Coming off a win in the United States, Gustavo Ximu prepares to face off against Argentina’s Mathias Lemon at the second edition of the Fatality Arena event, to take place September 11 in Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro state.

“I haven’t stopped training since my fight and I’m raring to go get another win,” says the muay thai and Jiu-Jitsu black belt.

Besides the international matchup, the event features a meet between teams led by Thales Leites and Rafael Capoeira. Another crowd pleaser on tap is the Muay Thai team dispute, with the bout between Luciana Pereira and Aline Sério standing out.

At 43 years of age, Murilo Bustamante is unafraid to face new challenges. Away from the rings and cages of MMA since December 2007, Bustamante rose to the task yet again, just this time for an amateur boxing match.

His opponent at Nobre Arte boxing academy, at the top of Cantagalo hill in Ipanema, Rio de Janeiro, was also-MMA fighter Danilo Moto-Serra. The battle lasted three rounds, where both fighters strung together some good combinations. In the end, by judges’ decision, victory went to former UFC champion Murilo Bustamante, to the delight of the crowd (see the fight in full below).

“I asked Claudinho (Coelho) to set me up with a bout so I’d be more motivated to train. I was training a lot in the gi and needed to go back to boxing. Danilo accepted and for me it was very good, “said Murilo.

Proof the MMA guys in has been investing strongly in boxing, other bouts featured fighters from the mixed style. Vitor Pimenta, of the BTT, showed great technique against Wendel Negão and won the decision. Rafael Macuco also showed great enthusiasm against Baiano and took full advantage with yet another victory for a BTT athlete.

São mais de dez lutas de boxe amador entre atletas dos alunos de Claudinho, na Nobre Arte. Uma bela chance de ver astros como Murilo em ação, já que o ex-campeão do UFC está entre os lutadores de MMA que participam do intercâmbio. Rafael dos Anjos, outro cotado para participar, machucou a costela e não vai mais lutar.

“Há bastante tempo realizo esses intercâmbios. A idéia surgiu da necessidade que meus alunos tinham para colocar seus atletas para lutarem. O intercâmbio nada mais é que um treino forte para quem pratica o boxe e quer lutar”, explica Claudio Coelho.

A Academia Nobre Arte fica localizada no Ciep do Morro do Cantagalo em Ipanema. As lutas começam a partir das 17h. A comunidade está entre as que foram pacificadas pela Polícia Militar.

A total of 14 fighters will participate in amateur boxing matches between Nobre Arte athletes. It is a fine chance to catch a close-up glimpse of UFC stars, since Murilo Bustamante (former middleweight champion) and Rafael dos Anjos are among the MMA fighters to participate in the exchange.

“We’ve been holding these exchanges for a long time. The idea arose from a need that my students had to put their athletes to fight. The exchange is nothing but a tough training session for those who practice boxing and wants to fight,” explains Claudio Coelho.

Nobre Art Academy is located in Ipanema’s Cantagalo favela. The fights start at the 5pm.The community is among those to have been pacified by military police (a city-wide project).
