Victor Estima wins British Open with 800-athlete lineup

This weekend in England the third installment of the British Open, organized by our GMA Bráulio “Carcará” Estima, took place.

The Gracie Barra teacher counted more than 800 fighters and sent in a review of the biggest news from the tourney.

“There were over 800 signed up, a record for Jiu-Jitsu competitions here in the United Kingdom. Even with so many athletes, the competition ended earlier than expected,” reported Bráulio.

British punctuality was not the only thing the Brazilian was celebrating: “The standout at black belt was (my brother) Victor Estima, winning the absolute by submitting all his opponents. He won trophy in memory of our great friend Steve fan, one of the organizers of the first events, who passed away early this year. The absolute final was against one of the sport’s sensations here, Michael Russell. Victor ended up getting the submission, a tight footlock 2:30 minutes into the fight. Stuart Gwilt won the absolute championship, then his weight group too.”

Carcará was pleased with how successful the tournament was, while he recovers from back surgery: “I’m really glad our sport is taking another step forward in its evolution.”

Rolou na Inglaterra, nesse fim de semana, a terceira edição do British Open de Jiu-Jitsu, organizado pelo nosso GMA e dublê de promotor Bráuilo “Carcará” Estima.

O professor da Gracie Barra contou mais de 800 lutadores, e mandou de bate-pronto as melhores notícias do torneio.

“Foram mais de 800 inscritos, um recorde em campeonatos de Jiu-Jitsu aqui no Reino Unido. Mesmo com tantos atletas, a competição terminou antes do horário previsto”, contou Bráulio.

A pontualidade britânica não foi a única coisa a comemorar: “O destaque na faixa-preta foi (meu irmão) Victor Estima, campeão absoluto finalizando todas. Ele ganhou o troféu em memória do nosso grande amigo Steve Fan, um dos organizadores das primeiras edições que faleceu no começo do ano. A final do absoluto foi contra uma das sensações do esporte aqui, o local Michael Russell. Victor acabou finalizando, numa justa chave de pé aos 2min30 sde luta. Stuart Gwilt foi o campeão absoluto na marrom, depois de ganhar seu peso também”.

O sucesso do torneio deixou Carcará feliz da vida, ele que se recupera de uma operação nas costas: “Fico muito feliz de estar dando mais um passo à frente na evolução e divulgação do nosso esporte”.

Campeonato que agita a Inglaterra há três anos, o BJJ British Open está de volta em 2011. O evento será em Birmingham, no Cocksmoor Leisure Centre, nos dias 2 e 3 de abril.

A championship that has been shaking things up in England for the last three years, the BJJ British Open will be back in 2011. The event will take place at Cocksmoor Leisure Centre in Birmingham on the 2nd and 3rd of April.

Organized by multiple-time champion Bráulio “Carcará” Estima and his brother Victor, the open tournament promises news for this year and should draw even more burly representatives of British Jiu-Jitsu.
