The UFC provided a fun evening for MMA fans this Sunday.

UFC Fight Night 83: Cerrone vs. Cowboy featured 13 fights and lost of thrilling moments.

In the main card, Jiu-Jitsu world champion Augusto Tanquinho Mendes had a bitter UFC debut.

Without being able to take the fight to the ground, Tanquinho was hit with a powerful right by Cody Garbrandt and fell on his back forcing referee Mario Yamasaki to stop the fight with 4:18 on the first round.

In the co-main event, Derek Brunson caught Roan “Jucão” Carneiro with some ground and pound to win via KO also on the first round.

The main event was also short lived, as Donaldo Cerrone quickly took Alex Oliveira to the ground, mounted and locked a triangle to force the tap with 2:33 on the first.

Champion Rafael dos Anjos was just too much for #2 Donald Cerrone. Early in the first round, the Brazilian landed a jab that immediately made Cerrone’s nose bleed. He followed it with a powerful knee to the body and then a kick to the body that sent Cerrone to the fence. Rafael continued the punishment with combinations of punches that Cerrone had little defense to. After a quick clinch, Cerrone tried to take the fight to the ground, but ended on his knees being punched by the champion. Referee Herb Dean stepped in and called the TKO with only 66s. As Dana White and Conor McGregor’s coach said, the Irish man should be RDA’s next opponent. It’s safe to say Conor will have a tough time doing it. “Hey, Mr. McGregor, I’m the owner of this division. If you want to come here, I’ll fight you in Brazil, in Ireland, wherever. You better stay at 145lb. Im here to stay.”

Alistair Overeem vs. Junior dos Santos In the co-main event, Alistair Overeem beat Junior dos Santos by TKO in the 2nd round. After a slow first round when both fighters were very cautious, Overeem landed a beautiful left hook on JDS’s chin. The Brazilian fell to the ground and the referee stopped the fight after Overeem punished Junior with some hammer fists that encountered no defense.

Nate Diaz vs. Michael Johnson

In another great fight this evening, Nate Diaz defeated Michael Johnson in the 155lb division. With great boxing, Diaz landed several jabs with the right hand followed by powerful straight punches with the left to punish Johnson and secure the unanimous decision win. After the fight, as expected, Diaz took the mic and made his plea for a fight against Conor McGregor, the newly-crowned 145lb champion who is allegedely moving up to Diaz’ division: “I’m the real fight, man! Stop taking that easy fights you win at the press conference!”

Um ótimo duelo de pesos leves foi adicionado no card do UFC do dia 19 de abril, em Orlando. O evento, liderado pelo combate entre Fabrício Werdum e Travis Browne, válido pela chance de disputar o cinturão peso pesado do Ultimate, terá o combate entre Edson Barboza e Donaldo “Cowboy” Cerrone.

O combate, confirmado pelo UFC na última segunda-feira, chega cercado de expectativas. Barboza, dono de chutes devastadores, terá pela frente um dos mais perigosos pesos leves da atualidade.

Edson (13v, 1d) chegou invicto ao UFC e conseguiu quatro boas vitórias, até ser parado pelo ex-campeã do WEC Jamie Varner. Edson fez ótimas apresentações no Ultimate, chegando a conquistar o título de melhor nocaute de 2012, com o chute rodado que desmontou Teerry Etim. Após o revés para Varner, o único na carreira, Barboza conseguiu vitórias sobre Lucas Mineiro, hoje no peso-galo, Rafaello Trator, e Danny Castillo.

Já Cerrone (28v, 6d, 1nc) é um caçador de bônus da noite. Com oito prêmios anotados no UFC, sem contar outros cinco do WEC, o feroz Cowboy do Ultimate vem numa missão complicada para 2014: fazer seis lutas e vencer um dos bônus em cada uma. As palavras, do próprio, podem soar arrogantes. Mas o americano, que tem 14 vitórias por finalização, vem de dois bônus seguidos no UFC, um em novembro do ano passado, e outro em seu último combate, quando nocauteou o brasileiro Adriano Martins.

Depois estrear no UFC no início do mês e ficar com o bônus de finalização da noite, o manauara Adriano Martins foi escalado para enfrentar Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, nono colocado no ranking da organização. A luta ocorre na cidade de Chicago, pelo UFC: Henderson x Thomson, em batalha na divisão de pesos leves. O embate foi anunciado através do twitter do UFC.

Com 31 anos, Adriano acumula 25 vitórias e 6 derrotas na carreira e não sabe o que é perder desde setembro de 2011.

Já Cerrone, 30 anos, vem de finalização sobre Evan Dunham vai em busca de sua segunda vitória seguida, já que nos últimos quatro combates, Donald oscilou com duas vitórias e duas derrotas. O Cowboy tem 21 vitórias e 6 derrotas no cartel.
