Cearense de Quixadá, Rony Jason já tem data marcada para voltar ao octagon. O peso-pena campeão do “TUF” vai enfrentar o inglês Mike Wilkinson no dia 8 de junho, na edição do UFC que deve rolar no ginásio Paulo Sarasate, em Fortaleza.

Jason vem de sete vitórias seguidas, duas no Ultimate (contra Godofredo Pepey e Sam Sicilia). Wilkinson, que participou do “TUF Austrália vs Reino Unido”, está invicto na carreira, com oito triunfos em oito lutas.

Rony disputou diversos campeonatos de Jiu-Jitsu no Ceará, sempre em grandes batalhas. Abaixo você confere o duelo de Jason, que na época era chamado de Rony Mariano, contra Andrezinho Nogueira, no Campeonato Cearense de 2008.

O UFC marcado para 8 de junho vai levar  para o Nordeste alguns dos maiores nomes do esporte, com as finais do “TUF Brasil 2”, em Fortaleza. Hoje, mais uma luta foi marcada, com Caio Magalhães contra Karlos Vemola.

O faixa-preta cearense entrou em contato com o GracieMag.com: “Estou felizão, vou lutar em casa e quero mostrar meu Jiu-Jitsu”, disse o atleta da Nova União, já confirmando que vai levar a luta para sua praia.

“Sou do Jiu-Jitsu, e tenho de mostrar logo minhas habilidades no Ultimate, chegou a hora e vai ser no meu quintal. Vou chamar minha família, amigos e companheiros de treino. Será épico, vou fazer o lanche da tarde em casa e de noite vou estar lutando no UFC, no ginásio Paulo Sarasate”, brincou.

Além do combate entre Caio e o checo Vemola, o “TUF Brasil 2” Finale vai trazer a decisão do reality show, que coloca frente a frente os dois técnicos, os pesos pesados Rodrigo Minotauro e Fabrício Werdum.

The ghost of training injuries has already begun to haunt the UFC in 2013. This Saturday, January 5, the promotion announced that George Roop suffered an injury and has been dropped from next Saturday’s UFC event in São Paulo. Stepping in as a last-minute replacement against Yuri Marajó is Pedro Nobre.

Pedro recently won the Bitetti Combat flyweight GP and holds a record of 14-1-2. Marajó, who will be making his first appearance as a flyweight, is 28-4.

This is the fourth change to the event. The first one scratched from the card was Tiago Bodão, who was subsequently replaced by Caio Magalhães, who himself was injured and had to pull out. The back-to-back injuries led to the Michael Kuiper being moved to UFC on Fox 6, where he will face off with Buddy Roberts.

Another fighter to see a change of opponent was Edson Barboza, whose initial pairing with Justin Salas was changed, and now he will be squaring off with young Brazilian Lucas Mineiro.

UFC on FX 7 is headlined by Vitor Belfort and Michael Bisping, the co-main event being Daniel Sarafian’s UFC debut against CB Dollaway.

A bruxa segue solta e distribuindo vassouradas no Ultimate em 2013. Neste sábado, 5 de janeiro, a organização anunciou que o americano George Roop se machucou durante os treinos e está fora do UFC São Paulo, que rola no próximo sábado, no ginásio do Ibirapuera. Em seu lugar entra o carioca Pedro Nobre, que vai enfrentar o paraense Iuri Marajó.

Pedrinho venceu o GP dos moscas do Bitetti Combat e tem um cartel de 14 vitórias, dois empates e uma derrota na carreira. Já Marajó, que estreia no peso mosca, conta com 28 triunfos e quatro derrotas.

Esta é a quarta mudança no card do evento paulista. Primeiro a deixar o evento foi Tiago Bodão, que deu lugar a Caio Magalhães, que também se lesionou. Com o ocorrido a luta de Michael Kuiper foi adiada para o UFC on FOX 6, em que o holandês encara Buddy Roberts. Quem também deixou o card foi Justin Salas, substituído por Lucas Mineiro, que pega Edson Barboza.

O UFC on FX 7 traz como luta principal o brasileiro Vitor Belfort contra o inglês Michael Bisping, além da estreia de Daniel Sarafian no Ultimate contra o americano CB Dollaway.

O faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu Caio Magalhães está fora do UFC São Paulo, ou UFC on FX 7, marcado para 19 de janeiro, no Ginásio do Ibirapuera, em São Paulo. O cearense sofreu uma lesão na altura da virilha e não vai encarar Michael Kuiper. “Estou muito triste em deixar o card do UFC SP! Infelizmente, me machuquei defendendo um single leg. Senti a virilha”, postou a fera no Twitter.

Guilherme Santos, treinador de Caio no Ceará, explicou o que ocorreu. “Ele treinou e sentiu uma dor forte no abdómen e na pélvis, aí o André Pederneiras levou ele ao médico, que fez uma ressonância. O resultado sai em cinco dias, mas ele foi vetado para o UFC São Paulo. A contusão é parecida com a que o jogador de futebol sofre, tipo uma distensão”, contou.

Caio já substituia Thiago Bodão, que também sofreu uma lesão. Com a infelicidade do brasileiro, o holandês foi deslocado para o UFC on FOX 6, que rola no dia 26 de janeiro, em Chicago, nos Estados Unidos. Kuiper vai enfrentar o americano Buddy Roberts, que venceu o próprio Caio Magalhães no UFC on Fx 3, em junho.

Jiu-Jitsu black belt Caio Magalhães is off the card for UFC on FX 7, coming up January 19 in São Paulo, Brazil. Magalhães suffered a groin injury and will no longer be facing Michael Kuiper. “I’m really bummed that I had to pull out of the card for the UFC in São Paulo. Unfortunately, I got hurt when defending a single-leg. I suffered a groin injury,” the Nova União representative said via his Twitter account.

Gilherme Santos, Caio’s coach in his home state of Ceará, explained to GRACIEMAG.com what happened: “He was training and felt great pain in his abdomen and pelvis, so André Pederneiras took him to the doctor for an MRI. The result will be available in five days, but he was forbidden from fighting at the UFC in São Paulo. It’s the kind of injury soccer players get, a sort of distension.”

Caio had stepped in to replace Thiago Bodão, who himself was rendered not cageworthy due to injury. With the misfortune of a second Brazilian opponent, Kuiper has been moved to the January 26 UFC on Fox 6 card in Chicago, USA, where he will take on Buddy Roberts, who outfought Caio Magalhães at UFC on FX 3 last June.

Caio Magalhães is yet another of the Brazilians set to do battle in the octagon at the Jan. 19 UFC on FX 7 show at Ginásio do Ibirapuera in São Paulo, Brazil.

Magalhães was preparing to face the likes of Rodolfo Vieira, Xande Ribeiro, Alexandre Ceconi and Léo Nogueira in the gi at Jiu-Jitsu championship Copa Pódio when he got the call-up to replace his injured countryman, Thiago Bodão, on the UFC card.

Riding the wake of his training for the gi championship, Magalhães said he’s ready to put on a Jiu-Jitsu clinic against the Dutchman Michael Kuiper. Check out what else he had to tell GRACIEMAG.com during a conversation at Nova União headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.

GRACIEMAG.com: What was your reaction to the news that you were on the card for the UFC in São Paulo?

CAIO MAGALHÃES: The UFC contacted Dedé [André Pederneiras], and he called my master Guilherme Santos to let me know about the fight. I was already full-on training for Copa Pódio but my priority has always been the UFC. I was helping my friends out in Ceará State and was doing my training. So I wouldn’t say I was taken by surprise, exactly, I just wasn’t expecting to fight so soon. I thought I’d be fighting in February or March at the latest. I was really happy with the news. This way I could do my training camp here at Nova União, in Rio de Janeiro. I’ve been doing a good job of preparing here. The camp’s been going great. I’ll be ready to put on a show at home on the 19th.

How’s your weight cut going? You were set to compete at 215 pounds at Copa Pódio, and now you have to hit 185 pounds?

I’ve always weighed around [227, 229 pounds]. But I’ll lose it, no problem. My weight cut’s going fine. It’s happening naturally with the MMA training. Training here is going strong. We go three, four times a day in physical conditioning, wrestling and boxing. So I’ll keep up the pace, and I intend to make weight and be real strong.

What’s your take on your opponent, Michael Kuiper? How do you plan to deal with his game?

He’s a striker, likes to bang. He’s also a black belt in judo but doesn’t use it much. He’s going to strike with me. I’m going to do my game: close the distance through striking, take him down and put my Jiu-Jitsu to use.

The puzzle with the image of the man who will be replacing Caio Magalhães in the Copa Pódio Heavyweight GP has set Jiu-Jitsu fans abuzz on social networking websites.

The name of the chosen fighter is being kept under lock and key by the event’s promoters, who today issued a challenge to see if someone can guess the submission wizard’s name. The first 20 to nail it here in the GRACIEMAG.com comments section will be awarded a ticket to the arena or free access to the pay-per-view.

“It was a thankless task, finding a substitute for Caio,” said Jeferson Maycá, president of the event. “The group was set with some of the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu these days, and finding a better athlete would be impossible; an inferior one would be acceptable; and an equally good one wouldn’t add any excitement to the event. What’s more, the priority given to athletes from academies other than the ones already included limited our options.

“Following advice from my friend Marcelo Dunlop, the editor of GRACIEMAG, I went after a sharpshooter, a strong competitor who goes to war without fear of losing, without fear of tarnishing his name, and at the same time, one who would go in there hungry to win it. I think the public is going to like our choice,” says Maycá.

O nome do lutador escolhido está sendo guardado a sete chaves pela organização do evento, e hoje a Copa Pódio lançou um desafio para ver quem acerta o nome do casca-grossa. Os 20 primeiros que cravarem o nome do lutador escolhido, aqui no espaço de comentários do GRACIEMAG.com, vão ganhar, cada um, um ingresso de arquibancada ou um acesso grátis ao pay-per-view.

“A tarefa de substituir o Caio foi ingrata demais”, explica Jeferson Maycá, diretor do evento. “O grupo está fechado com alguns dos maiores nomes do Jiu-Jitsu na atualidade, e escalar um atleta melhor seria impossível; um atleta inferior seria inaceitável; e, um do mesmo nível, não acrescentaria nenhuma emoção ao evento. Além disso, a preferência por atletas de outras academias que não as já escolhidas limitou ainda mais as nossas opções.

“Seguindo o conselho do meu amigo Marcelo Dunlop, editor do GRACIEMAG, fui atrás de um franco-atirador, um competidor forte que entrasse na guerra sem medo de perder, sem medo de expor o seu nome e que, ao mesmo tempo, entrasse com uma sede imensa de vitória. Acredito que o público vai gostar da nossa escolha”, diz Maycá.

“Já vinha treinando pesado para a Copa Pódio. A diferença é que vou tirar o kimono, mas a estratégia vai ser no chão.
