With a quick submission over Guido Caneti at this Saturday’s Bitetti Combat 8 event in São Paulo, Cristiano Marcello now takes off for Jordan, where he will fight at Desert Fighting Championship on the 8th.

For his last fight, at Bitetti Combat, the black belt was expecting to have a rematch with Aleandro “Mandarina” Solano. After agreeing to the bout, though, the Costa Rican fighter ended up pulling out.

“The guy is a wimp chicken who doesn’t follow through with his commitments. He said he’d come, so he should have been here. Or he should have said he didn’t want to first,” he spat.

Com a rápida finalização contra Guido Caneti no Bitetti Combat 8, neste sábado, Cristiano Marcello parte ainda com mais gás para o Desert Fighting Championship, que acontece no próximo dia 8, na Jordânia.

No BC, o faixa-preta teria a aguardada revanche contra Alejandro “Mndarina” Solano.; No entanto, depois de confirmar a participação no desafio, o lutador da Costa Rica acabou desistindo:

“O cara é galo frouxo e não assumiu o compromisso. Se falou, tinha que ter vindo. Falasse que não queria antes”, dispara.

Zaid Mirza has confirmed qualifiers for Abu Dhabi’s World Pro Jiu-Jitsu championship will be held in Jordan. The event will take place November 26 and 27 at Baccaleureate School in Amman, and is open to all practitioners from white to purple belt.

Jordan has become a strategic point, for its location on the Mediterranean sea providing easy access for athletes from Europe and Africa disputing airfare and board for ten days in Abu Dhabi for the event paying out a total of nearly two million dollars in prize money.

But the news doesn’t end there. During the weekend following the qualifiers, the inaugural Desert Fighting Championship will take place, on December 3 at the Orthodox Club, also in Jordan’s capital.

This event will feature around ten MMA fights, mostly involving fighters from Middle Eastern countries.

“We want to appreciate and provide incentive to fighters in the region. There are some very promising fighters and we cannot miss out on providing these new talents with opportunity,” relates Mirza, also reporting he has arranged for the young fighters to get the exposure they deserve: “We are working side by side with Abu Dahbi Sport TV to cover our events live, which is a great achievement for the sport.”

The event was nearly canceled due to the sudden death of Ambassador Azmi Mirza, Zaid’s father, a well-known figure in Middle Eastern politics.

“My father was a great appreciator of Jiu-Jitsu and would surely have insisted that I hold the event. It’s a way of paying tribute to him and honoring the countries he loved so dearly,” said the Cássio Werneck black belt.

praticantes da faixa-branca a roxa. Melhor ainda, com transmissão ao vivo pela Abu Dhabi Sportv. 

A Jordânia acaba sendo um ponto estratégico já que é um país mediterrâneo, fica de fácil acesso para atletas da Europa e do norte da África, que disputarão passagem e estadia de 10 dias em Abu Dhabi para o evento que promete pagar quase 2 milhões de dólares em premiação.

Só que as novidades não param por aí. No final de semana seguinte ocorrerá a primeira edição do Desert Fighting Championship. Dia 3 de dezembro, no Orthodox Club, também na capital jordaniana.

Este evento deverá contar com cerca de 10 lutas de MMA, em sua grande maioria com lutadores oriundos dos países árabes.

“Queremos valorizar e incentivar os lutadores da região. Existem grandes promessas e não poderíamos deixar de oferecer esta oportunidade a esses novos talentos”, relata Mirza.

O evento teve o risco de ser cancelado devido à morte repentina do embaixador Azmi Mirza, pai de Zaid e figura notória no meio político árabe.

“Meu pai era um grande apreciador do Jiu-Jitsu e com certeza faria questão que eu fizesse o evento. É um modo de homenageá-lo e prestigiar o país que ele tanto amava”, destaca o faixa-preta de Cássio Wernek.
