A former UFC champion who retired last year, Vitor Belfort is unlikely to keep his gloves hung for long. After saying goodbye last May, the Phenom manifested his desire to fight again in MMA last December — and now his wish doesn’t look to be too far off.

He is currently in Singapore by invitation of One Championship, Asia’s biggest MMA organization, and has had a good talk with Chatri Sityodtong, One’s CEO. After his departure from the UFC, Belfort said he was studying offers from other outfits, and given that One showed itself to be aggressive regarding international business in the last season, the organization may be an option for the Brazilian.

After Sityodtong took to Twitter to thank Belfort for his visit and tease some big upcoming news, Graciemag reached out to the fighter’s dad. “I’m not aware of the details,” said José Marcos Belfort, “but that’s where the money is. The organization is doing really well, and I’m rooting for him to be reaching a deal over there.”

Ex-campeão do UFC aposentado dos cages em 2018, Vitor Belfort não deve manter as luvas penduradas por muito tempo. Depois de se despedir em maio do ano passado, o “Fenômeno” voltou a se pronunciar em meados de dezembro, expondo sua vontade de voltar ao MMA, e pode ser que isto esteja se aproximando.

A fera está em Cingapura, a convite do One Championship, que é o maior evento de MMA da Ásia, e já teve uma boa conversa com Chatri Sityodtong, CEO do evento. Após de desligar do UFC, Belfort disse que  estava estudando propostas de outras organizações, e como o One se mostrou agressivo nos negócios internacionais na última temporada, pode ser que a organização seja uma opção para Belfort.

“Obrigado Vitor Belfort por passar o dia aqui no One Championship”, disse Sityodtong no Twitter. “Terei ele comigo na beira do cage como meu convidado. Fiquem ligados para grandes notícias!”

Mas apesar das especulações, será que Belfort terá mesmo um novo caminho em terras asiáticas? GRACIEMAG conversou com José Marcos Belfort, pai de Vitor, e este projetou coisas grandes vindo do One Championship.

“Não estou sabendo de detalhes”, disse José Marcos, “Mas é lá onde está o dinheiro. O evento está bombando e estou torcendo para ele estar se acertando por lá”

Renzo Gracie e Kazushi Sakuraba vão voltar a se enfrentar de luvas quase 18 anos depois da clássica batalha entre ambos no Pride FC, informou o repórter Jake Nichols, do site TheBodyLock.

Aos 51 anos, Renzo foi contratato pelo One FC e, como ele disse ao GRACIEMAG.com, não vê a hora de sair na mão com o famoso ídolo japonês, que o finalizou numa chave kimura no Pride 10, em 2000. “A luta será nas regras do MMA, ou tu acha que ando relaxando?”, brincou o Gracie.

Em evento do One FC em Boracay, Filipinas, Renzo confirmou que assinou com a organização asiática. Chatri Sityodtong, presidente e CEO da One Championship, disse que o Gracie vai mesmo competir contra Kazushi Sakuraba, de 48 anos, em sua estreia com a organização.

“Não sei se o Sakuraba está pronto e por isso a data da nossa luta ainda não foi definida. De repente faço uma outra luta antes de enfrentar o japonês”, ventilou Renzo.

Nas Filipinas, Renzo falou de sua extensa história com o UFC, e disse acreditar que o One Championship poderá ser a principal organização mista de artes marciais do mundo no futuro, simplesmente “porque eles estão fazendo o que é certo”. Quanto ao UFC, Renzo afirmou: “O UFC se perdeu pelo caminho, pois deixou o dinheiro mandar. Eles hoje não têm alma.”

Renzo completou o raciocínio, para o GRACIEMAG.com: “Quando uma organização não compreende o que é a arte marcial, perde o fio da meada. E foi o que aconteceu com o UFC. Eles perderam a essência ao achar que aquilo é apenas negócio e que o dinheiro comanda. Aqui não tem puta não, meu irmão. Somos lutadores, homens e mulheres de moral que passam a vida procurando fazer o que é certo e não se vendem. Isso eles não entendem.”

Em 2014, Renzo e Saku lutaram por 20 minutos numa disputa de Jiu-Jitsu sem kimono, no evento Metamoris, valendo apenas a finalização. A luta terminou em empate.

Renzo Gracie and Kazushi Sakuraba will meet again almost 18 years after their classic fight in Pride FC, TheBodyLock’s Jake Nichols reports.

At 51, Renzo has signed with ONE FC and, as he tells Graciemag, he can’t wait to throw down with the Japanese legend who submitted him via kimura at Pride 10 back in 2000. “The fight will be under MMA rules,” he said. “Do you think I’m getting soft or something?”

At the ONE Championship Elite Retreat in the Philippines, Gracie confirmed that he has signed with the Asian organization. ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong followed up by saying that Gracie will fight 48-year-old Sakuraba in his debut.

“I don’t know whether Sakuraba is ready, and so the date hasn’t been defined,” Gracie told us. “Maybe I’ll have one fight before fighting him.”

Gracie said he believes ONE will become the leading MMA organization because they’re doing the right thing. Later he told us: “When an organization doesn’t understand what martial arts are, they lose the thread. And that’s what happened to the UFC. They lost the essence as they came to believe that it’s all business and that money rules. We are not whores. We are fighters — men and women with morals, who spend their lives striving to do what is right and don’t sell themselves. That they don’t understand.”

In 2014, Gracie and the “Gracie Hunter” fought for 20 minutes under no-gi BJJ rules at a Metamoris show, with a submission being the only way to claim a win. The fight was a draw.

One of those kids was Hsien “Milo” Hwee, an eighteen-year-old who is the student of the month for Feb. 2014. A second-year college student in an IT program, he trains Muay Thai at Evolve. Campeão brasileiro sem kimono,Herbert Burns assinou um contrato de cinco lutas com o One FC, evento de MMA na Ásia. O contato com a organização aconteceu através de Chatri Sityodtong, dono da academia Evolve MMA.

Chatri contratou Herbert para afiar o chão dos atletas de sua academia e aproveitou para indicar o faixa-preta de 25 anos para o One FC. O irmão de Gilbert Durinho vai fazer sua estreia no dia 6 de dezembro em Manila, nas Filipinas. Ele não tem adversário definido.

“Adoro me testar, por isso estou contente com a oportunidade. Agora estou no mesmo time de Rafael dos Anjos e Shinya Aoki”, disse Herbert, que já ajudou Alexander Gustafsson, entre outros.

Para aplicar o Jiu-Jitsu no MMA, ele tem um segredo:

“Uma vez no chão, procuro usar a movimentação, o giro, que é uma das chaves do Jiu-Jitsu. Sempre tento me antecipar ao meu oponente deixando o cara um passo atrás. Tenho um Jiu-Jitsu bem versátil, para frente. Dou queda, jogo por cima e por baixo, e sempre viso à finalização, que é a essência do Jiu-Jitsu. O importante é a movimentação contínua, pois ela abre espaços para finalizar e também para pontuar. Para mim, movimentação é o principal na luta. O macete para uma boa movimentação é fazer muito drills, para as posições saírem no automático. Sempre gostei de treino duro, aquele que você sai ralado. Com um treino assim você evolui e deixa as posições no piloto automático”, encerra Burns.

O treino do jornalista com o professor Rafael Correa “Gordinho” deu-se durante a coletiva de imprensa de inauguração da terceira academia da marca Evolve MMA.

Intitulando-se a maior academia de MMA da Ásia e desenhada por uma conceituada firma de arquitetura da Cingapura, a academia coordenada por Gordinho e seu sócio Chatri Sityodtong promete mais: abrir uma filial com os mesmos padrões no Rio de Janeiro, no Largo da Barra da Tijuca.

“Acredito que esta terceira academia nossa, a Evolve Far East, é provavelmente a maior academia de Jiu-Jitsu do mundo. Mas o que importa é que estamos amarradões, já temos 180 alunos e estamos dando um grande passo aqui num grande mercado, que é o asiático. A coletiva foi para explicar melhor o que é o MMA e o Jiu-Jitsu para o pessoal daqui, e repercutiu até nos jornais ‘The Guardian’, da Inglaterra, e no ‘NY Times'”, disse Gordinho ao GRACIEMAG.com.

The reporter’s training session with Rafael “Gordinho” Correa took place during a press conference for the new Evolve MMA academy.

Labeled the biggest MMA academy in Asia and designed by a renowned Singaporean architectural firm, the academy headed by Gordinho and his partner Chatri Sityodtong promises more: to open a branch of the same standard in Rio de Janeiro, in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood.

“Evolve Far East is our third gym, and I believe it’s the biggest Jiu-Jitsu academy in the world. We’ve already got 180 students and can’t be happier”, said Gordinho to GRACIEMAG.com.
