Durinho sinks armbar on Cascão.

Gilbert “Durinho” Burns will be making his professional MMA debut this evening at Crown Fighting Championships 5, in Saint George, Utah. The current Jiu-Jitsu world champion will be taking on the dangerous José Salgado, who has three wins in his five-fight career. Durinho has prior MMA experience as an amateur, having submitted Christian Fowler with a second-round armbar in July 2011.

The lightweight played a role at Vitor Belfort’s Las Vegas training camp for his successful encounter with Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC 142. Durinho was there to teach, but he also learned a lot, having trained alongside fighters the likes of UFC champions Dominick Cruz and Georges Saint-Pierre, as well as aces like Phil Davis, King Mo, Ray Sefo, Nate Marquardt and others.

“The training was awesome. At Victor’s camp I divided my time between being Jiu-Jitsu coach and getting in a lot of training and learning. I had an awesome week, learned a lot; it was an amazing experience,” said Durinho, who took the time to offer a pointer for anyone planning to start out in MMA.

“For anyone just getting started, the best tip is to train and train hard. I feel that with the UFC heading to Brazil, a sport that was already big will take on even huger proportions. So for anyone getting started, look for a gym with a good teacher, and the secret is to train hard, dedicate yourself every day, and always try learning something new.”

Gilbert Burns, o Durinho, estreia no MMA profissional esta noite, pelo evento Crown Fighting Championship 5, em Saint George, Utah. O atual campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu terá pela frente o perigoso José Salgado, que tem três vitórias em cinco lutas na carreira. Durinho já combateu no MMA amador, em julho de 2011, quando botou em prática o seu Jiu-Jitsu e finalizou Christian Fowler com um armlock, na segunda parcial.

O peso-leve participou do bem-sucedido camp em Las Vegas que deixou Vitor Belfort preparadissimo para finalizar Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, no UFC 142. Durinho ensinou, mas também aprendeu muito ao lado de feras do calibre de Dominck Cruz, Georges St-Pierre, Phill Davis, King Mo, Ray Sefo, Nate Marquardt, entre outros.

“O treino foi ótimo, no camp do Vitor me dividia em treinador de Jiu-Jitsu e ao mesmo tempo treinava e aprendia muito, de tudo. Teve um semana que foi irada, aprendi muito, foi uma experiência tremenda”, contou Durinho, que mesmo concentrado para o duelo desta noite, deu uma dica para quem pretende iniciar no MMA.

“Para quem quer começar a melhor dica é treinar e treinar duro, acho que com o UFC vindo para o Brasil, o esporte que já era grande, vai tomar uma proporção ainda maior. Então, pra quem quer começar, procure alguma academia com um bom professor e o segredo é treinar duro, se dedicar todos os dias e buscar aprender sempre alguma coisa nova.”
