Renzo’s RNC at One Championship: Reign of Kings.

Last month, Renzo Gracie showed his skills as he stepped into the cage at One Championship: Reign of Kings in Manila, Philippines.

With refined technique, he took down Yuki Kondo with an intelligent hook to later find a choke from the back. A detail that made the whole thing work happens to be an old trick of his.

“This position was taught five months prior to Brandon Vera at the airport in Manila,” said Luca Atalla, CEO of Graciemag and Gallerr. “What’s interesting is that at that point, Renzo had no idea he would be fighting in the Philippines — there was nothing set.

“Brandon is Filipino, and he was in the front row during Renzo’s fight. Besides the hook on the leg for the takedown, another important detail is the hand under the shoulder. The position is entirely connected. Renzo applies the technique on top so that Kondo will defend his face and he will have an easier time placing the hand under the shoulder. It’s a well-known technique, but the grip Renzo does is very tight, and it makes it impossible for Kondo to explode to get on all fours in search of escaping.”

In the following video, you can watch the decisive moments of Renzo’s fight, as well as the impromptu lesson he gave Brandon Vera. And to learn the lessons Renzo extracted from his latest MMA bout, you can click here.

A posição é toda conectada.

After a loosing first round where McSweeney almost landed a fight-ending high kick, Roger Gracie recovered on Rd2 to control the actions and tie the count.

Round 3 started out with James trying to be more active but a low kick to Roger’s leg hurt McSweeney’s right knee.

The Gracie took advantage of the moment and went for the kill with a straight kick to James’ stomach and a series of punches to finish the fight.

In the co-main evet of the evening, Brandon Vera went back to his native Philippines to quickly knock out Ukraine’s Igor Subora.

Hurt early in the first round, Subora tried to resist but eventually a series of punches and soccer kicks on the ground (allowed under One FC rules) ended the story.

In the main event, bantamweight champion Bibiano Fernandes proved once again why he is number one in the organization.

After a close first round, a double leg entry early on Rd2 turned into a back taking and a rear naked choke that left contender Dae Hwan Kim with no other option than to tap.

Asked if he would accept a superfight agains Shinia Aoki next, Bibiano said: “I’m here, I’m a One FC empolyee and I’m ready.”

“Teremos lutas impressionantes nesse dia. Os fãs vão adorar ver essas quatro feras em ação”, comentou Vitor Cui, organizador do evento.

Following two injuries and subsequent weight gain, Brandon Vera decided to come back to the heavyweight division where he initially made a name for himself.

According to Eric Del Fierro, Vera’s coach at Alliance in San Diego, the fighter sustained a hand injury in his August 2012 fight with “Shogun” Rua, then injured his knee months later while training. During the recovery from his knee injury, Vera’s weight went up to near 240 pounds, said the coach.

“After the Shogun fight, [Vera] hurt his hand,” Del Fierro told GRACIEMAG.com on Thursday afternoon. “So he was out … seems like at least two months. And right when he started coming back he went to Mike Fowler’s wedding I think in Hawaii. First day there he started rolling with Mike and something happened. I think he partially tore his MCL or something along the line. He had a knee injury, so that put him out another three months. Now he’s back training, but I think he got up to … 240 (pounds), if I had to guess.”

As reported by GRACIEMAG.com on Thursday morning, Vera confirmed via Twitter that he will return to heavyweight division in an Aug. 31 fight with Ben Rothwell at UFC 164.

The Rothwell fight will be Vera’s first at heavyweight in over five years. The last time he competed in the division was a 2008 loss to Fabricio Werdum, which came after falling short in an effort to win the heavyweight title from then-champion Tim Sylvia.

When in discussions about returning to the Octagon, Del Fierro said his fighter mentioned returning to heavyweight and asked for his opinion on the matter. The coach explained that the decision was ultimately up to Vera, and added that the fighter never liked cutting to the 205-pound light heavyweight limit.

“We started to talk about when he was going to get a fight booked and he just started mentioning that he wanted to consider staying at heavyweight and what [my thoughts were],” Del Fierro said. “Brandon never liked cutting to 205. He doesn’t like dieting, he doesn’t like cutting. So I said, ‘When it’s all said and done, it’s about what makes you happy. You performed at heavyweight [and] did good … it’s your choice, ultimately … You want to do heavyweight? Try it. What the hell.’ So he decided he wanted to book a fight at heavyweight.”

Vera started his UFC career at heavyweight and tallied a 12-2 overall MMA record before deciding to drop a weight class. Since moving to light heavyweight, he has seen different results, going 4-4 with a no-contest among lighter fighters.

When asked if the move back to heavyweight is a permanent one for the 35-year-old fighter, Del Fierro explained that the decision will be made once UFC 164 comes and goes.

“I think he’s always liked fighting at heavyweight,” said the coach. “I think we’ll make a decision after this fight and see how he feels.”

UFC 164 will take place at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee. No other matches for the card have been confirmed by the UFC at this time.

Once he was a heavyweight, and now he will be again.

Brandon Vera confirmed via Twitter on Thursday that he will fight Ben Rothwell at UFC 164 in a heavyweight fight. The bout will be Vera’s first bout in the weight class since dropping to light heavyweight in 2008.

Vera (12-6, 1 N.C.) once fought for the UFC heavyweight title, a 2007 tilt with then-champion Tim Sylvia. The challenger lost the bout and collected his first career loss in the effort. Since then, Vera lost one more fight at heavyweight and has seen mixed results in dropping to the light heavyweight division, going 4-4 with one no-contest in that span.

Rothwell (32-9) last fought at UFC on FX 7 in a losing effort to Gabriel Gonzaga. His most notable win is a knockout of former Ultimate Fighter finalist Brendab Schaub at UFC 145, but the fighter has only gone 2-3 since coming to the UFC in 2009.

UFC 164 takes place on Aug. 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, and rumored appearances on the card by Alistair Overeem and Diego Sanchez have been reported by other outlets.

O evento trazia a final do reality show “The Ultimate Fighter Brasil”, transmitido semanalmente na TV aberta e acompanhado pelo povão. Os lutadores Rony Jason, Cezar Mutante, Serginho Moraes, Tiago Bodão, Hugo Wolverine, Daniel Sarafian e Francisco Massaranduba caíram no gosto popular.

Rodrigo Minotauro prepara o armlock no UFC Rio 3.

Henderson ainda defendeu o suado título contra Nate Diaz no UFC on Fox 5, solidificando seu posto.

Fedor Emelianenko. Foto: Esther Lin/STRIKEFORCE

Adeus a Fedor

Do Svidaniya, Camarada Emelianenko.

Feliz 2013
