre o que aprendeu de especial na luta.

“Tive de ficar com a cabeça no lugar para não me exceder e perder meu ritmo na luta. Perdi algumas posições e vou ajustar isso para a próxima luta, não posso perder os golpes de Jiu-Jitsu que eu perdi. Fui chamado meio em cima da hora e não treinei como gostaria. Na próxima prometo vir muito melhor”, comentou.

“Já a minha trocação ficou meio travada, principalmente na parte de mão. Sei que nos treinos fluíram bem melhor, creio que isso eu consiga ir ajustando conforme for pegando experiência de luta”, aposta a fera, que deixou sua dica para o lutador de Jiu-Jitsu que pensa em competir no MMA:

“A dica para quem quer migrar do Jiu-Jitsu para o MMA é se dedicar de peito aberto e amar o que está fazendo. Não vá pela modinha ou pensando em dinheiro, porque com certeza você vai se arrasar!”.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu de Roberto Gordo e professor da academia Ryan Gracie em São Paulo, Celso Venícius está com sua segunda luta profissional de MMA marcada.

O peso leve (até 70kg) enfrenta Emerson Peixoto (CheckMat) no próximo dia 19, no Max Fight, em São Paulo, no luxuoso evento montado no Espaço das Américas, no bairro da Barra Funda.

“Vi uns vídeos dele lutando muay thai e me disseram que ele é faixa-preta da CheckMat lá de Jundiaí, mas não o conheço não. Estava querendo voltar a treinar forte, e cerca de quatro semanas para eu me preparar tá bom. Mas que isso cansa”, ensina Celsinho, que vai treinar muay thai, boxe e o Jiu-Jitsu para a luta, tudo com seus companheiros em São Paulo mesmo.

Problema é visto, não lesões do MMA

O tricampeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu não descarta emendar e aparecer em Long Beach para o próximo Mundial, no fim deste mês.

“Eu estava pensando em vestir o kimono e ir lá sim. Mesmo porque, vou estar no gás e terei tempo para umas semaninhas treinando de kimono. Meu problema é meu visto para os EUA, que está pare vencer. Vou ter de ver meu visto, se conseguir renovar, vou lutar o Mundial sim”, disse Celsinho, sem pensar em machucados e lesões pós-luta.

“É que eu espero que os machucados só aconteçam do lado de lá, não do meu”, diverte-se a fera.

A black belt in Jiu-Jitsu under Roberto Gordo and the head instructor at Ryan Gracie academy in São Paulo, Celso Venícius has the second MMA fight of his career coming up.

The lightweight will be facing Emerson Peixoto of CheckMat academy on the coming 19th at Max Fight event to be held at the lavish Espaço das Américas venue in the Barra Funda neighborhood.

“I saw some videos of him dping Thai boxing and they told me he’s a black belt from CheckMat in Jundiaí, but I’m not familiar with him. I felt the urge to get in some hard training, and around four weeks of preparations is fine for me. More than that will wear me out,” said Celso, who will be putting in Thai boxing, boxing and Jiu-Jitsu training with his crew in São Paulo as he gets ready for the fight.

THE PROBLEM’S THE VISA, NOT THE INJURIES FROM MMA

The three-time Jiu-Jitsu world champion hasn’t discarded the idea of showing up in Long Beach for the World Championship coming up at the end of the month.

“Putting on the gi and heading over there is something I’ve been thinking about, if just because I’ll be in top shape and will have a couple of weeks to train in the gi. The problem is my US visa, which is about to expire. I’ll have to deal with the visa. If I can renew it, I’ll be at the Worlds for sure,” said Celso, without letting any potential post-fight injuries enter the equation.

“It’s that I’m hoping the injuries will be his, not mine,” said the wizard of the mats in amusement.

On his first MMA outing, last December, Celso overcame Adriano Millioni in the first round of their tilt in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro State, of which you can refresh your memory in the following video.
