Brett Cooper will step in for an injured Doug Marshall to face middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko at Bellator 98 on Sept. 7, company officials announced on Monday.

Marshall suffered a broken toe in training and will be unfit to compete at next month’s card, which takes place at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncaseville, Conn.

“Brett Cooper is a warrior,” Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney wrote on Twitter following the announcement. “Lucky to have him stepping up Sept. 7.”

Cooper (19-8) last competed against the very man he’s replacing, Marshall, wherein the 26-year-old suffered a knockout loss to the now-injured fighter. The loss snapped Cooper’s six-fight win streak.

Shlemenko (47-7) earned the Belltor middleweight title in his most recent effort, a knockout of Maiquel Falcão at Bellator 88 last February. Former middleweight title holder Hector Lombard vacated the title when he signed a free agent deal with the UFC.

Bellator 88 also includes a co-main event between Joe Warren and Nick Kirk.

A edição 95 do Bellator encerrou a oitava temporada do evento com 12 combates, realizados nessa quinta-feira, 4 de abril, em Atlantic City, e transmitidos pelo Spike TV.

Frodo Khasbulaev e Mike Richman se enfrentaram pelo GP dos penas coevento principal da noite. Num combate repleto de trocação em três rounds, o russo foi mais contundente e levou a vitória por decisão unânime dos juízes. Ainda no card principal Doug Marshall sagrou-se campeão do GP dos médios ao se recuperar e nocautear Brett Cooper. Doug levava um atraso do adversário no ground and pound, mas ainda no primeiro round a luta voltou de pé, e foi quando ele aproveitou para conectar um balaço de direita que colocou Cooper para dormir. Bellator 89 went down in Charlotte, N.C. last night, and the biggest moment in the cage was the bantamweight title fight that capped off the evening.

Nova União teammates Dudu Dantas and Marcos Lôro locked horns with the divisional belt at stake. Showing good movement, Dudu saw the better of the action in the first round, landing jabs and low kicks. In the second round, the Dantas unleashed a high kick that dazed Lôro, before finishing with an uppercut and hammerfists to hang on to his Bellator belt.

Concerned with his friend, Dantas didn’t spend long celebrating before checking to see how Lôro was.

“I’m happy and sad at the same time, but that’s the way our sport goes,” he said following the knockout-win. “I’m the champion and had to defend my title.”

The highlight of the rest of the card was the first round of the middleweight GP. Former TUF contestant Dan Cramer outdid Brian Rogers by unanimous decision and goes through to take on Brett Cooper, who made it past France’s Norman Paraisy with a unanimous decision win of his own.

In the other bracket, Doug Marshall knocked out Sweden’s Andreas Spang, and in the next phase of the GP will take on Sultan Alieve, who beat Mikkel Parlo by unanimous decision.

O Bellator 89 rolou nessa quinta-feira, dia 15 de fevereiro, em Charlotte, nos Estados Unidos, e o grande momento no cercado cinza foi o duelo pelo cinturão do peso-galo. Os companheiros de Nova União Dudu Dantas e Marcos Lôro se digladiaram pelo título. Com boa movimentação, Dudu foi melhor no primeiro assalto, depois de acertar alguns jabs e chutes baixos. Já na segunda etapa, o pupilo de André Pederneiras foi com tudo e soltou um chute alto, que deixou Lôro grogue, na sequência um gancho sacramentou a manutenção da cinta dourada do Bellator.

Preocupado como amigo, Dudu quase nem comemorou e foi verificar como estava Marcos Lôro.”Estou feliz e triste ao mesmo tempo, mas é o nosso esporte. Sou o campeão e tive que defender meu título”, disse emocionado o dono do cinturão.

Friday night, Hollywood, Florida—the 80th iteration of the Bellator event served up some first-rate MMA.

In the evening’s main event, former featherweight champ Joe Warren returned to the bantamweight division with a win, outpointing Owen Evinger in the judges’ decision.

In the Bellator GP semifinals, even having Rodrigo Minotauro in his corner couldn’t save Vinícius “Spartan”. The Brazilian was knocked out by Russia’s Alexander Volkov in the second round. Now Volkov goes through to meet Richard Hale in the final.

Now in the featherweight GP, Wagnney Fabiano was unable to impose his Jiu-Jitsu on Rad Martinzez, coming out on the wrong end of the judges’ decision after three rounds.

Elsewhere on the card, Cosmo Alexandre not only put an end to Josh Quayhagen’s unbeaten record, the muay Thai world champion’s decision win served as revenge for the 2011 loss on his debut, at Bellator 52.

A noite de sexta-feira, em Hollywood, na Flórida, foi de MMA do bom no Bellator 80.

Na luta principal da noite, Joe Warren, ex-campeão dos penas, estreou com vitória na categoria galo. O wrestler superou Owen Evinger por decisão dos jurados.

Pela semifinal do GP dos pesados do Bellator, Vinícius “Spartan” teve Rodrigo Minotauro como córner, mas nem o auxílio de luxo salvou o lutador. O curitibano acabou nocauteado pelo russo Alexander Volkov no final do segundo round. Agora, Volkov vai enfrentar Richard Hale na final.

Já no peso-pena, Wagnney Fabiano não conseguiu impor seu Jiu-Jitsu contra Rad Martinez, e depois de três rounds as papeletas decretaram a vitória do americano por decisão unânime.

Nas outras lutas, Cosmo Alexandre matou dois coelhos com uma paulada só. O campeão de muay thai, além de quebrar a invencibilidade de Josh Quayhagen, por decisão unânime,  devolveu a derrota sofrida em 2011, em sua estreia, no Bellator 52.

O Bellator 80 rola nesta sexta-feira, em Hollywood, na Flórida, e o Jiu-Jitsu promete ser bem representado.

Com participações no ADCC e títulos de pano, Wagnney Fabiano está no card da edição. O cercado cinza traz nesta noite duas semifinais dos GPs, uma na categoria pena e outra no peso pesado.

Wagnney luta pela vaga na final dos pesos-penas, após montar e entornar o braço do armênio Akop Stepanyan, Ele enfrenta Rad Martinez hoje, e se vencer luta pelo título, em evento a ser marcado.

Bellator 80 goes down this Friday, in Hollywood, Florida, and Jiu-Jitsu looks to be well represented there.

A competitor with participations in the ADCC and holder of Gi-Jiu-Jitsu titles, Wagnney Fabiano is on the card for the show as a semifinalist in the featherweight GP—the heavyweight GP also features at the event.

Wagnney will be vying for a spot in the final, having mounted and caught the arm of Armenia’s Akop Stepanyan in his last match. Today he will be taking on Rad Martinez at a later date.

Now Vinícius Spartan, who also used an armbar to put him through to the next phase, will be taking on the dangerous Alexander Volkov, who beat former Strikeforce fighter Brett Rogers.

In the main event of the evening, Joe Warren, former champion of the featherweight division, will be dropping to bantamweight to square off with Owen Evinger, while Thai boxing world champion Cosmo Alexandre will take on Josh Quayhagen.

Patrício Pitbull segue invicto no MMA. O lutador, de Natal, estreou nesta quinta-feira no Bellator, que aconteceu em Connecticut. 

Esta foi a 13ª vitória de Patrício. O próximo adversário no GP de penas da organização será o brasileiro Wilson Reis. 

Em outra luta da noite, Brett Cooper, responsável pela única derrota do campeão mundial de Jiu-Jitsu Sérgio Moraes no MMA, acabou derrotado por decisão dividida. O algoz foi Steve Carl.

This Saturday afternoon, at São João Batista cemetery, in the Botafogo borough of Rio de Janeiro, the wake for Marco Jara will be held. The Jiu-Jitsu and MMA coach was murdered while being robbed as he traveled to the coastal town of Paraty, to celebrate Christmas. He will be buried at around 3pm and his wake will take place at chapel 5 of the cemetery.

The last time he worked in Brazil, in October, Jara accompanied his student, Brett Cooper, to victory at the October Jungle Fight event. Promoter of the event and friend of Jara’s, Wallid Ismail remarks on the occurrence:

“It is tragic. He was at my house last Monday, and was happy as could be to be going home to Brazil. This is madness. He was going to stay at the hostel of a friend in Paraty and was stoked. He was a great trainer and promoter of Jiu-Jitsu. He trained Cro Cop and taught such celebrities as Mike Tyson,” he says, from the United States.

Another to contact GRACIEMAG.com was Eugênio Tadeu, a master of luta livre and muay thai, who has trained Jara in the past.

“I knew Marcos Jara when he was a kid, living in Copacabana, when he came over with a group of teenagers from his neighborhood to practice muay thai at the academy where I taught, on Rua da Passagem street, in Botafogo. That was in 1984 or 1985. He had a knack for the martial arts and went on to do grappling. Then he became a man and conquered the world because he was a winner. Fatality interrupted this life and brilliant career. Friend and student, go in peace, may God be with you,” laments the master.

Faixa-preta de Jiu-Jitsu de Joe Moreira, que já treinou feras como Mirko Cro Cop, Marcos Adriano Albuquerque, conhecido como Marco Jara, foi mais uma vítima da violência, que dessa vez não poupou vítimas nem na véspera de natal. O treinador foi assassinado nesta quinta-feira. Já o companheiro de Jara, o americano Brent Garret, foi baleado na barriga e o quadro clínico é estável.

O treinador e o americano chegaram recentemente dos Estados Unidos. Ambos seguiam para Paraty, no Sul Fluminense do Rio de Janeiro, onde festejariam o Natal, quando pararam na Estrada da Pedra, próximo do conjunto Cesarão, em Santa Cruz, para pedir informações. Neste momento, foram abordados por dois homens armados. Segundo a polícia, Garret foi baleado ao tentar reagir, e jogado para fora do carro, enquanto os suspeitos fugiram no Land Rover com Jara.

O treinador foi encontrado horas mais tarde, morto, dentro do carro, num acesso da Favela do Sapo, em Senador Camará, na Zona Oeste.

Recentemente, Jara acompanhou no Jungle Fight, no Maracanãzinho, o lutador Brett Cooper, que venceu o brasileiro Sergio Moraes por nocaute.

Joe Moreira Jiu-Jitsu black belt Marcos Adriano Albuquerque, better known as Marco Jara, is yet another victim of violence in Brazil, which even on Christmas Eve spares no one. The coach was murdered this Thursday, while Jará’s friend, American Brent Garret, was shot in the stomach and is in stable condition.

The coach and the American recently arrived in Brazil from the United States. Both went on to a party in the Southern Rio de Janeiro town of Paraty, where they would have celebrated Christmas, when they stopped in Santa Cruz to ask directions. At that moment, they were approached by two armed men. According to the police, Garret was shot when he tried to react, and thrown from the car, while the suspects fled in Jará’s Land Rover.

The coach was found hours later, dead, in the car, at the entrance to Sapo Favela, in the Senador Camará area of Western Rio.

Recently, Jará accompanied Brett Cooper, who defeated Brazil’s Sergio Moraes, at Jungle Fight.
