As inscrições vão somente até segunda-feira, dia 15 de abril. Já tem muito faixa-preta favorito que confirmou seu nome.

Casos de Romulo Barral (meio-pesado), Rafael Lovato e Diogo Almeida (pesado), Leandro Martins (pluma), Felipe Costa (galo), Isaque Paiva e Ed Ramos (pena), Rodrigo Cavaca, Orlando Sanchez e Kitner Mendonça (pesadíssimo), só para ficar em alguns nomes.

No feminino, por exemplo, já estão dentro Luanna Alzuguir, Michelle Nicolini, Marina Ribeiro, Nádia Melo, Diana Menezes, Talita Treta e Fernanda Mazzelli.

Na faixa-marrom, as feras Paulo e João Miyao estão registrados.

A superluta de abertura do GP dos Pesos Médios, na Copa Pódio de Jiu-Jitsu, teve de ser adiada, devido a uma lesão no joelho do paulista Ed Ramos, representante da Atos Jiu-Jitsu.

Em seu lugar, entra o bicampeão mundial (2009/10) Michael Langhi, que promete endurecer o combate com o mineiro Claudio Caloquinha, representante da Gracie Barra. Dessa forma, a Alliance garante duas vagas no evento: a super luta de abertura e a disputa do GP dos Médios, com o paulista Dimitrius Souza como representante.

“Sentiremos bastante a ausência do Ed, mas estou feliz com a confirmação do Michael, que só não participou do evento anterior porque estava em Miami”, explica Jeferson Maycá, diretor da Pódio.

“De certa forma, devo a Michael Langhi e a Davi Ramos a inspiração para o formato definitivo dos eventos da Copa Pódio. Foi depois de assistir à semifinal entre essas duas feras, no Brasileiro 2011, que decidi mudar o formato do primeiro evento da Copa Pódio, que seria um torneio absoluto. Depois de vê-los em ação, resolvi organizar o GP dos Pesos Leves”, completou.

O torneio rola no dia 21 de julho, a partir das 18h, no Ginásio Hebraica, em Laranjeiras, no Rio de Janeiro, e os ingressos já estão disponíveis nos seguintes pontos de venda:

The supermatch to open the Copa Pódio Middleweight GP had to be postponed due to team Atos ace Ed Ramos injuring his knee.

Stepping in for him is two-time world champion (2009/10) Michael Langhi, who promises to stiffen the test Gracie Barra rep Claudio Caloquinha has in store for him. With the change, Alliance has two berths in the event: the event-opening supermatch and the Middleweight GP contestant Dimitrius Souza.

“We’ll miss having Ed in the event, but I’m pleased we got Michael to step in, as he would have been in the last event had he not been in Miami,” explained Pódio promoter Jeferson Maycá.

“In a way, I owe Michael Langhi and Davi Ramos for inspiring the final format of the Copa Pódio events. It was after watching the semifinal between the two at the 2011 Brazilian Nationals that I decided on the format for the first Copa Pódio event, which would have been an absolute tournament. After watching them in action, I decided to put together the Lightweight GP,” he added.

The tournament will go down starting at 6 pm July 21 at the gymnasium at Clube Hebraíca in Rio de Janeiro, and tickets are already on sale at the following retail outlets:

Copa Pódio Jiu-Jitsu Championship will be holding its Middleweight GP on the evening of July 21 at Clube Hebraica, in the Laranjeiras borough of Rio de Janeiro City’s South Side.

The tournament will feature athletes weighing under 84 kg, as well as supermatches, one of which being between Caloquinha (Gracie Barra BH) and Ed Ramos (Atos), the second- and third-placed competitors from the Lightweight GP, and the other has Guto Campos (Guetho/Atos) taking on Raphael Abi-Rihan (Abi-Rihan/Carlson Gracie).

The following athletes have so far been confirmed for upcoming Middleweight Grand Prix: Leandro Lo (Cícero Costha), Rafael Formiga (Soul Fighters), Vinícius Marinho (GFTeam) and Tarsis Humphreys (Alliance).

“Besides Formiga, we’re tying to bring in an athlete not competing in Brazil, as a treat for the public, but the idea is to bring in someone who isn’t in Rio-São Paulo, to appreciate Jiu-Jitsu from other regions of Brazil. This athlete may be picked by a poll, like we did for the challenger in the supermatch,” reveals Jeferson Maycá, the event’s organizer.

A Copa Pódio de Jiu-Jitsu, que traz o GP dos Médios na noite de 21 de julho, será realizada no ginásio do Clube Hebraica, no bairro Laranjeiras na zona sul carioca.

O torneio contará com dez atletas no peso até 84kg, além de duas superlutas, sendo uma revanche entre Caloquinha (Gracie Barra BH) e Ed Ramos (Atos), segundo e terceiro colocados do GP dos Leves e um desafio entre o gaúcho Guto Campos (Guetho/Atos) e Raphael Abi-Rihan (Abi-Rihan/Carlson Gracie).

No Grand Prix já estão confirmados os atletas Leandro Lo (Cícero Costha), Rafael Formiga (Soul Fighters), Vinícius Marinho (GFTeam) e Tarsis Humphreys (Alliance).

“Além do Formiga, estamos tentando trazer mais um atleta que não esteja lutando no Brasil para brindar o público, mas a ideia é incluir um atleta fora do eixo Rio-São Paulo, de modo a valorizar o Jiu-Jitsu de outras regiões do Brasil. Este atleta poderá ser escolhido por votação, assim como fizemos com o desafiante da Superluta”, revela Jeferson Maycá, organizador do evento.

A partir de janeiro, a organização da Copa Pódio de Jiu-Jitsu inicia a busca por parcerias para a realização do Grand Prix dos Pesos Médios, previsto para junho ou julho no Rio de Janeiro.

“As regras serão as mesmas do Grand Prix dos Pesos Leves e o peso máximo a ser batido pelos atletas será de 83kg sem kimono”, informa Jeferson Maycá, feliz com a repercussão após a primeira Copa Pódio, no último fim de semana.

A boa nova é que Leandro Lo, campeão dos leves, teve o seu pedido aceito pela organização e voltará a representar a equipe da Cícero Costha no evento. O atleta está vendo na competição uma oportunidade de testar seu Jiu-Jitsu numa categoria diferente da que está habituado a competir.

“Outra novidade será o lançamento de um Desafio que levará o nome de uma empresa patrocinadora, onde a academia Guetho, representada pelo atleta Guto Campos, desafiará outra academia a tirá-lo do seu lugar no Pódio, conquistado no Grand Prix na superluta de abertura contra Tio Chico. Esse desafio será realizado antes da luta final”, adianta Jeferson ao GRACIEMAG.com.

A luta de abertura, em 2012, deve ser uma revanche entre a Gracie Barra e a Atos, representadas pelos leves Cláudio Caloquinha e Ed Ramos. “Ainda não sabemos quem vai representar a Atos no GP dos Médios, mas gostei tanto da participação do Ed que resolvi convidá-lo para essa luta casada”, diz Jeferson.

As academias com vagas garantidas no GP dos Pesos Médios, após os pontos no primeiro evento, foram: Cícero Costha, Gracie Barra, Atos, Soul Fighters e Lloyd Irvin.

Starting in January, the promoters of Copa Pódio will be seeking partners in holding the Middleweight Grand Prix, expected for June or July in Rio de Janeiro.

“The rules will be the same as the Lightweight Grand Prix but the weight ceiling will be 83 kilos [183 lbs] without the gi,” reports Jeferson Maycá, who is pleased with the repercussions from the maiden Copa Pódio event last weekend.

The good news is that the lightweight champion, Leandro Lo, had his request to return to the event accepted and will be the representative from Cícero Costha’s team at the competition. The athlete sees the tourney as an opportunity to test his Jiu-Jitsu at a weight class other than the one he is usually in.

“The other news is that there will be a challenge match bearing the name of the sponsor company, where Guetho academy, represented by Guto Campos, will challenge another academy to take their berth at Pódio, which he earned by beating Tio Chico in the Grand Prix-opening super match. This challenge match will take place before the tournament final,” Jeferson told GRACIEMAG.com.

The opener for 2012 will be a rematch between Gracie Barra and Atos, represented by Cláudio Caloquinha and Ed Ramos, respectively. “We’re not sure who will be representing Atos at the Middleweight GP yet, but I liked Ed’s performance, so I decided to call on him for this super match,” said Jeferson.

The academies that earned berths in the Middleweight GP, for the points scored at the first event, were: Cícero Costha, Gracie Barra, Atos, Soul Fighters and Lloyd Irvin.

Leandro Lo arose as the big winner of the Copa Pódio lightweight GP in Porto Alegre this Saturday.

In the first semifinal of the night, Lo (Cicero Costha) opened the scoring by passing the guard of Vinicius Marinho (Soul Fighters/GFTeam). Marinho replaced Augusto Tanquinho in the match and did a good job of it, scoring two points of his own. It was too little too late, though, as Leandro outpointed him by 3 to 2.

The second finalist arose from the match between Claudio Caloquinha (GB BH) and Ed Ramos (Atos), the second semifinal. Caloquinha started out taking a two-advantage point lead, controlled the action, added another one, and went through to the final.

In the grand decider, Lo submitted Caloquinha with a bow-and-arrow choke at 5:14 minutes on the clock, making him the big winner of the event.

The battle for third didn’t end up happening, as an injured Vinicius Marinho was unable to step in against Ed Ramos, who was awarded third place.
