O lutador gaúcho Guto Campos teve um 2012 satisfatório, segundo sua avaliação. Cuidou da academia, finalizou, na Copa Pódio, a fera Raphael Abi-Rihan, e agora quer terminar o ano montado em mais um prêmio motorizado.

Líder da Guetto Jiu-Jitsu de Porto Alegre, Guto confirmou presença na Invicto Cup, em São Leopoldo, região metropolitana da capital gaúcha. O evento vai premiar com uma moto o campeão absoluto na faixa-preta.

“Não vou abrir mão de disputar um prêmio desses, quer voltar pilotando de São Leopoldo para Porto Alegre”, brincou Guto.

Mas para chegar lá, Guto vai ter de tirar algumas pedras do caminho. Edmilson Conceição, que abocanhou o prêmio na primeira edição do torneio, estará por lá. A fera catarinense Alexandre Ceconi, peso pesado altamente perigoso, também.

Brazilian black belt Guto Campos had a satisfactory 2012, by his own assessment. He took care of his academy, tapped out Raphael Abi-Rihan at Copa Pódio, and now he wants to end the year on the back of a spanking new motor vehicle.

Guto, the head of Porto Alegre academy Guetto Jiu-Jitsu, confirmed that he will be at Invicto Cup in the City of São Leopoldo on December 1 to compete for the motorcycle to be awarded the winner of the black belt absolute division.

“I’m not going to miss out on competing for a prize like that. I want to ride back to Porto Alegre from São Leopoldo on a motorcycle,” said Guto.

But to make it there Guto will have to overcome some obstacles. Edmilson Conceição, who won the open-weight division at the maiden installment of the tournament, will be there. Alexandre Ceconi, a highly dangerous heavyweight, will be there too.

Over a year without competing, ever since returning to Brazil, the black belt Edmilson Conceição did a splendid job on his sport-Jiu-Jitsu comeback. Following a two-year stint living in Abu Dhabi, Edmilson set his sights on the prize money up for grabs in the absolute division at Invicto Cup, a tournament in São Leopoldo, Greater Porto Alegre.

The Southern Brazilian struck gold with the BRL 3,000 prize for winning the open weight contest featuring a different sort of match format. To illustrate, the bouts were of six-minute duration, and purple belts, brown belts and black belts all competed against each other in some of the divisions. The promoters of the event now want to set up a second installment for December 1, and the prize to the winner of the absolute may be a motorcycle.

“Our aim is to at least double the prize money and also award cash prizes for the female and master divisions, as well as to make room for a juvenile division. The athletes are the stars of the show, and they should be treated as such,” said Valério Doca, a representative for 12 Polegadas, the company producing the event.

Some other competitors who earned some extra loot were Alliance representatives Fabio Pulita, a brown belt, and purple belt Daniel Reis, who earned BRL 1,500 and 1,000, respectively. The absolute champions from the white and blue belt groups won BRL 500 and 750, respectively.

“We want to make the South a hotbed for open professional Jiu-Jitsu for competitors from the entire country,” underscored Gabriel Tayeh, one of the founders of the event.

Afastado das competições há mais de um ano, desde que voltou a morar no Brasil, o faixa-preta Edmilson Conceição fez bonito no retorno ao Jiu-Jitsu esportivo. Após viver dois anos em Abu Dhabi, Edmilson caiu dentro de olho na premiação em dinheiro oferecida ao campeão absoluto do Invicto Cup, em São Leopoldo, na grande Porto Alegre.

O gaúcho faturou 3 mil reais no campeonato, que contou com um sistema diferente de disputas. Por exemplo, as lutas foram de seis minutos, e roxas, marrons e pretas lutaram juntos em algumas das divisões. Os organizadores agora querem preparar uma segunda edição no dia 1º de dezembro, e o prêmio para o campeão absoluto pode ser uma motocicleta.

“Nosso objetivo é pelo menos dobrar o prêmio, e premiar com dinheiro também o feminino e o master, além de abrir espaço para a categoria juvenil. Os atletas são as estrelas e devem ser valorizados como tal”, disse Valério Doca, representante da 12 Polegadas, produtora do evento.

Quem também fisgou uma grana foram os atletas da Alliance Fabio Pulita (faixa-marrom) e Daniel Reis (faixa-roxa), que receberam 1,5 mil e 1 mil reais, respectivamente. Campeões absolutos das faixas de base, como brancas e azuis, também receberam prêmios entre 500 e 750 reais.

“Queremos tornar a Região Sul um pólo do Jiu Jitsu profissional aberto a todos os lutadores do país”, destacou Gabriel Tayeh, um dos idealizadores do campeonato.

On the same week the Fifa World Club Cup kicked off, the Asian Super Cup began nearby at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club, this time including No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu matches as there will be at the next World Pro, in April.

So soccer ended up sharing television time with the broadcast of a live Jiu-Jitsu tournament.

Besides the athletes from the capital Abu Dhabi, the cup featured fighters who train in Dubai, like those from the Emirates JJ Center academy led by black belt Rafael Haubert, and other countries around the region. Teams from Jordan, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait, Omman, and Saudi Arabia showcased their technique at the tourney and brought a balance of power to Jiu-Jitsu in the Middle East.

In the brown-and-black belt division, Emirates Team’s Brazilian reigned supreme, in the finals of every category. The standouts were Edmilson Conceição, Oscar Junior, Michel Maia, Samuel Herzog and Fernando Cosendey.

In the white-and-blue belt division, Wessam Mutie (Jordan) had twenty-six matches over the two days and took two gold and two silver medals. Another standout from Jordan was the young Abdullah Nabas, who impressed everyone with his grit in facing much bigger athletes in the absolute, as well as hometown boy Ali Salem, who displayed awesome takedown ability.

At purple, a round of applause for Abu Dhabi’s athletes Taileb Rumait, Mohammad Nasser, Faisal Fahad Al Qitbi, and to Palestine’s Gabriel Tayeh and Jordan’s Haider Hashem. Tayeh, my nephew, just had an MMA fight in Jordan and returned to doing well in Jiu-Jitsu.

Na mesma semana que começava o Mundial Interclubes da Fifa, realizou-se nas depedências do Abu Dhabi Combat Club mais uma edição do Asian Super Cup, desta vez tendo embates também sem kimono como previsto para o próximo World Pro em abril.

O futebol então acabou dividindo espaço na televisão com a transmissão ao vivo do torneio de Jiu-Jitsu.

Além dos atletas da capital Abu Dhabi, a copa contou com lutadores que treinam em Dubai, como da academia Emirates JJ Center comandada pelo faixa-preta Rafael Haubert, e de outros países da região. Equipes da Jordânia, Marrocos, Bahreim, Kuwait, Omã e Arábia Saudita mostraram sua técnica no torneio e trouxe equilibrio de forças para o Jiu-Jitsu no Oriente Médio.

Nas faixas marrom e preta, supremacia dos brasileiros do Emirates Team que decidiram em casa todas categorias. Destacando-se Edmilson Conceição, Oscar Junior, Michel Maia, Samuel Herzog e Fernando Cosendey.

Nas faixas branca e azul, Wessam Mutie (Jordânia) fez 26 lutas nos dois dias e faturou duas medalhas de ouro e duas de prata. Outro destaque da Jordânia foi o jovem Abdullah Nabas, que impressionou a todos pela raça ao enfrentar atletas bem maiores no absoluto, além do local Ali Salem, que exibiu ótimas quedas.

Na roxa, aplauosos para os atletas de Abu Dhabi Taileb Rumait, Mohamad Nasser, Faisal Fahad Al Qitbi, e para o palestino Gabriel Tayeh e o jordaniano Haider Hashem. Tayeh, meu sobrinho, acabara de lutar MMA na Jordânia e voltou a se dar bem.
