The Bellator promotion set up shop in the state of Louisiana, USA, to put on its 52nd event, and the two Brazilians on the card had polar-opposite experiences.

Making his MMA debut, Thai boxing world champion Cosmo Alexandre took on Josh Quayhagen but, even putting his striking skills to use, was unable to sway the judges, two of whom felt Quayhagen deserved the nod.

Now the other Brazilian, Junior PQD, made quick work of Brian Goldsby, sinking an arm-triangle for the finish while still in the first round.

In the heavyweight GP, Ron Spark, Eric Prindle, Blagoi Ivanov and Mike Hayes move through to the next stage of the tournament.

A edição 52 do Bellator aportou em Lousiana, Estados Unidos. Dois brasileiros estiveram em ação no estado do açúcar, e a noite foi doce para quem apostou na luta de chão.

Estreando no MMA, o campeão mundial de muay yhai Cosmo Alexandre encarou Josh Quayhagen, e até tentou colocar sua experiência na arte tailandesa no cercado cinza, mas dois do três jurados acharam que o americano foi o melhor nas três parciais.

Já a fera Junior PQD só precisou do primeiro assalto para encaixar um triângulo de mão em Brian Goldsby e encerrar o duelo.

No GP dos pesados Ron Spark, Eric Prindle, Blagoi Ivanov e Mike Hayes avançaram para as semifinais do torneio.

Cosmo Alexandre, 29 anos, vai fazer enfim sua estreia no MMA neste sábado, dia 1 de outubro, pelo Bellator 52, informa Junior Samurai. O campeão mundial de muay thai, modalidade onde tem 40 vitórias, terá pela frente Josh Quayhagen, que também faz sua primeira luta na organização.

Há cerca de uma década disputando torneios na arte tailandesa, Cosmo está atualmente nos Estados Unidos, onde se preparou para a primeira experiência no MMA. O casca-grossa treinou ao lado de feras como Rashad Evans e Gesias Cavalcante na Flórida, além de afiar o chão em Nova York com o faixa-preta Gene Simco.

Já Thiago Santos e Junior PQD completam o escrete verde-amarelo no cercado cinza, enfrentando o duro búlgaro Blagoy Ivanov (aquele mesmo que derrotou Fedor no sambô) e o americano Brian Goldsby, respectivamente.

Cosmo Alexandre, 29, will finally make his MMA debut, this Saturday, October 1, at Bellator 52, according to our collaborator Junior Samurai. The Thai boxing world champion, holding a record of 40 wins, will face off with Josh Quayhagen, who will be making his promotional debut as well.

With nearly a decade of experience competing at Thai boxing tournaments, Cosmo is currently in the United States, where he did his preparations for his maiden MMA outing, training with the likes of Rashad Evans and Gesias Cavalcante in Florida before heading to New York to polish up his ground game with black belt Gene Simco.

Also on the card for the event is Bulgaria’s Blagoy Ivanov, who once beat Fedor Emelianenko at the sambo world championship. Ivanov will be facing Brazil’s Thiago Santos.

Thiago Santos, also known as Big Monster, has been around the block in gentle art competitions. At the last one, the Copa Carlson Gracie cup, he was the big winner on the day. In MMA, the black belt trained by Cesar Casquinha at Top Brother academy has eight wins and just one loss on his ledger; he is also a former champion of Rio Heroes, where he had three fights in one night, with no gloves or time limits.

Now, Thiago is getting ready to make his Bellator debut, on October 10 against Alexander Ivanov, who is best known for having beaten Fedor Emelianenko at a sambo competition.

“The fight is part of the Bellator heavyweight GP, which will take place in three stages. The champion will get a shot at the divisional title,” Big Monster told GRACIEMAG.com.

Against the sambo specialist Thiago doesn’t want to break from the characteristics that have earned him wins over the likes of world champion Bernardo Faria and others in gentle art competition.

“I’m going to try and submit him, use my Jiu-Jitsu. He’s not good when his back is on the ground; I’m going to twist him up,” he forewarns.

Thiago Santos, também conhecido como Big Monster, é visto em diversas competições da arte suave. Na última delas, venceu a Copa Carlson Gracie, válida pelo Estadual do Rio. No MMA, o faixa-preta treinado por Cesar Casquinha, na Top Brother, conta com oito vitórias e apenas uma derrota, ex-campeão do Rio Heroes, onde fazia três lutas no mesmo evento, sem luvas ou tempo.

Agora, Thiago se prepara para estrear no Bellator, no dia 10 de outubro, contra Blagoy Alexandre Ivanov, conhecido por ter derrotado Fedor Emelianenko numa competição de sambô.

“Essa luta vale pelo GP de pesados do Bellator, que vai ser disputado em três fases. O campeão poderá disputar o cinturão”, comenta Big Monster ao GRACIEMAG.com.

Contra o especialista em sambô, Thiago não quer abandonar as características que já lhe renderam, na arte suave, triunfos sobre feras como o campeão mundial Bernardo Faria, entre outros.

“Vou tentar finalizar, usar o meu Jiu-Jitsu. Ele não é bom de costas no chão, vou para apertar ele”, adianta.

For Jiu-Jitsu and MMA fans, Saturday night isn’t just about Shogun and Jon Jones. The 37th installment of Bellator FC will feature Wilson Reis (11w, 2l) against Zac George, and the winner remains in the running in the promotion’s featherweight tournament.

The fight, to be held in Concho, Oklahoma, will be broadcast starting 7 pm local time on MTV2, a channel that has entered a partnership with Bellator to broadcast events.

Besides the broadcast to MTV’s young viewership, another interesting hand Bellator is playing is hiring sambo ace Blagoy Ivanov, the Bulgarian who beat Fedor Emelianenko in the style in Russia.

Undefeated in MMA with three wins (one by submission), Ivanov has however been submitted by Jiu-Jitsu’s own Alexandre Souza, at the 2010 World Pro, in Abu Dhabi.

Além da transmissão para o público jovem da MTV, outra cartada interessante do Bellator foi a contratação do craque do sambo Blagoy Ivanov, búlgaro que já derrotou Fedor Emelianenko nos tapetes russos.

Invicto no MMA com três vitórias, uma por finalização, Ivanov porém já foi finalizado pelo nosso Alexandre Souza em Abu Dhabi, no World Pro de Jiu-Jitsu 2010.

Além de Braulio Estima e o atual campeão Tarsis Humphreys, o convite também foi feito a Celsinho Venicius, Gabriel Vella, Alexandre Souza, Gustavo Campos, Bruno Frazatto e o búlgaro Blagoy Ivanov.

Ivanov é o faixa-preta de sambo que derrotou o astro Fedor Emelianenko no Mundial da modalidade, em 2008.

Outro convidado foi Rubens Charles Cobrinha, que luta o Pan uma semana antes e não se sabe se vai poder ir.
