After the first ever National Pro event in Costa Rica last weekend, the circuit now heads to the USA.

On November 8, the first of four US National Pro events organized by the UAEJJF will take place in Houston, Texas.

The registration is open for citizens of the USA, Mexico and Canada.

The final deadline to register is November 2.

The winners of 13 different open class divisions will win travel packages to compete at the 2016 WPJJC, next April, in Abu Dhabi.

There will also be prizes for teams, as follows:

• 1st place overall –  $700 cash (plus 1 travel package)
• 2nd place overall – $500 cash
• 3rd place overall – $300 cash

O Costa Rica National Pro de Jiu-Jitsu, realizado no último fim de semana, na Costa Rica, distribuiu mais pacotes de viagens para Abu Dhabi aos campeões absolutos na faixa-preta.

Os faixas-pretas Mateo Londono (ATT) e Diego Herzog (Ralph Gracie) foram os campeões dos absolutos leve e pesado, e vão com tudo pago para o WPJJC em 2016.

No resultado por equipes, a Roger Coelho Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ficou em primeiro lugar.

In the end, Mateo Londono (ATT) and Diego Herzog (Ralph Gracie) were the champions and confirmed presence in Abu Dhabi.

In the overall teams competition, Roger Coelho Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu took first place.

The mat set up for the 2015 WPJJC

The 2015 Costa Rica National Pro Jiu-Jitsu championship is around the corner.

The event organized by the UAEJJF is scheduled September 12.

The final deadline for registrations is today, September 7.

Hurry up and register now to compete for a chance to travel to the 2016 WPJJC with all expenses paid for.

The 2016 World Professional Jiu-Jitsu championship kicks off on September 12, 2015 for Jiu-Jitsu athletes who are citizens of any of the central and north-american countries.

On that day, the Costa Rica National Pro Jiu-Jitsu championship takes place at the Costa Rica Tennis Club, in San Jose.

The registration period ends September 5 and no registration will be accepted after that date.

No walk-ins will be accepted.

As usual, travel packages for the main event in Abu Dhabi will be at stake in several divisions.

It may surprise you that ultra-heavyweight black belt Abraham Marte lives in a country that doesn’t have a well-developed BJJ scene. Despite being at most major tournaments and event opportunities, the man lives far from where any of them take place. From October to December of last year, Abraham traveled to three countries, competed in four events, missed out on an opportunity due to visa issues and welcomed the birth of his baby daughter.

I asked Abraham to describe his crazy travels during that time to see what each trip entails. The Dominican relies on many people wherever he goes, even to train and prepare for matches:

“Okay. So I traveled to New York and fought at the NY Pro [on October 25]. After that I stayed a week training at Marcelo Garcia’s, which is always awesome. Leandro Lo and Felipe Preguica happened to be in town so it was extra awesome. Then I flew to California for Masters Worlds, and did that tournament for the first time. (I’m actually turning 35 this year). I was able to pull off a double gold and got to fight one of my idols, Comprido in the division final.

After that I headed to Japan, where I trained a bit, taught class at a couple of spots and fought the Asian Open. After the tournament I stayed in Tokyo for like 3 weeks, and got to work with some of the best MMA fighters in Japan, as i was teaching at Yamamoto Sports Academy. Another awesome thing in Japan, other than the food, was that i met another one of my heroes, Master Yuki Nakai.

After Japan I went back home to Santo Domingo. The day I arrived I got a phone call from Costa Rica inviting me to an 8-man invitational no-gi tournament so two days later I went to Costa Rica and fought at the Shidokan event. I stayed a week training with Fernando Moya to start getting ready for my fight with Keenan at Polaris. Somewhere during this time I got staph, which kept getting worse. Moya traveled back to Dominican Republic with me to keep training. We trained for a couple of days until I had to stop because of the staph. I took care of it and took a two week break. Then on Christmas Eve two friends of mine came up from Brazil to help me train for Polaris. So Diogo Moreno and Gutenberg Pereira got here and spent the end of the year here helping me get ready for Polaris, and kicking my ass twice a day every day until January 8.

Unfortunately for reasons out of my control (my theory is the Charlie Hedbo massacre) my visa and passport did not get mailed back to me in time. Although my visa was issued on the 6, it didn’t arrive in time for me to be able to fly to the UK for the match with Keenan.  I am now very sad but understand that everything happens for a reason, and I tried my hardest to make it. But I am also blessed to be able to spend time with my newborn daughter Cristina, whom was born on the 6 of January. So now im just soaking it all in. I decided not to do Europeans (I’ve never been able to do that one) and stay home with my family, and heal my body and get strong for Pans.”

A quinta edição do XFC no Brasil contou com sete lutas eletrizantes na madrugada deste sábado para domingo. O evento realizado nos estúdios da RedeTV! em Osasco, na Grande São Paulo, consagrou quatro campeões.

O maior destaque ocorreu na luta principal entre o costarriquenho Alejandro ‘Mandarina’ Solano e Junior Assunção. O brasileiro dominou o combate e venceu por decisão unânime.

Antes, o também costarriquenho Alejandro Villalobos finalizou o brasileiro Felipe Douglas no terceiro round e conquistou o título do GP peso-pena. Já na abertura do card principal, o brasileiro Natan Schulte venceu o compatriota Glaucio Eliziario por decisão unânime.

A co-evento principal entre Vanessa Guimarães (Brasil) e Gloria Bravo (Chile), que valia o título do GP Peso Palha Feminino, foi adiada. A atleta chilena passou mal e a organização do Xtreme Fighting Championships preferiu preservar a integridade física de Gloria.

ALEJANDRO SOLANO X JUNIOR ASSUNÇÃO

A luta principal do XFCi 5 reuniu Alejandro Solano, da Costa Rica, e o brasileiro Junior Assunção, uma das lendas do MMA. O combate valeu pelo peso-pena.

O primeiro round começou de forma quente, com Junior dando uma joelhada que derrubou o adversário. No chão, Solano foi castigado com socos. O combate foi truncado, com o brasileiro tentando alguns golpes sem sucesso.

O segundo round foi intenso apenas no início, com Junior imobilizando o adversário. O resto do assalto foi arrastado e com pouca ação.

No último round, a luta foi intensa, com o brasileiro novamente tomando a iniciativa, mas Solano se defendia bem.

No final, os jurados, por unanimidade, deram a vitória a Junior Assunção, mais agressivo e intenso durante todo o confronto.

ALEJANDRO VILLALOBOS X FELIPE DOUGLAS

Na segunda luta do card principal do XFCi 5, um duelo entre juventude e experiência. O brasileiro Felipe Douglas, de 21 anos, encarou o costa-riquenho Alejandro Villalobos, de 35. O combate valeu o cinturão do peso-pena.

Villalobos partiu para cima no início do combate e derrubou o anfitrião no chão, mas Douglas (com cabelo moicano com as cores da bandeira brasileira) conseguiu reagir. No final do primeiro assalto, o brasileiro partiu para cima do oponente.

No segundo round, Felipe começou forte e derrubou o adversário no chão. Alejandro escapou, mas parecia sem fôlego. No último assalto, Villalobos deu um potente chute como ‘cartão de visita’. Douglas parecia desconcentrado e foi derrubado pelo oponente. O experiente lutador da Costa Rica, com paciência, aplicou uma chave de pescoço e ficou com o título do peso Pena.

“Minha estratégia era nocauteá-lo, mas o importante foi a vitória. Obrigado gente”, exaltou o costa-riquenho que foi aplaudido pela torcida brasileira.

NATAN SCHULTE X GLAUCIO ELIZIARIO

A luta entre os brasileiros Natan Schulte e Glaucio Eliziario abriu o card principal com muita emoção. Como o combate valia o título do GP Peso Leve (até 70Kg), os lutadores procuraram a trocação durante os três rounds.

No final do primeiro round, Glaucio derrubou Natan, mas não conseguiu muita vantagem. No segundo assalto, Glaucio ‘Salva Mar’ partiu pra cima de Natan ‘Russo’, com socos e chutes. O adversário, porém, soube se defender bem e derrubou Eliziario, distribuindo cotoveladas e socos.

O terceiro round foi o mais equilibrado. Natan começou encurralando o oponente, distribuindo socos e cotoveladas. Mas ‘Salva Mar’ mostrou um fôlego impressionante e tentou atacar, mas no final do combate Natan ainda mostrou força para alguns golpes, o que valeu o título por decisão dos juízes.

“Esta medalha é muito importante para mim. Só Deus sabe o quanto eu batalhei para este título”, disse aos prantos o atleta de 21 anos.

Over the adrenaline-filled week, Rilion, Roger, Rolles, Igor, Gregor and Kyra Gracie taught and learned from sixty participants from eight different countries, and they braved adventures like white water rafting on the Savegre river.

With an MMA fight coming up on April 29 in Brazil, Gregor made the most of the trip to review lessons with his uncle Rilion and cousins, to his Argentine opponent’s chagrin.

Durante uma semana rica em adrenalina, Rilion, Roger, Rolles, Igor, Gregor e Kyra Gracie ensinaram e aprenderam com 60 participantes de oito países diferentes, e se meteram em aventuras como nas caudalosas correntezas do rio Savegre.

Com luta de MMA marcada para dia 29 de abril no Brasil, Gregor aproveitou a viagem para repassar lições com o tio Rilion e os primos. Pior para o argentino que ele vai enfrentar em Recife.

Projeto que reúne os manos Rolles, Igor e Gregor Gracie, além de Rilion, Roger e Kyra, o Gracie Adventure Camp mescla treinos casca-grossa com muita ação e aventura. O que começou com viagens pelo Rio de Janeiro se expandiu para diversos lugares do mundo. Neste mês de março, o pessoal partiu com tudo para a Costa Rica e não faltou ação, como pode ser visto no vídeo abaixo:

“Essa ideia evoluiu dos camps no Rio. Por que não levá-los ao mundo todo, treinando e desfrutando do que cada país tem de melhor? Asa delta e as praias cariocas. Tirolesa, surfe,  safári de crocodilo na Costa Rica… E por aí vai”, explica Rolles.
