Medals for the 2012 Big Apple Open

GMA members Vitor Shaolin and Mario Guerrero invite all to the 2012 Big Apple Open.

It is scheduled next May 19th.

If you want to take part in it you have to hurry.

There are only 50 spots left for enrollment.

This year they will have three separate brown belt divisions with a prize money pay out to winners of each division, as well as Prize Gis to winners of each absolute division!

An idea that has been a year ago four months in the making, this was the very first tournament promoted by Vitor Shaolin, Jen Sung and Mario Guerrero. The date was carefully planned so as to not interfere but to help other competitors competing at other tournaments around the globe. “We wanted to just have a good Jiu-Jitsu tournament in New York. No names associated. We just wanted to host it,” explains Sung.

Renzo Gracie was also present and was honored with a plaque delivered to him by Shaolin. “I came here and didn’t know anybody. Renzo said, ‘If you need anything, give me a call’, and I called him a number of times,” Shaolin went on to thank Renzo for all the help given to Jiu-Jitsu in New York as a whole.

GMA members Jen Sung and Vitor Shaolin released the schedule.

They also revealed that 10 black belts have signed in for the event, which is also open for all belts.

“We’re producing the Big Apple Jiu-Jitsu Open on the coming 14th of May in Manhattan,” says Jen. “Our hope is that it will become a major annual event, to help further the art in New York along with the NY Open and Long Island Pride.”

The open tournament will offer 500 dollars as a prize and Renzo Gracie will receive the Honor of Achievement Award trophy, for his efforts in developing Jiu-Jitsu in the city of New York.
