The IBJJF has released the full schedule and brackets for the 2014 IBJJF American Nationals Jiu-Jitsu Championship set for Sept. 6-7 in both gi and no-gi.

The event will take place on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills located at 1000 East Victoria St. Carson, CA 90747.

All the action begins at 9:30 a.m. with male adult blue belts rooster to medium-heavy divisions.

The no-gi portion will be on Sunday only.

The 2014 Pan Kids took place at the Cal State Dominguez Hills University, this Sunday, Feb. 16th in Carson, CA. The most important tournament of the year for children had over 800 “little” athletes competing from ages 4 to 15 years old, in all belts between Grey and Green.

Starting at such a young age, the kids showed up refined Jiu-Jitsu technique. With an impressive variation of moves in their fighting armory, the young ones were not intimidated by the crowed of spectators and presented an amazing spectacle of submissions, sweeps, guard passes, and more.

Atos Jiu-Jitsu (281 points) ended up getting the highest place in the podium, followed by Gracie Barra (241 points) in 2nd place and Checkmat (231 points) in 3rd place.

2013 IBJJF Pan Kids was a Jiu-Jitsu celebration

The 2014 IBJJF Pan Kids is this weekend on Sunday, Feb. 16. The prestigious event gives the opportunity for youth athletes to claim the same titles as their adult counterparts.

The action starts at 9:00 a.m. in the gymnasium on the campus of California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA. The IBJJF has released both the schedule and the brackets with order of the fights down to the minute. Keep track of the brackets as they happen.

For the kids, the IBJJF Pan Kids Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a top competition. A gold medal at the tournament that mimics the prestigious Pan American Championship for adults is worth bragging about.

The registration is now open for the young divisions from mighty-mite 1 for those born in 2010 to teen 3 for those born in 1999. The ranks extend from gray belts to green belts and offer various weight and age groups for each child to find his or her equivalent opponents.

The entry fee is $77 for each competitor and registration will remain open until Feb. 7 or until capacity is reached.

Traveling to California is a must for this event as the venue is at California State University Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA.

Tomorrow begins the 2013 IBJJF American Nationals. The gi divisions begin tomorrow, Saturday, at 9:00 a.m. sharp as the blue belt male adults take to the mat. Sunday will mark the no-gi divisions and white belt gi divisions and the schedule will tell you exactly when your division will start.

The IBJJF has plans to move the American National Championship to a new city outside of Southern California. This will be the last year the event will be held in the CSU Dominguez Hills gymnasium but there’s good news.

There is still time to register for the event on September 8 and 9. Divisions are available for both gi and no-gi with some big black belt names already on the athlete list.

The deadline is Friday, August 30 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Prices are set for either the gi division alone or both gi and no-gi.

Don’t miss out on the last chance to compete in the Nationals in Southern California, especially if you reside in the area and don’t have to pay travel expenses to compete.

The IBJJF American National Jiu-Jitsu Championship is a two-day event for both gi and no-gi divisions on September 7-8. Located at the California State University Dominguez Hills campus, it is a historical Jiu-Jitsu venue as the Pan American Championship ran in the gymnasium until the number of participants forced IBJJF to move the event to UC Irvine.

American Nationals has been an annual championship since 2002 with the no-gi portion added in 2008. In fact, at the first edition the brown belt adult absolute division was closed out by Rener and Ryron Gracie.

Competing in this event gives you the chance to add one more title on your resume as a national champion and the no-gi division will prepare you for the No-Gi Pan Ams and No-Gi Worlds coming up in the next two months.

CSU Dominguez Hills is located at 1000 E. Victoria Street Carson, CA 90747. Divisions are open from white to black, juvenile to senior 2. Already signed up are some black belts Oliver Geddes, Rodrigo Freitas, JT Torres, James Puopolo, Marcos Torregrosa, Brandon Mullins and more.

The lower belts have already confirmed some of the best in their ranks with athletes who have medaled at both the Worlds and the Pan Ams so the level of competition is fierce.

Registration is open until Friday, August 30 at the cost of $99 for just the gi division or $170 for both gi and no-gi.

The sport Jiu-Jitsu panorama for September is such that even the coolest-tempered practitioners will get pumped up with adrenaline. This Saturday Toronto BJJ academy will be defending its title of best team at Canada’s Montreal Open. Then on the 8th and 9th, next weekend, there’ll be the Floripa Open, where the mat wizards from Brazil’s South will gather for some healthy competition; while Carson, California, will be the destination for stalwart gentle artists from across the United States who will compete at the American Nationals.

On the 15th the gi-wearing road show will set up shop in Atlanta, for the new IBJJF-promoted Atlanta International Open.

And the following weekend, on the 22nd, Rio de Janeiro will be the stage for the country’s top teams to lock horns to determine which academy will reign supreme at the Brazilian Team Nationals. And to wrap up the month, the No-Gi Pan will take the excitement to New York on the 29th.

So get out your gi, sign up, and go to town at an IBJJF competition.

O panorama do Jiu-Jitsu competitivo em setembro é de deixar o praticante mais frio totalmente cheio de adrenalina. Neste sábado, a escola  Toronto BJJ defende o título de melhor equipe do Montreal Open, no Canadá. Depois, no próximo fim de semana, dias 8 e 9, tem o Floripa Open, que deve reunir grandes feras do Jiu-Jitsu no sul do Brasil, enquanto na Califórnia os melhores lutadores dos EUA disputam o ouro no American National, em Carson.

No dia 15, o circo da arte suave desembarca em Atlanta, no novo torneio da IBJJF, o Atlanta International Open.

No Rio de Janeiro, são esperados conferes quentes entre os melhores times do Jiu-Jitsu, no tradicional Brasileiro de Equipes, no dia 22. Para encerrar, dia 29 tem o Pan No Gi em Nova York.

Caio “Davi” Terra surpreendeu mais uma vez. Contra Bruno “Golias” Bastos, o peso-galo de Cesar Gracie conseguiu a segunda medalha de ouro numa divisão do absoluto, no último sábado, no Americano da IBJJF.

Caio havia vencido o absoluto do Las Vegas Open, e Bruno o absoluto do Houston Open.

No Campeonato Americano de Jiu-Jitsu (American Nationals), Caio começou a campanha vitoriosa contra Rodrigo Simões (Gracie Barra Manhattan Beach).

“Nós dois puxamos para a guarda, eu fui para cima e acabei pegando as costas dele”, conta o bicampeão mundial dos galos.

Depois de os dois rolarem para fora, Terra raspou, voou num triângulo voador e finalizou.

Na semifinal, Terra encarou Marcelo Mafra (CheckMat). “Raspei, peguei as costas e ele me raspou”, resumiu Caio, feliz com a vitória por 6 a 2, apesar da chave de braço que escapou.

Na final, Terra enfrentou o superpesado Bruno (Nova União). Por cima, Bruno tentava passar, enquanto Caio tentou a chave omoplata em três ocasiões.

“Eu abri a guarda um pouquinho, para que algo acontecesse, mas ele voltava para minha guarda fechada”, analisou o campeão, após vencer por pontos.

“Bruno foi um cavalheiro, mostrou muita esportividade e foi maneiro. Sua base é excelente. Ele sabe pesar bem, e parece ainda mais pesado do que é, em cima do tatame”, elogiou.

Para chegar até a final, Bastos também fez duas lutas: raspou e venceu Rodrigo Ranieri (Brasa) e venceu Leandro Santos (Ribeiro JJ) numa “luta de judô”, segundo Bruno.
Sobre a final, Bruno foi sincero: “Tentei esmagá-lo, mas eram tantas pernas voando para cima de mim. Preciso treinar mais com caras pequenos, Caio é muito flexível”.

Gustavo Dantas on podium at Las Vegas Open

Following placing second at the Las Vegas Open and third at the American No-Gi Nationals, team Nova União, led by GMA Gustavo Dantas, is heading full steam into this weekend’s American Nationals in Carson, California.

“We’re taking forty competitors this time,” warns the black belt, who predicts a close battle:

“I believe first place will be between Gracie Barra and BJJ Revolution, who have a lot of athletes. But third place will be an even closer contest between Nova União, Ribeiro Brothers and Gracie Humaitá,” he wagers.

The goal is to make it onto the winners’ stand and to have another solid campaign in a big IBJJF tournament.

“Our team aims to make it back onto the podium at the Worlds and the Pan. At this year’s Pan, we won the juvenile division, just as we did at the No-Gi Worlds in 2009. But our goal is to take first in the adult division again, like we did in 1997. We know it will be a long road, but we’re fighting for it,” he says in closing.

Gustavo Dantas no pódio do Las Vegas Open

Depois do segundo posto no Las Vegas Open e o terceiro lugar no Americano sem kimono, o time da Nova União comandado pelo GMA Gustavo Dantas parte com tudo para buscar mais um pódio, dessa vez no Americano de Jiu-Jitsu (American National), que acontece neste fim de semana, em Carson, Califórnia.

“Estamos levando 40 competidores dessa vez”, avisa o faixa-preta, que prevê uma disputa bem acirrada:

“Acredito que o primeiro posto vai ser disputado entre a Gracie Barra e a BJJ Revolution, que vão com muitos atletas. Mas a disputa do terceiro lugar vai ser bem acirrada entre a Nova União, Ribeiro Brothers e Gracie Humaitá”, aposta.

A meta é subir novamente ao pódio e estender as boas campanhas aos eventos principais da IBJJF.

“Nossa equipe tem o objetivo de voltar ao pódio no Mundial e no Pan. No Pan deste ano, vencemos no juvenil, resultado igual ao do Mundial sem kimono, em 2009. Mas nossa meta é ficar em primeiro no adulto novamente, como fizemos em 1997. Sabemos que é uma longa estrada, mas estaremos lutando”, encerra.
